I think the big problem is the MASSIVE wages the players are on and yet don't serve up a winning season really gets to people after a while. Coupled with the state of ther economy and the obvious hatred of the Dolphins management will ensure that people will stay away, and look for other ways to spend what spare cash they have. Oh yeah, and the incredible prices of the tickets. We, when we have attended, have always purchased tickets on the top tier. And another thing, whilst I'm on. Some of the stadium staff leave an awful lot to be desired. (Not knowing prodeedure)
That all said, the game is on LIVE over here this weekend, and I'll be watching after consuming wifeys delicious Sunday roast country lamb and a few bottle of wine. Hic !!!!!

I blame the Red Zone channel / fantasy football and the ridiculous prices of concessions, tickets, parking.

Then sprinkle in dissatisfaction with the product, and we have arrived at the breaking point.

That's the majority of the folks though. Florida was easily one of the worst hit states by the recession, if not the worst. They have to come down off the prices for it to be viable for even middle income folks to make it a worthy entertainment purchase, while we aren't winning a lot. Again, we start winning and the seats will fill up, but a $300 (at least) purchase for a couple of people to bake in the sun while the team loses is a hard sell in a down economy. That's not a loyalty problem. That's a reality problem.

    As a comparison...

The Miami Heat sold out their season tickets in record time, then got commitments for sellouts for the next 4 years, and the secondary ticket market is downright hot for a Heat ticket.

    Those tickets ARE NOT CHEAP.

It wasn't always like that. I wonder what happened that made it that way?

IMO, Sun Life stadium is a dump, and needs renovations...but if they win...ALL problems will be solved.

This was my question how bad is the economy in the local Miami area? I'm in New Mexico and we have some spots in the state that are picking up because of the oilfields but I'm in Alb area and it's been a disaster here so many repoed homes in the last 3 years it's unreal.

In all fairness Section I'm not a big basketball fan but i would go to a Heat game if I could I mean the team is a overload of talent.

Even Ross is not dumb enough to try to make a statement by blacking out THIS game.

    Especially after the JI stuff.

    Now the Rams...

Going to an afternoon game means you miss all the other games. A lot of people prefer the experience of watching all the games in the luxury of their home.

The key here is disposable income.

People have little of it, and they have decided to use it on restaurants (restaurants are packed down here) and on game days, they are either staying home, or going to bars. In a down economy, people will not cease to entertain themselves, but they will look for more economical options.

    That's where we are.

he'll buy them again, and again, so his fanbase enjoys themselves, and he'll continue to get bashed by the same folks who have purposely decided to stay away, because two years ago he made a run at the best coach in the game..

You are 100% correct that my going to the game is a contradiction to many of the things I have stated on this forum over the past year. When I gave up my season tickets after going to games for over thirty years, I had no intention of going to a game until Ireland was no longer the teams GM and Sparano was no longer the coach of the Dolphins. In fact that is the reason I refused to go to any games in 2011. I was also upset that the Dolphins continued to stick with Henne as the teams starting QB.

This past off season, I admit I wanted Jeff Fisher to be the Dolphins next HC. I didn't want the Dolphins to draft Tannehill in the first round and I was still extremely upset that Ireland was still the teams GM. I really had no intention of attending any home games this season. I just was given the opportunity to attend the game last week and sit in an air conditioned suite. It was hard to turn down that opportunity, so I decided to attend the game. I enjoyed being back in the stadium and I certainly enjoyed cheering on this young team.

I have come around on Tannehill as the possible future QB for the Dolphins. I have also become appreciative of the coaching of Philbin and his staff. I have been particularly impressed by their halftime adjustments in both games this season. I am still not sold on Ireland as the teams GM, but I am certainly open to seeing how this season plays out before I start demanding his immediate dismissal again.

I certainly understand why you see my recent decision to attend this weeks game as a complete contradiction of my comments over the past year. All I can say for that is I guess I never realized how much I missed attending games, until I was at the stadium last week. As negative as I have been in regards to Ireland and even Ross. This never changed the fact that I am a Dolphin fan. Even though I didn't attend any games last season. I watched every single game the team played on television.

I will assure you, I have taken a lot of heat this week from other former season ticket holders I know, who can't understand why I am once again going to the games. They also gave up their tickets because Ireland was retained as the teams GM. One of these former season ticket holders was an individual I met over 25 years ago. He and his wife had seats right in front of my wife and me and we also traveled to some away games together. He is so mad at me for going to games while Ireland is still the teams GM, he won't even answer his phone when I call.

Am I a hypocrite for being so negative for the past year and yet still going to the games at this time? Yes, I admit that I probably am. Yet, I am not going to apologize for anything I have stated in the past, because that is the way I felt when I wrote my comments. I still think this team is going to have a very difficult time winning more than 6 games this year and I still think the team should hire a new GM if this team finishes below 500 this season.

Hypocrite or not, I will be in the stands rooting for the Dolphins this Sunday. I can also understand why many others still resist going to the stadium at this time.

I'm there almost every other weekend. It's actually screwy, because the CBS affiliate is in Naples and that's how they decide the blackout area.

We're looking at going to this game but upper bowl cheap seat tickets are costing like $65-70 at the cheapest. WTF? And anything lower bowl you're not going to get away with under $170 I think.

No ****ing wonder they're not selling this game out.

Just want you to know I never for one second questioned what kind of fan you are, once I believe someone really loves this team, I understand frustration, my points back then were always to protect the culture of the franchise, to give this team the best chance to turn it around, considering the new staff, and I truly believe that the mentality you and others had, can and has affected the culture in a negative way, which in return makes it harder for the team to achve victory, and I didn't feel that it was fair to the players and coaches on the team.

Wonder how they pulled that off. The rule is 75-mile radius and Naples is over 100 miles away.

With only 3,000 to sell, Ross will once again buy them (at $0.34 on the dollar IIRC). However, 51,000 is only 69% of 74,000. And the Dolphins opted for the 85% rule. So they'd need to get to about 63,000. Wonder what's actually going on.

Again, Ross has his issues. But continually putting the games on TV is really solid of him. Tampa Bay is in their 3rd year of blackouts, in a 65K stadium. The Glazers never buy tickets. Feel bad for the local Fox affiliate, who get to air infomercials instead of selling ads for NFL football.

That is the incomparable Adriana Lima. You're welcome. :)

Have a few more melonoma screenings with Rams-Fins tix as the "prize". That'll do it.

I'll be schlepping down for the game, but I'm getting to the end point with these season tickets. They've been in my family for almost 40 years so I've never been able to give them up, but the end is coming unless we start doing something really spectacular

We could beat the jets, be in position to compete for a good season, and it will still be ugly for that ram game..which will be disheartening for the players, which increases the odds of a flat performance.

Ahh. Per Ben Volin, the 85% rule is for 'non-premium' seating. Hence the 51K number.

Solid recovery for our market...but still. Butch up Dolphin fan...embarrass us in the Rams game...not this one. We need a loud and raucous crowd. These are the games that us detractors ***** about not having enough of. Now that we got one, SHOW UP!

Don't let the Jets fan in, I'd rather look at an empty seat. And if they put some type of canopy above the stadium (relatively cheap fix compared to tearing it down and building from scratch), they'd sell more tickets.

Energy does not necessarily = better performance. I think maybe in college it can negatively affect performance, but there are other factors at a play there i.e not hearing the plays/snap counts due to noise, etc. Not to mention college players don't have the experience of playing in front of large, loud crowds.

Also, just because players think it affects their performance positively doesn't mean it actually does.
