With what was shown when Philbin and Ireland were talking about Gates it seems that some here were incorrect in assuming that Ireland calls all the shots without talking to his coaches. In fact, it seems like Ireland wanted to keep Gates, but when Philbin said let him go he was let go. This tells me that Philbin is running the show and Ireland, even though he does get final say, is allowing his new HC to build the team he wants to coach. Also, a little off topic, but is seems some were wrong too about Hard Knocks. "Although the teams that do Hard Knocks have the authority to tell the producers of the show not to air certain footage from practices and meetings, Philbin said he tried to be open." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ns-go-3-13-it-wont-be-because-of-hard-knocks/
Whoever made the decision to do Chad a solid and offer him a Rocky2-like montage on the beach must be expecting something back from the agent in return down the line....what a waste of tape and apology that was out of place IMO. (they might as well have just added to the closed caption update like they did for Garrard as of 1pm today being cut, and added "Chad Johnson worked out on a beach, and MMA gym, and said a new team would get a real chad", But then again, I have never been a huge fan of HK style and allowing a team to be filmed behind the scenes, etc like this for upcoming season and airing cuts, coaches meeting and comments about players, etc. I prefer post after the fact recap of season style footage that NFL films does, especially for SB champs....thats frankly the only time I want to see the next film on the Miami Dolphins be.
Fire Chad on TV - "That was cold blooded the way the Dolphins portrayed Chad on National Television!" Give Chad a positive spot on TV - "Dolphins did too much trying to pump Chad up on National Television!" At this point...it really doesn't matter. Can't win for losing in Davie.
Any one catch Philbin in Hard Knocks saying something about hopefully in December the team starts to put things together? Teams need to be coming along at that point in the season but if it takes that long to start getting wins the season is over already.
His statement was that come Dec and Jan he is more concerned that the team is playing well then compared to Sept and Oct. I would think most coaches have that mindset..helps them really gauge what they have come offseason, and of course, hope they make a run at the top of their game for playoffs.
Tell me if I am crazy here.... With Chad, I got the feeling that Hard Knocks thought it would be appropriate to make Chad look good for the other 32 teams. It is almost like saying "We think Miami overreacted in firing him and we want to give him a positive puff segment" I think the Dolphins have a say as to what goes in or out on filming content as related TO THE TEAM ie plays, meetings, injuries etc.... In the end I don't think HK got permission nor did they seek it for Miami on Chad's segment there...it was almost like they didn't agree with the organization on that particular move because why else show it?? It has NOTHING to do with this team, if anything it brings up something Miami wants to move forward from.... Any thoughts?
I don't think HK cares one way or another if Chad plays again. I think they were looking for ratings. Chad provides that. I also don't think the Dolphins had a say in that little clip.
They are looking for ratings on the last show of the series? I think that horse has left the barn though.....it isnt like they put it out there...Chad Johnson interview tonight on series finale...yes we knew about it, because we are football geeks but to the avg person who makes up the ratings as a whole it went largely unreported....
I think it was more to add closure to Chad's story. Just because he was cut doesn't mean he wasn't part of the Dolphins Training Camp. Him being a star in the NFL, it was only fitting for them to add some closure to his story. I don't understand why as soon as a player is cut he's immediately voted off the island and can no longer get camera time. Though cut, he's still a part of the comprehensive Dolphins Training Camp which is the premise of the entire show. It's not Survivor: Davie.
Perhaps, but why show it? Why him, and not say T.O., or Plaxico? None of these players have anything to do with the team right?
Football geeks (and maybe their wives) are the only people watching the show. The show will be done again next year and anything that makes this show more interesting will inturn draw more viewers for next season. Hell, you may be right, but I just don't see the producers giving two ****s about Chad other than what he can do for their ratings.
Yes and agree to a point..however I certainly think it is end game in Philbin's mind....I think Philbin would look at you sideways if you said that he is still a part of the Camp as a whole....
I would hope so. He's a coach and has a job to do. HK for us is entertainment and holding our hand and closing out stories gracefully and giving us a "feel good" story etc. is good for tv/ratings. Pointless from a football standpoint, yes. But, from an entertainment standpoint which is what HK is about, I would think it lends some value to the end product.
