I'm fine with the Vontae trade. I don't think he would have fit very well in this system anyway. Lots of zone coverage and that really isn't his forte at all.
I said it in the game thread when someone mentioned Marshall being on the sideline with something wrong with his back.
I'm pretty happy with their decision to trade him but our back-up safety was our 3rd cornerback today.
I think the tune would be a little different if Miami were playing someone other than Oakland. They certainly could have used him last week.
I'm watching Vernon Davis be interviewed by Bob Costas on the pregame right now, and believe me folks, he's a totally different creature from Vontae. I could easily see Vontae never "getting it" the way Vernon has.
Jesus H. Christ on a bike. Yeah, sure. Marshall is out, and if you think Davis wouldn't have helped you are delusional.
Our entire secondary, backups included, played great today. Davis would not have helped. You and your jesus christ on a bicycle are the delusional ones. Oakland would have had the same passing production. Remember, Vontae wasn't even our starting CB.
I must have missed the version of this thread last week. We got good value on the trade, but thinking we're better off because we survived Carson Palmer and the elite WR corps of the Raiders is silly.
I do remember he wasn't starting at the time he was traded. I also remember over the course of the 3 previous seasons, he was our best cornerback and that the nickel back plays about 60% of the snaps, and that if you have a starting CB get hurt, he becomes the starter, and the dime back or 3rd safety becomes the nickel. Carson had 373 yards, and 7.8 ypa. Yeah, that's really shutting down the opposing QB. Oh sure, Davis wouldn't helped. Enjoy your stay there, living in denial.
yes our defense played flawless were clearly immune to upgrades
I think trading vontae was a mistake but it is what it is. New regime. They didn't like his attitude. Hopefully he does well in his future endeavors
373 yards, nearly 50 attempts, completed 50% of passes, and 13 points. Not really glowing success by the quarterback in my eyes.
373 yards given up passing, if factored out over the course of a season would be about 5900 yards passing. Regardless of completion pct, if a QB did that along with nearly 8 yards per attempt, he'll be highly successful much more often than not. I just find it very amusing how some people, not you necessarily, look for any rationale to paint the trade of Davis in a positive light. Having Marshall get hurt really magnifies the lack of corner depth we have now, without Davis. Thanks to the ill-timed and unnecessary trade of Davis by Saint Jeffrey.
I'm tired of the ego maniacs trying to prove they're right at every opportunity. Making this proclamation after week 2 is ridiculous. At least wait until we play a real passing team.....
If Marshall is out any period of time or has lingering effects of this injury we are going to be in trouble.
Actually there is no replacement for Vontae! That's the problem i have with the trade. Marshall didn't replace Vontae, he won the job this off-season. I believe Vontae would have won it back but that's besides the point. If Vontae was replaced we wouldn't have the problem we have now, no real depth!
No better, but not much worse. We didn't miss Vontae today, disagree all you want but these personal attacks are pathetic.
Based on the single Hard Knocks interview or the fact that they both had maturity issues early in their careers?
