I wanted to start a discussion with the POSITIVE Dolphins fans. You know, the ones who DON'T want to trade every players on the team, announce players are busts after one game and want to fire the head coach after one game. So feel free to post if you are NOT that type of fan. OK, I for one am excited about Philbin. How long has it been since we had a coach who actually played to win? I saw some great things in the Houston game, and then some things that need work. I like Tannehill, love the arm strength, I am hoping that as a team they can correct the tipped ball thing. I don't think our WRs are as bad as people make them out. Remember, Armstrong and Hartline have been with the team 2 weeks. It's going to take a little more time for them to gel. That being said, I want to see what Rishard Matthews can do in a game. During the preseason he made some really nice catches, I loved his effort. Remember, Marques Colston was a 7th rounder, so you can find diamonds in the rough late in the draft. The defense looked solid for the most part against a top 5 team. Starks and Soliai made things rough on Foster. I am not in love with our secondary yet. I think the defense alone can win us some games this year. I need to see more out of Dansby and Burnett though. I think they will step up this week. OK, bring on the Raiders!
I agree on Matthews. Its more then just Colston who was a late round pick...theres a wr on almost every other team who was undrafted or a late rounder (6th or 7th). Not all are Colston's caliber or even starters but they can be found. Victor Cruz was a UDFA. Kevin Olgetree and Miles Austin came out of nowhere a late rounders. Pierre Garcon. Donald Driver. Stevie Johnson, David Nelson, Davone Bess, Wes Welker, Eric Decker, Doug Baldwin, Rod Streater, and Austin Collie. Thats just off the top of my head. Matthews definitely has decent odds to make it and be a good player, certainly better then your average late rounder at most other positions. I like him so hopefully he ends up being our Victor Cruz or Miles Austin.
Dude, stop trolling. People mind less when its at least funny but even though I agree with you about our record its not right to the OP. State your opinion in a different thread and keep this one on topic please.
Hey Boik, can you delete all the negative posts out of here? I really only want to hear from positive fans. Thanks!
Positive: Lamar Miller will get the opportunity to show he deserves to be the #2 back this week. I feel bad for DT but believe this a blessing in disguise for the Phins.
Well I was going to delete those anyway. Things can be debated in the thread but I felt those first two were just trolling. Just needs to stay on topic. You were right the first time.
I for one am willing to give Ireland the benefit of the doubt for the Parcells influence, but now it's on him. I am disappointed that he isn't more aggressive in getting a playmaker at WR. I still don't know if it was Philbin or Ireland who really wanted Marshall gone.
Positive: If Lamar Miller is good and the coaching staff likes what they see from Daniel Thomas Reggie Bush can be sold off to a team that needs a back like GB or Detroit for draft pick or player compensation who hopefully wont leave us after the season. Jake Long and Mike Pouncey gave up 0 sacks hits or pressures to a very good Houston defense. Unfortunately Richie, Jerry and Martin gave up 2 saks and 9 pressures. Our defensive front 7 is good as last season it seems
I think a lot of folks are in wait and see mode as it pertains to the direction of the franchise, so thats why there isn't more. Waitin to see if Philbin is the right coach. Waitin to see if Ireland's draft classes the past two years are worth us keeping him in board to run an exciting offseason. Waitin to see if Tannehill is the man. Wanna see Bess, Hartline, Bush, Lane and Fasano on the field at the same time. Rootin for this team to win, they played hard last week, so I respect that.
We played the Texans tight for 25 minutes before our rookie QB looked like a rookie and pissed the game away. Those things are going to happen, but our defense held in check for the majority of the game the best rushing attack in the league. Reggie Bush looked pretty good and our offense was doing decent up until all hell broke loose in the second half. Tannehill showed some anticipation and improvisation skills which are two of the most important skills for an NFL QB to have.