First of all, last show or not, ratings are important. Secondly, CJ is sort of the mascot for HK in a lot of ways. He's been on their multiple times and this could very well have been the last time they show him. Hell for all you know they got lots of requests from viewers to do a follow up on CJ. I thinks its silly that first thing one goes to is a conspiracy, where HBO is now against the Dolphins too.
I agree. Hell, they showed Aaiuti after he was cut and picked up by the Jets. He had nothing to do with the Dolphins at that point anymore either. Did the producers of HK not agree with that decision too? lol
And not to pick on you too much Yank, but this is precisely why I can't take you doom and gloomers seriously. The depth with which your hate of Ireland and disappointment in the past decade or two has literally turned you all into lunatics who see things like, Philbin's palm facing up while he looks east and speaks to a lineman and that will somehow make him lose the team and his job and send the team and universe into a spiraling vortex so deep we have to move the team to Toronto to get out of it. For crying out loud, I'm treated like i have three heads and one of them is oozing toxic puss just because I said the team is not gonna be good, but just average.
The negative reaction to last night's Chad Johnson segment by Dolphins fans is so disappointing. It really shows how little they understand about what Hard Knocks is and isn't. Hard Knocks is not a show produced FOR Dolphins fans. It is not a training camp report on ESPN. It is not The Miami Dolphins show. It is not a documentary, interested in exposing the truth. It is a reality TV show about characters. Period.
I don't have any strong opinions on the finale other than that, for me, it was very anticlimactic. I guess that probably has more to do with the nature of training camp winding down and an almost meaningless 4th preseason game.
I found it funny the end of the show, when players&coaches talked about their moms and the swearing, escpeially Sherman
Because Chad Johnson lost his job on Hard Knocks. I seen it as just showing how no teams have yet to bring him aboard, showing he still trains hard and wants it but it might never come again.
Toxic "puss"? I got into something like that when I was younger and really drunk. Thankfully I tested negative. (I think you meant pus...)
Other silly notes: seeing Marlon Moore let the ball bounce against the shoulderpad.... not good It was funny/strange how Coyle was sitting on a bench, after the game, head low, naked feet, thinking something I liked Philbin, if sometimes you can doubt his communications skills in some meeting, he seems always very strong and confident in the locker room Root was funny, but he lost points on 2 occasions: ignoring ther coach in the room while he is talking to you and not knowing Richard Dent...c'mon dude! Joking of course, it is impossible not to feel bad for them, when they are cut (and honestly, I liked Ireland, not too detached, but straight with the players, encouraging about their future etc.... he seemed much more human and I guess it is not a easy task to tell someone he is fired) ah, and les Brown and his shirts ps- but at the end Tannehill asked to Gerrad if he has a cardiologist for checking is prostate?!? I heard wrong, I hope
You aren't picking on me, or talking down to me.....the day I actually give a sh$t what people think they do to me on a message board to prove their point just wont happen, however if you catch joy from it D, please pick on me.... Now to reality....which is what I base my judgement from on this team, I am not a doom and gloom type of guy, just reality based.....it speaks for itself...
Enjoyed the series. Still really pissed we didn't get to see the prank the players were raving about.
I am really kind of ripped about Wake...even last night, they put Chad Johnson having beach time on there, but not once did we see anything from Wake.....nothing.... Not like he is one of the most dominate pass rushers in the league or anything...
You got to be ****ing kidding me. Characters period. Chad Johnson was a character on Hard Knocks. If they didn't have the 3 minutes on him, the show would have run 3 minutes shorter. They would not have used that time to feed Dolphin fans what they wanted. Hard Knocks is not a show produced FOR Dolphins fans. It is not a training camp report on ESPN. It is not The Miami Dolphins show. It is not a documentary, interested in exposing the truth. It is a reality TV show about characters. Period. Whine to FinsTV if you want to see a piece on Cameron Wake.
yeah right....if not for chad, there would have been no footage left to fill these 3 minutes....gotta be ****ing kidding me too
The point he was making isn't that there wasn't footage, but that there probably wasn't anything compelling to the non-Dolphin fan viewer.
You know how hog Chad Johnson loves to be in the spotlight. Remember when he did the show while with the Bengals?!
The point was they weren't just filling time or cutting out "better" content to include Chad Johnson. Dolphin fans complaining about the content of Hard Knocks is like someone from New Jersey complaining how on "The Jersey Shore" they focus too much on Snooki and not enough on the tourism business on the Jersey shore.
