I kinda like him. Sure, at times he's condescending and arrogant, but I do enjoy some of his stuff he puts out because it's just an opinion from a guy watching the team more closely than I can. Simply put, I think he is entertaining.
He is a condescending douche bag. I had one email exchange with him about 5 years ago that deteriorated into him essentially pulling the "I'm a sports writer and your'e just a fan, I'm here everyday" card when I brought facts to the debate. When I continued to prove him wrong he started calling me names. You want Dolphin news and facts? Come here whenever you can. You want to follow someone on Twitter for football news and Dolphin facts? Follow CK.
Volin is basically the only bastion of quality Dolphins coverage still around. Examples: Darlington: gone and sorely missed. Salguero: useless "I TOLD YOU ALL!!!!!!123" egotism. LaVicka: when not tweeting about soccer, bashes the organization without offering anything informative. And Ethan Skolnick will now take potshots at the Dolphins even though he covers the Heat.
Yeah, what's the deal with Skolnick? He used to be my favorite writer when he covered the team. I know he covers the Heat now but I went to his feed one day and all he does is bash the Dolphins now. He kind of comes off as a douche to me.
but you learn what rappers had the best mix tapes before they were huge...screw football, give me trunk tapes....deuces
He is an idiot. His twitter posts are immature at times, and I have no idea why he responds to so many of them and then complains he has no time for his family...
Put it this way....my greatest sports nightmare would be a Dolphin game with commentary by Omar Kelly and Skip Bayless.
I am getting to the point where I can't stand the guy. He acts as though he hates the Dolphins! I say, get a new city Omar! Not only did he pick the Jets to win this week, but in the process he said there was a bunch of homers on the staff! Like it is completely unrealistic to pick the Dolphins this week... Omar, if you don't appreciate the team you are covering and you are always second guessing every move they make, I say move! It isn't that you don't sound like a fan, it is that you don't like the team at all.
I guess all of us could fall into this category at times, but Omar wants us to sincerely believe he has something important to say, and will try to get philosophical about it at times, and then he will respond to a tweet "screwed your momma"? He wants us to believe he has expertise in the play of offensive linemen; I guess this is to show his true knowledge of the game. But I am not sure exactly what he really knows about offensive linemen. And then he takes pride in banning people who respond to him on twitter (especially those who challenge him). I just think he is confused about exactly what his job is. He appears to know more about the music scene than he knows about football in general.
It seems like there's a new thread about Omar Kelly every week. It's clearly like 90% negative sentiment. I'm still trying to figure out if that's a good thing or a bad thing for Omar. It may be a good thing.
I actually don't mind LaVicka. I'd rather see a writer bash the team when they're bad instead of blowing sunshine up my ***. I don't mind Volin, when he's not praying before his Tebow shrine that is.
Honestly I think it is. If you're a media type who cares how they feel about you as long as they DO feel something about you.
The thing is that us talking about him doesn't help him much IMO. Most of this site is made up of hardcore fans who know who he is already. If lurkers read the thread and don't know who he is, they will probably skip over looking into him based on the comments.
I believe he's admitted that he's experiencing a bit of schadenfreude. The Dolphins weren't media-friendly when he covered the team, and now that they've fallen from grace, he's sitting back with beer and popcorn. And Twitter. And a radio show. Skip Bayless' career confirms your theory.
Ethan does not have to bite his tongue any more since he no longer has to interact with the organization. IMO, he considers the Fins classless.
I agree with the crowd. Omar is arrogant, condesending, and doesnt seem to really appreciate his job. He gets paid to watch and write about the NFL, for crying out loud. But he'd rather talk about shoes or music or other nonsense. Like others, I check out all three local paper's websites for info about the team, but thankfully thats less necessary these days than it used to be.
I think I understand what you are saying. The negative following is better than no following at all. Ignoring would be the best strategy.
Omar is in the media, and because he has access to very important NFL players, he tends to put himself on a pedestal. My wife works for NBC. She has rubbed shoulders with Jay Leno on more than one occasion. She does the same, although........I know this woman personally (if you know what I mean). What I dislike about Omar is that he is a Twitter whore. I am not a fan of this crap. Getting personal (telling us that his grass is not as green as his neighbor's) is one thing. Opining about ridiculous idiocy is another. I personally have kept Omar on my account because he can be informative. I am not a fan of the crap, though. Arguing with a fan is unprofessional. Whatever he is doing, he should probably continue. He has a pretty large fan base. If he is listening: Do not "deuce" where you eat.