Also, we can list the positives, but the threads that a tact a lot of interest tend be be debatable topics. By definition, only looking at one side (the positive) of anything means there can't be a debate from the contrary position. I think there are some positives. I like Philbins philosophy way better than Sparanos. Sparano seemed to coach scared, and 'not to lose' while Philbin seems totally the opposite. I love him going for it on fourth downs when it makes sense, for instance. He has a "What do we have to lose?" attitude and I can tell his number one commitment is to the team IMPROVING. He puts these players in positions to learn and develop. I like Tannehill so far. I like our defense with a couple exception (I'll save those for another thread). I like our DTs and DT depth a LOT. I like the direction of our offense. Once we are capable of executing Sherman's fast paced offense, it'll be amazing. The only faster offense in college was Oklahoma. Love how Bush and the running game look. Believe the OLine will be a strength. Just watch. Philbin has background developing OL, Sherman did so twice at TAMU with young guys. This OL will be very good. I am THRILLED that our special teams is better than it has been in years.
I thought after week 1, any team could sign a FA without his contract being guarenteed. I would like to shake some trees on WRs. Is it after week 2? Maybe a trade with GB for a couple WRs. We give them Bush, we get Jones and Jennings.
Thats what Im saying, though I dont think we could or would get both. That team needs an RB that fits their scheme and while Benson is adequate hes a plodder with almost no big play ability. Theres a few teams out there who if we are bad at the trade deadline would probably give us decent picks or players for an impending FA and 2 of them Detroit (who needs a RB compliment to Smith and Leshoure now that Jahvid Best is out) and Gb are in the same division. I wouldnt be surprised if the Giants or Steelers kicked the tires also.
I think we take out our aggressions out on the Raiders, kind of like we did last year against the Chiefs and the, well, Raiders. Fins 34 Raiders 13
new coach new young QB with high ceiling strong running game with young RBs good young Oline top 10 (or arguably top 5-6) front 7 on defense S Smith evolving into what we hoped for all along I really don't know why some fans have been so cynical. we were lousy for a long time, it's going to get better. send the team some positive karma.
I agree on the WR spot. I know Ireland sees the problem, my guess is teams know we're desperate and he doesn't want to overpay. I think Marshall is gone b/c he himself wanted to be gone. The way he acted on and off the field showed he didn't have much respect for his teammates, coaches or front office. Sucks to lose a talent like that though... Gotta beat the Raidizz this week. They're coming off of an emotional home loss to a division rival on Monday night, traveling on a short week to the east coast to play football in an oven at 10 a.m. their time. Can't ask for a better set up than that.
Hey, I'm a positive fan! Really looking forward to see how RT handles the pressure from their front 7 and takes advantage of their weak secondary.
In general, I enjoy nothing more than posting positive perspective. Fact is, I try to inject humor, into anything I post that might be deemed less than constructive, but the idea that we should need a thread, to channel positive opinion by filtering out the bad, frankly seems a bit too sterile, as it pays a price in doing so, that needlessly censors it into a makeshift state of denial. Seems to me what this thread is actually trying to exclude, more definitively, are the annoying yet neverending cries of misfortune and discontent which are now perpetually wrapped around nearly every topic of discussion. What I believe we want freedom from isnt the truth, but rather from the incessant, pestersome, and virtually inescapable, dolphan whine.
If Martin becomes what Ireland wanted, then this line should be a very positive thing for this team, and building around it.
That was a decent front 7 that we were gashing regularly on Sunday. Anytime they played honest we ran with success. The pass pro was spotty but passable, and outside of San Fran we wont face another team who can bring heat like Houston can.
Good post! I've always let it be known that the constant negativity is rediculous IMHO. I think Hartline is going to have a HUGE year, and Armstrong should be a good addition. Reggie looked like a beast last week, and Fasano is a very above average TE. I'm anxious to see Tannehill's progression!
I feel good about beating the Raiders this week. They play into our hands. Only drawback....how do we score? Raider defense looks improved. Low scoring game..we eek it out.
This reminds me of game 2 of a season when Fiedler was our QB, we beat the Raiders on a QB draw? Something like that.
Once you've had black, you never go back. It's like if you have been driving a Dodge Aries K your entire driving life. You are satisfied because you know no better. Then someone gives you the keys to a Corvette to drive for a week or two. After that, things are never the same when you get behind the wheel of your Dodge Aries.
