I know people get on him for acting like a douche or whatever but honestly I don't mind that. The guy's a season ticket holder being sold a product and he gave some feedback about that product to the guy selling it to him. BFD. From what I've heard the guy Sean didn't just drunkenly slur out you should fire yourself, he actually argued and expressed his displeasure over certain moves Ireland has made.

I don't have a problem with Jeff Ireland's response, but I know this...the everyone made a BFD when Rex Ryan essentially did the SAME THING to heckling Dol-Fans, getting caught on camera flipping the bird at them. Ryan was at a concert with his brother as I recall, just trying to enjoy the show. Because of that photo he had to apologize publicly and he even had to pay a fine to the NFL for his conduct. And I know some of these same people defending Ireland's calling the guy an a-hole were probably critical of Rex Ryan for what he did.

I'm consistent. I have no problem with either incident. I thought Rex Ryan was well within his rights and I think Ireland was as well, though neither response was particularly wise given the fish bowl they live in.

How many times does piling on happen in society today, it really wasn't unexpected.....

And how many people did it 5-10? or was it piling on like 40?

If it's true I'm sure Ross cares.

Ever heard the expression the "customer is always right"?

Your GM simply can't get involved in ridiculous situations like this. Regardless of the circumstance

Big difference is that Ryan was caught and verified with a picture.

I'm assuming this happened at halftime when the Dolphins were down 10-7 and had just punted like 6 times in a row or something.

If this did happen, I have no problem with a fan, let alone one whose had season tickets in the club level for years, voicing his displeasure. "Sean" has spent thousands of dollars to watch his team. He has a right to be pissed. Plus, its a free country and he can say whatever he wants. Ireland should be able to appreciate that, after all, he asked a 19 or 20 year old kid,Dez Bryant, if his mother was a whore.

That's true. That's why the league will certainly not act on this, like they did with Rex. Although as I recall the league only acted indirectly with Rex and made suggestions, and the Jets voluntarily fined him.

But you watch, Pro Football Talk is going to pick this up and put it on NBC Sports, and then others will pick up on it, and suddenly it becomes a story that the Dolphins either have to confirm or deny. There may even end up an official apology.

Apparently the Dolphins have admitted that Ireland called the guy an ******* and will decide what course of action they'll take.

Much like with Dez Bryant, Ross will investigate, Ireland will apologize and the matter will be deemed closed. Maybe Sean gets a food voucher or something

You live in a fish bowl, man. It's not wise to do this kind of thing.

But he was well within his rights and even Sean admits it.

Ireland will probably have to issue an apology.

My suggestion: look up the guy's sales history, find out exactly how much money he's given to the Dolphins, and fine Ireland the same amount.

Mr Ross can't be happy about this at all. Especially after putting his signature underneath that quote of his where he calls fans the most important member of their team. Or something like that. I can't find the picture. I believe David Canter tweeted it over the weekend.

agree, if it happened, the Dolphins will be the ones to confirm it and then respond about it. PFT will get a phone call from the FO/Ross if they put a story up about it. If it didn't happen, eventually a fan is going to try it now that they think it's possible. If I were Ireland, I'd have a couple of security guys following me around wherever I went. I'm not saying he isn't immune to criticism. It's how you go about it doing that which is potentially dangerous.

This is the part you don't hear about. We're just supposed to believe all Dolphins fans are unhappy, heckling a-holes...yet the reality is the fanbase is mostly made up of people who would be all too eager to talk pleasantly with Jeff Ireland and even have their picture taken with him if they saw him up close.

    Boom.

Update: Jeff Ireland just called me. He regrets the incident.

"It did happen at halftime and I was going back to my booth after seeing my wife and I did talk to several fans that were very nice. But as I'm walking back this guy introduces himself to me and says I should fire myself," Ireland said.

"It caught me off guard. I just turned and walked away but I did say the word. I regret I used the word I used. I thought I was using it under my breath. I guess I kind of said it loud enough that he could hear it. I literally said it under my breath. At the time I felt I handled the situation pretty good. Probably muttered it a little too loud. I regret that I said anything."

When I was at the Raiders game two years ago at Oakland, we heard about a Dolphins fan being kicked out of the stadium for starting a fight. Sure enough the video of that fan swinging at a Raiders fan and getting knocked out appeared on YouTube a couple of days later. If there was a piling on this past Sunday, it should pop up just the same.

Update: Just read Ireland's comments about it on the Herald blog.

They should make him negotiate Jake Long's contract by putting Ireland in full pads and have him try to pass rush on Big Jake.

    Good for Ireland.
He goes out and gets us a QB which we haven't had in years. These idiot fans need to show some respect.
Probably one of the same fans that wanted the GM fired right before the draft because we didn't sign Flynn.

yeah I'm behind in this thread apparently... not good. I expect Ireland to be reprimanded heavily by the team and maybe the league. It could lead to his firing. I guess the fan got what he wanted, Ireland may have just fired himself.

Let me add that Ross will be the one that ultimately makes that call, but given how scared he is about public perception these days... doesn't take a genius to make this leap.

You know what pisses me off way more than what Jeff Ireland did yesterday?

The fact that he's lying about it.

He says he muttered it under his breath. It's a loud ****ing concourse. Nothing you say under your breath with your back turned to a guy as you're walking away is going to be not only heard by the guy in question but heard by everyone around you to where multiple fans also hear it.

I understand why he's lying about it but I'd rather he just drop his balls and say yes I lost my temper, I said the word, I shouldn't have, and for that I apologize. That's it. Don't go on some BS trying to convince me "I really thought I said it under my breath, I can't believe he heard me..." because then you look like a 12 year old making excuses as to why he didn't bring in his homework today.
