What was your gut reaction, and your analytical one to the way Philbin handled his first shower.?? He looked pretty bad *** to me.lol. Some of y'all can get pretty deep on this reaction stuff, I'm not sure if his reaction interprets anything but would like to know if there are any thoughts about it in terms of leadership personality.?
I think it shows the team belongs to him for one. Secondly, I think he is VERY cautious of his emotions in public. He is very guarded. I also think he lets his hair down with the guys on occasion. I also think the video of his speech had the dancing edited out because Philbin feels that kind of stuff is for the team only.
Gut: Umm .... you gonna smile dude? Analytical: "Look guys, I'm all business. And I want you to be all business. We won today because we prepared and executed better than the opponent, and we need to keep this up week to week. I'm not a flamboyant guy, and I'm not going to start now. I'm all business, and I want to portray this even after an exciting first win. Of course it's good to get it out of the way, and I'm thrilled, but if I celebrate too much, you guys may start to think this stuff is easy, or that I'm a little softy. But it isn't easy, and I'm not soft - I want instill a winning attitude in you guys, and I want you to come and expect to win, not be surprised by it. That's the way we did it in GB, and I want to do that here. Yes, thanks for the shower guys, I'm very happy to be appreciated and recognized, but let's not act like we just won the Superbowl, OK. The next time you give me a shower, it better be because we just earned a trip to the Superbowl. Now, go enjoy this tonight, and let's get back to work on the Jets tomorrow."
He looked at his players like this aint the super bowl!!! There is a ton of work to do so instead of jumping for joy about beating the sorry *** Oakland Raiders walk off the field and start thinking about how to get better... Thats what i got out of it
Precisely. What I said in the gameday thread was "I think he's got bigger goals in mind than just one win."
Bit embarrassing to be honest. As mentioned earlier its the Raiders who were hampered by scheduling and a load of travelling in a shorter week in the Miami heat. Embarrassing the players acted like a playoff victory against a quality opponent, totally understand the emotions but that's what they are paid good money to do (win games)
He was probably concerned about how his rear looked in wet pants. Hell, I know I would. Hi DJ... :waves:
I think they did it because it's the coaches first win and they may recognize the moment of it from his perspective, if they did it because they feel like they won something and they should celebrate THAT joyfully, I'm sure they got the message.
The look I saw was "WTF.....what the hell are you guys thinking. We won one lousy game. Leave that sh*t for when we start winning games in January and February."
Am i missing something? I don't see what there is to analize. Did Philbin comment on it? I just saw it happen then he walked on the field to shake hands with the other coach.
Just shooting the sh$& about his reaction when he got doused, what did his reaction tell you what he was thinking at the moment.
I would love to comment but from what I saw there was nothing to comment about. If I remember correctly all I saw was his back get dosed with gatorade and saw nothing but his back walk away on his way to shake the other coaches hand. Did the cameras even show a reaction out of him? If so, I don't remember seeing anything except what I explained.
Sort of related but how would yuou guys feel if the Jets give Sparano a Gatorade shower? Personally, I would be pissed. The Ravens gave one to Cam Cameron when they beat us the following season. I find it disrespectful but that's just my opinion.
