As a rookie: 09/06/98 21 for 37, 302 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, 58.6 QB rating 09/13/98 21 for 33, 188 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, 51.1 QB rating 09/20/98 20 for 44, 193 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 39.3 QB rating 09/27/98 19 for 32, 309 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, 63.2 QB rating 10/04/98 12 for 23, 137 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 66.8 QB rating 10/11/98 20 for 41, 235 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 62.6 QB rating Overall: 113 for 120, 1364 yards, 6 TD, 14 INTs, 55.7 QB rating And the rest is history.
Tannehil does not have the pedigree of Manning or Luck. The jury will be out on him for a good part of the year.
Ryan Leaf, first 6 games: 9/6/98 16-31, 192 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT, 54.8 rating 9/13/98 13-24, 179 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 78.3 rating 9/20/98 1-15, 4 yds, 0 TD, 2 INT, 0.0 rating 9/27/98 15-34, 193 yds, 0 TD, 4 INT, 22.9 rating 10/4/98 12-23, 160 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 56.4 rating 10/11/98 7-18, 78 yds, 0 TD, 3 INT, 13.0 rating ....and the rest is history. Just saying, that proves nothing. He can go either way.... let's hope he goes the way of Manning.
And that's the point, that this one game -- and perhaps the next five, or even the next 15 -- proves nothing.
True but I don't expect him to be Peyton and the stats don't always tell the whole story. If someone through out RGIII's stats today it wouldn't mean anything to me. There was some good and some bad in the game but I think we will be ok with RT at the QB position. The team simply lacks playmakers and solid talent at too many positions
Patience. One game is too soon. Let's give the coaching staff and rookies a full season. Before jumping on or off any bandwagons.
They both started their careers on garbage teams. One had the pedigree and FO to improve the pieces around him, the other, uh, didn't. Anyway, I'm just irritated because the team last year was 6-10 and we got rid of one of our two offensive playmakers. It's like Ireland decided that he wanted to make things as difficult as possible for Tannehill to succeed.
Yes, Ireland is intentionally sabotaging the team so that he can get fired and not have a job any longer.
Except for some people on the boards who will be calling for his head at any point for any reason whatsoever!
I don't think he's sabotaging the team, but I think he's building the team in his image even if it's to the team's detriment. It wouldn't be the first time a front office guy booted out effective players merely because they weren't "his" guys.
Too early to be concerned about Tannehill. Im worried about the rest of the team. Talent-wise I'm seeing a LT, RB, C, a slot receiver, maybe a QB, and a couple of guys along the defensive line... outside of that we are basically devoid of talent. I REALLY need a new GM to take advantage of our cap room and draft pick stockpile. I mean, REALLY.
I assume you are trying to prove some kind of point here. If the point is that Manning had a tough rookie season and eventually became one of the best QB's in NFL history, great. If you are trying to state that Tannehill is the next Manning, I think it is time you put down the beer bottle and hit the sack for the night. Tannehill has a chance of becoming a good QB in the NFL, but I don't see him ever being close to being a Peyton Manning. At this point, I will be happy if he can get to the level of Matt Ryan. The QB the Dolphins should have drafted in 2008.
I understand trying two make the point that rookies struggle. I mean Stafford threw three picks today too and looked bad despite coming off a 5,000 yard season. It's one game and it was a game against an elite level team.
Peyton Manning has been brought up for every rookie QB to suck the last 8 years or so. If Tannehill still sucks next year and the year after, expect Drew Brees arguments to follow.
Well the less than 1% chance to ever happen has happened with Peyton's first snap in the game tonight.
I'm trying to state he's the next Manning, because any QB who starts off his career very poorly for six games is going to be the next Manning. Now if we can only get Tannehill to perform poorly for five more, we're home free.
With the offensive personnel he has around him right now, I don't think that him performing poorly over the next five games will be a problem. In fact he just might manage to perform poorly for the next 15 games, if something isn't done to improve the play of the OL and the receivers on this team. The one thing both Manning in his rookie season and Tannehill this season have in common is that the offensive players around them just aren't very good. Other than that, there really isn't isn't other comparison I see from these two, except that they both started as rookies in the NFL in their very first NFL game.
when Peyton was a rookie, he had Marvin Harrison to throw to. The next year he had edgeren James to help him out.and Reggie Wayne the next year. If our idiot GM doesnt get playmakers around Tannehill, he just may turn into Ryan leaf.
Well guess what? In Manning's rookie season, the Colts were 3-13. The next season they were 13-3. According to your position and that of several others, they must've completely overhauled their roster in that one offseason.
Why does everybody bring up Peyton when each of our new Qbs suck ***. It's like clockwork. Hennehill sucked ***. Staring down receivers makes balls easy to bat doown (or in todays ccase up)
Well, I see the Little Mary Sunshine Should Have Been Drawn and Quartered Griping and Complaining Symposium is ready to urinate in all the cheerio boxes of the world... as usual....... After one game. I seriously wonder if they would be happy if Tebow nuked the stadium...
Whats the head scratch for? Im not a homer, but im not so ignorant as to think one game is enough to judge RT. Is that a little more clear?
Maybe peyton manning became PEYTON MANNING and they had used number one picks on Marvin Harrison , Marshall Faulk and Edgerrin James.
Well why don't you go take a look and compare what they did to what's left to be done with this roster? Nobody who has this "we have no talent" opinion wants to do any research to support it.
you think this team is full of talented players? Please enlighten us all as to Who is oozing talent on this team. Minus a handful of players, this team needs a complete overhaul.
What I think is that this team, other than its rookie QB, isn't significantly less talented than the average team in the NFL, which IMO means it's the successful development of that QB away from being a playoff team.
With respect , it was never "no talent" and talent is not of equal value is it? I did ask where our drafted talent produced at a substantially higher value than where it was selected , you don't seem to think that is valid for some reason. Brian Hartline has talent , is it equal to Mike Wallace or Antonio Brown? Does their respective talents influence wins and losses to the same degrees? Enough talent to win multiple playoff games. I see a disparity and you don't , there is talent to be sure , but I don't see the level of talent as being sufficient to count on a Super Bowl run , and from Ireland's track record I don't see he will draft as Indianapolis did in the previous post to get bonafide playmakers. Maybe he will , really maybe he will , he hasn't as of yet. That is why I have said AFTER this season if his players have not produced well enough I would not entrust him moving forward with the picks we have and the cap room. You would , fair enough , at some point for me if the production isn't there and you don't realistically envision it to change , then you make a change. His players have 15 more games to show everyone , me included that he has made the correct draft selections.
Sorry Buddy but thats simply not the case.We have two receivers that are decent, the rest wouldnt make any other teams rosters. Our o-line isnt very good at all and our secondary is a joke. This team is a long way from a playoff team
You can't be serious. The talent level in this team is probably worst in the league. Particularly the offense which is a total abortion.
I keep hearing these things, over and over and over, and nobody ever supports it with anything objective.
