Sometimes he is...okay I guess...But I feel a definite air of superiority from him in regards to other fans, and quite often, he will not admit when he is wrong. Like when it was quite obvious that VD was not starting, in the dog house, whatever. Just now, he blamed Naanee's lack of production on Tannehill, saying it's only because there is no chemisty between the WR and QB...But if that’s the case, then Nannee would’ve sucked in practice too I'd think. And lately he always seems last with any scoop lol.
I pretty much agree with EVERYTHING you just said. I was curious what the masses thought of him. I realize that by being a journalist or beat writer that this is your life and it's how you pay the bills, but there is a definite negative tone to most everything and I do get a sense of the superiority complex from him. So why do I follow him you may ask? Just because I crave all the Fins info I can get!
The guy is awful...cites Bible verses every day, NEVER BREAKS anything.....totally worthless.... I told him that I hoped "Burnett actually kicks his *** in" and he banned me lol...
Do not follow any of the S Florida sports writers on anything. Between Omar and Armando, LOL, they both are equally the pits of sports reporting. One constantly out does the other on epic failure.
Omar is ok. Sometimes he is condescending and stubborn but I like his feelings on the team for the most part. He can be funny too when he gets into it with fans. Ben Volin is my personal favorite.
Hes kind of a hack. Like others have stated he doesnt break anything (maybe sources have cut him off) and most likely gets his info from the same place we do (practices and forums like these) but nothing more. I know a few posters on here who put forth much more quality info than this cat.
How about Nannee best receiver? That is all we heard all training camp. Now it is because he has no chemistry with Tannehill? Really, what did Tannehill and Hartline do in training camp, meet up on the beach and run routes at night? Omar is a pig headed arrogant reporter that thinks his shhh doesn't stink, and always cites his "knowledge and experience" and thinks everyone is inferior to him because he "watches" the play and read a book called "Keep Your Eyes Off The Ball" or something.
He's useful as a source of Dolphins news purely by virtue of the access his position grants him, but other than that he's useless. In fact, I'd go so far he's less than useless. He doesn't know much about football, but he knows just enough to seem convincing to people who don't know any better.
His content is worthless. To be fair though, he gets the best ratings of all SFla writers. I'm sure his employer is happy with him, even if he is beyond unprofessional.
I don't care for all the off-topic stuff. And he engages so many of his followers needlessly and can be very condescending. But that's his feed and there's nothing 'wrong' with that for the most part. Just personal taste. He's hinted that this might be his last year in the gig and he'd like to do something else. I think all the noise has worn him down. Volin is good. Armando is actually good too, as he gets info and provides perspective since he goes back to the Shula years. Barry Jackson, though not a beat guy, always brings the ruckus to the ladies.
Thanks for info on Volin. Gonna follow him. I knew I wasn't crazy when I suspected Omar could be a bit of a TOOL. (Well, maybe I am crazy but he is still a TOOL)
I'll say that he doesn't seem as susceptible to hysteria as the general sporting press and generally seems to have a level head wrt his take on what's going on. That said, he does tend to get fixated with ideas, and just won't let the delusion go despite increasing evidence to the contrary. His weakness is his inability to admit uncertainty in his assessments; its an immediate judgment thing and once he's made up his mind, it's rare that he'll ever shake from it, though I have seen him change his mind and admit he was wrong. All in all, he and Volin are about the most consistent beat writers.
ahhhh.. remember the time when Omar tweeted that he had something BIG to announce. This was a year ago before the season started. People thought he had some kind of scoop on a trade or player news... turned out to be a story about the Brandon Marshalls. he caught so much **** for that. epic.
Omar is a putz. If you're going to follow one person Volin would be a good choice. I follow many and its all dolphin related. Feel free to look at who I follow. @landshark_13
He and Jeff Ireland should have a "Self Awareness Off". It'd be like two paraplegic's in a cage match.
For her sake I hope he's better at that than he is at analyzing football players. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Omar is that guy that never really express's a opinion on anything, then when something is finally clear cut he acts like he's been saying it the whole time. When asked about what he thinks of Tannehill he wants to wait 30 games before he says anything about it. I'm pretty sure 30 games into somebody's carreer its pretty clear cut what they are going to be to even just the average fan. I have grown to like him less and less. He complains about his job a lot, I actually tweeted him one day that he gets to write about football for a living, be around the players, see behind the scenes of the game we all love, and I try and keep cancer patients from dying everyday. Maybe he should be a little more appreciative of what he gets to do. I also noticed that he is the last person to really break anything anymore. Violin or however you spell it has been much more informative this season. I'm sure the guy does put up with a bunch of idiots on there, there are enough idiots on these boards to keep everybody annoyed, so I can imagine what twitter is like.
