I know everyone is pissed and aggravated/depressed right now.We are a good football team and we are not far off from being a contender. Not there yet, but we hung with the Jets for 4 hours. We lost for many reasons but the most glaring is obviously Carpenter missing 2 critical kicks and really bad play calling had me scratching my head. Not using Miller more over Thomas, that's bad coaching. But we are close....we proved it today.

I agree with CK 100 percent now on Thomas. He runs right in to people. Lamar needs to start next week

This Dolphins team has talent in the trenches. We will hang with or beat other teams that rely on defense and running game like Oakland and the Jets. I fear this team's weaknesses will really be exposed when we play teams with potent offenses like Houston. Tannehill will hopefully improve as the season goes on, but he needs more weapons. Just my humble opinion.

We should have been all over this team. We did the big fold.

I agree we aren't that far off from being very good. I thought Tannehill played pretty well despite his stat line. Take away the ridiculous deep throws to Hartline that no QB could complete to him and his stat line is decent. The issue I see is that they don't seem to trust him at all with the middle of the field, even though when he goes over the middle he is very successful.

Tanny is going to be a beast. You can already see he is going to be very good. Maybe no Marino but he will be very good.

This team is significantly better than the Jets outside of our corners . We have a better all around team. We are not that far fellas. I love how they hit on D and the swagger we are developing in the trenches

It is way too hard to overcome a pick 6 when you don't have a great offense. combine that with Reggie going down with an injury - those are the 2 biggest factors for our loss.
everyone should step back from the precipice and stop the overreacting.

I hope you're right, but the TD/INT ratio is concerning. He's off to a good (not great) start, IMO. But that one HUGE metric has got to improve if he's ultimately going to be the guy.

You mean setting the team up twice to seal the deal and having the kicker miss? Is this how you come to logical conclusions, especially with our best offensive weapon injured?

This team still has 3 glaring needs in order for it to be good: pass-rushers, secondary players, and receivers.

Tanny will get there. The pick 6 and 2 missed field goals killed us. I have other concerns at the play calling in several situations, and WTF is Miller sitting on the sidelines for??

Sure, but we also have to consider how much of that is really his fault.

Two of the INT's sure weren't, and they don't seem to trust him enough in the passing game as the game progresses. if New England only let Brady throw on third and long he wouldn't be as successful either.

It's like they open it up early and dial back as the game goes along.

The pass rush was a huge area of weakness today that probably won't be focused on much, but it hurt this team just as much as anything else.

The Dolphins badly need more help at WR and in the pass rush. Their inability to get to Sanchez really hurt them. They also need help in the secondary. They hung with and should have beaten the Jets, but the Jets aren't very good. I agree that they aren't far off, but I wouldn't say they are a good team.

I don't think hanging with the Jets makes you a good team, more a mediocre team.
I'm afraid we will see it next week.

  25. The Dolphins are a decent team, but you are far from being a contender. You lost to a crappy Jets team, fans of both teams need to realize that we are not going anywhere with our teams.

In my opinion we should take the approach of Philbin as a filter on offensive play calling. Sherman calls the play to Philbin, who can change it if he wants to or keep it as is.

We did hit Sanchez several times. We have a good pass rush right now, but with our secondary, it needs to be great.

Agree 100%. we can not have these mistakes. However, Tanny did rebound and put us in position to win 2 x's after that pick 6. Carpenter screwed him, not once, twice.

You completely missed the point I think.

Arizona didn't lose their best offensive player either to be fair.

A good football team would have won that game. We are not a good football team. We have potential and pieces in place, yes, but we are not good right now. I didn't expect us to be this year either. There have definitely been positives but the game out there today showed we have a long way to go too.

I think we saw the real Miami Dolphins stand up today. They're good enough to beat bad times, like Oakland. They're not good enough to beat the top-tier teams like Houston, San Francisco (what happened to them today?), Baltimore, and Green Bay.

Those teams that bridge the gap from middle of the pack to good, like the Jets, those are games that this year's Dolphins team can make go either way. Today, I think coaching played a big part in the loss, but the discrepancy in talent-level at some positions stood out a bit more today. And sadly, some of those talent deficiencies have been deficiencies for years.

I think we have some pieces, but we're not close to good... We need 2-3 more offensive playmakers, a CB, S, and perhaps some LB. And when we finally get those pieces, we're going to have to replace the old guys. We're looking at 2-3 years of great drafting and development before we're contenders. Maybe longer... Sorry to break the bad news.

Yeah, the team's attitude has change. Mind you, if Sparano was still coaching this team and we're up 17-13, the Dolphins would have lost the game in the end of the 3rd Q. The first thing that the team should address first is having a #1 WR. Would make things a lot easier on the offensive side. The others will come around.

Maybe but I think you missed my point I was making the point your playing at home and the away team made a ton of mistakes. Yet we end up losing the game because we let them back into it with our own mistakes. Young team not knowing how to step on there throats is what this felt like to me. Take the Houston game as an example of how fast they put us away for making mistakes.

I think pass-rush is the area of greatest need at the moment. Despite a few players getting better looks today - like Odrick - the pass-rush is still sorely lacking. I'd think I'd go with a quality S over a receiver still to this point as well. Chris Clemons had a few nice plays today, much like Jones last week. Both of them are liabilities in coverage. As is Richard Marshall as an outside corner.

I'll also say that our coordinators need that Nick Saban "come to Jesus" speech after today. I was not impressed with they way Kevin Coyle puts some of the poorer players on defense into really bad situations, i.e. Jimmy Wilson. Leaving Richard Marshall in press-man one-on-one vs. Santonio Holmes isn't smart, and he did that all day long. I get that that's his scheme, but Marshall wasn't up to snuff and it's Coyle's job to put him into a better position. Back to basics for both Sherman and Coyle.

And play Lamar Miller more! If there's one Jeff Ireland move I love, it's him having that foresight to draft Miller. I think it might make him end up looking like a bandit if Bush is out for a lengthy time period. I also think that in a way, it will benefit Ireland. I don't think Jeff would extend Reggie if he's hurt, thus I think that money ends up going to Randy Starks, Hartline, and Fasano - even if Ireland arrives at that conclusion in a backwards manner.

Miller doesn't do what he I supposed to / doesn't know the plays as much as Thomas, so the coaches play Thomas.

(see Miller running to wrong side for a handoff today)

They didn't hit him 'several' times. They hit him a few times and sacked him once. And a couple of the times they did hit him it was because he was sitting back there. The Dolphins do not have a good pass rush at all right now IMO.

And who will get us great players at those positions? The same talent assessor who picked up the ones who suck today.

Ireland is good at gathering DL and OL, but his hit rates on CBs and Safeties are alarmingly poor. Ditto WR.

I mean VERYtalented, high pick types.

He is good at finding acorns that turn out to be above average.

But true play,Akers at those positions? No, he's not good at finding those. So don't expect him to suddenly be able to identify and draft them now.
