Jake Long = Richmond Webb (the best at what they do) Legeduu Naanee = Ernest Wilford (complete and utter FA busts) Ryan Tannehill = David Woodley (athletic QBs who have what it takes to take us to the Super Bowl...I hope!) Mike Pouncey = Dwight Stephenson (the best at what they do) John Jerry = Jamie Nails (talented fat guys who are too fat) Davone Bess = Wes Welker (catch anything. always open) Daniel Thomas = Sammie Smith (big plodders who suck and fumble) Cameron Wake = Jeff Cross (quarterback killing beasts) Koa Misi = Morlon Greenwood (invisible except for one or two games a year) Brandon Fields = Reggie Roby (booming punts without a care for placement)
Yes, I meant Cross. Although an argument could be made for Armstrong, sure. I just remember Jeff Cross was a physical specimen, as is Cam Wake. Not to say Armstrong was a slouch.
Sorry, not even close...maybe in 10 yrs we'll know about Pouncey. He's good, but not Stephenson good. Even in his first year, Stephenson was head and shoulders the best in the business... I give Tanny a leg up on Woodley...if you want to compare, Woodley=Fiedler, imo...but I think Tanny is going to be better than that... I also think Long is better than Webb was. Webb was very, very good but Long just might be a tad better at this point... I'd also give Thomas a bit more time to develop before I compared him to Smith... Smith couldn't get anything in his game right, at least Thomas has some potential...
Pouncey is pretty damn good. If he plays at the level he did yesterday the rest of the year he will be easily the best in the game at his position. I'd disagree with Fields...I think he has good ball placement when it's needed. He can take a lot off of kicks and down them inside the 20.
He did have that one good season out of 3, admittedly. He definitely didnt live up to his contract though.
The year the Dolphins went to the SB with David Woodley as the teams QB, was probably the greatest coaching job Don Shula ever did. While the 1982 team did have a lot of talented players on the roster. Woodley was merely a very mediocre QB, who happened to have one decent year as a starting QB in the NFL. Fortunately that one decent year was 1982. Shula obviously knew that Woodley was not the long term answer at the QB position. That is why he decided to draft Dan Marino in the first round of the 1983 draft. As a Dolphin fan, I appreciate what Woodley did during the 1982 season, but I certainly hope that Tannehill ends up having a much better career in the NFL than Woodley did.
Ernest Wilford, Gibril Wilson, and Justin Smiley, Jake Grove... Oh wait, those guys were complete hacks and exposed a total lack of talent evaluation skill by our fearless leaders.
I would say Devon Bess, Cameron Wake, and Dan Carpenter, certainly lived up to their initial contracts. I can't think of any other player signed as a free agent since 2008.
Reggie wasn't a free agent. The Dolphins traded for him. I will admit though, this is one trade which has certainly benefited the Dolphins, so far.
Who does Incognito equal? Might have to leave this one to Mr C... But we had a couple of tackles in the 80's that were "dirty"... having problems remembering their names. I smoked too much weed as a teenager.
a FA who really delivered must be the first official FA ever after the Plan B Free Agency was taken away, i still remember watching a MNF Game and the announcement was made that the dolphins had signed Keith Jackson
Daniel Thomas ran the ball 3 times for 11 yards and a fumble. Don't know what game you were watching.
Oh yeah, well YOU'RE stupid! Seriously though, the guy is middling at best. Take away the fumble and he still carried the ball 3 times for 11 yards.
And...to further this post, he was mediocre in the first half of games and just bad in the second half. Thats why Strock was the "relief pitcher" in the second half and the nic name WoodStrock came about.
Um... Chad Pennington. Randy Starks. Matt Moore. Kevin Burnett. Richie Incognito. Lousaka Polite. Tony McDaniel. Jason Taylor X 2. Jason Ferguson. Marcus Thigpen.
Misi is finally playing a position that suits his skill set. He'll most likely end up at MLB when all is said and done.
Smith fumbled the ball 17 times in three seasons. Look at the '91 season. Were you alive then. Sammie was dreadful hanging on to the football. DT has three fumbles in his short career. Bad comparison.
Yeah Thomas had 4 touches for 43 yards. He also is much quicker than last year and more decisive. I don't understand why so many of you dislike him. It boggles my mind.
I hope you are OH SOO wrong about this comparison, Woodley may have had the talent but he definitely did not have the mental make up for the NFL. he had no drive.
Best FA signing to me was Brock Marion. Best single season reclamation project was Jamie Nails who gave us the best season at guard we had seen in at least 20 years. Best trades would probably be Trace Armstrong, Reggie Bush and Anthony Fasano based on what we paid and what we got. Best undrafted FA I would give to Adewale Ogunleye. I am only going back as far as Free Agency started since things changed drastically then.
Oh and Thomas takes way too much flack. He had 2 nice plays out of his 4 touches. Can't fault him for a fumble on a concussion.
Non-Dolphin obviously, but the NFL QB that Tannehill reminds me the most of so far watching the preseason and first game is Tony Romo. And I dont say that as an insult. I know he gets a lot of hate from fans.
