Blue Jays manager John Farrell would be an excellent hire for the Red Sox, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com writes. The Red Sox tried to acquire Farrell from Toronto twice last offseason, including once after the Blue Jays made it clear that Farrell was off-limits to teams seeking managers, Bradford reports. Red Sox pitchers who worked with Farrell in Boston have a deep respect for their former coach based on both friendship and fear, Bradford adds.

Gammons speculated that Farrell, Brad Ausmus or Sandy Alomar have good shots to be the next manager.

Again according to Gammons, the Sox FO really liked Alomar and thought he did a great job in his interview but they felt like they needed someone with more experience. I wonder if that will change after seeing the chaos with Valentine and also seeing how Ventura and Matheney have done with little experience in Chicago and St. Louis.

Yeah, agree on who is listed (Carpenter @ #20) and what that means really....but still by their count 15 of the 20 will impact no later than 2014. Saw the Yanks and they list 13 of the 20 to do similar.

Some names Gammons speculated as to being possible "Beltre type" targets included Justin Morneau and Logan Morrison. I do wonder if the Sox would make a run at Victor Martinez as their 1B. I think he has 1 or 2 years left on his deal, if the Sox eat 60 or 70% of the money they might not even have to give up a good prospect for him, assuming he's healed up.

It's players like that that the Sox can afford to make a run at and frankly that's who they should target. Guys signed for 1 or 2 years max that they can pick up that won't cost them much if anything at all.

The Sox need to fill holes at 1B, COF and possibly SS as well as getting another SP or two.

Edwin Jackson has always been a good fill in 1 yr guy.....I really don't see the Yankees letting Kuroda walk however....yeah they have been saying V-Mart around here too...

Logan Morrison I dont think you want any part of.....just my IMO..

I think Morrison would do well in the Boston market to be honest with you. I think he's one of the players that would love the attention. Plus I think being a LHH he might do well at Fenway.

Please, there's no teasing in the universe that could be as bad as actually having to watch the Red Sox play baseball these days, since August really. If this is what it's like being a Royal/Pirate fan the last 20 years I truly feel terrible for those fan bases. I'm complaining about a bad 15 or so months....

David Ortiz will hit free agency this offseason and he’s looking for a multiyear deal. Ortiz recently shared his thoughts on the Red Sox and his upcoming appearance on the free agent market with Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.

    Here are some highlights:

    • Ortiz said he wants to re-sign in Boston, but explained that he expects the Red Sox to win. “We have two wild cards, and we're not even in it,” he said. “You can't let that happen." The team’s current situation is “disgusting” in Ortiz’s view.

The owners of the Red Sox are considering selling the team and have quietly started shopping it to possible buyers, Charlie Gasparino of the FOX Business Network reports. The Red Sox would be seeking $1.3 billion for the team, according to Gasparino’s sources.

I guess the author of the "Red Sox might be for sale" story was on WEEI, according to people I follow on Twitter the interview didn't come off well and the author didn't seem to have a lot of credibility. Who knows though.

Somehow I don't believe that the Red Sox, Fenway, and NESN is worth $700 million less than the Dodgers just sold for.

Which is why he should have been fired already. All Valentine is trying to do is win baseball games, even if it's at the expense of the future of the organization. The whole purpose of the team right now should be giving major league at bats to players the FO wants to see if they can help for next year's club. It makes zero sense that Kalish, Iglesias and Lavarnway aren't playing everyday, especially with guys like Cirico and Podsednik are getting their at bats. Again Valentine just wants to win baseball games because W/L record is important to him, it's the complete opposite of what the team wants or needs right now. If you're Ben Cherington don't you have to order Valentine to play these guys and not to mess with their possible development?

As a depth guy who bounces between Triple A and the big leagues when a guy gets hurt each year, no he's fine. But not enough to have him play every freaking day. He's a 26 year old that holds a career minor league line of .272/.299/.357/.656 in over 3,000 plate appearances. He is what he is. He's a back up.

Check out his numbers against the rest of the league. They're pretty bad. His overall numbers look decent because he's hitting like .400 against the Yankees. Again random luck there.

Yeah I'm a bit bitter they won last night, it's always bittersweet when they do now. But man I think Joe Maddon is one of the best managers in baseball but he had an awful night yesterday. Intentionally walking Pedro to pitch to Ellsbury?

Plus something that's interesting that doesn't get a lot of play is that TB seems to always have one or two dugout "fights" each year. I think it would be a bigger deal if they were a big market team and/or not playing well. Imagine if that happened in Boston right now or last week in New York when the Yankees were fading?

I doubt it. His name got played up big time last year (not just with the Sox but other markets too) and he interviewed for the spot but they wasn't much buzz afterwards. I wonder if he bombed the interviews or just wasn't what the Sox and other teams were looking for. I hear his name being mentioned a lot in Houston, so that's a possible. It's hard to really judge guys who haven't been managers without hearing what their thoughts are on certain in game situations and how to handle the players etc.

And it's now safe to say Tampa Bay is officially done. That offense is just bad. They really need to do something about it next year, especially if they can't (and probably won't) re-sign BJ Upton. I don't think any of their close minor league players are impact bats either. This could be the start of a rebuilding phase in TB. Either way TB will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason. I expect them to make some trades.
