I know we kicked a field goal to tie, but we had 3 timeouts and NEVER ran the ball once!!! Why the hell didn't we go for the win in regulation? Why go to OT with 3 timeouts in your pocket??? Sorry...not a big Philbin fan at all!
Lmao. We went for the win. Not the tie. This post is pure fail unless you think the Jets would have scored a TD with 30 seconds and no timeouts if we scored on a throw to the endzone
This is just knee-jerk second guessing. Last year, this forum would've been up in arms if the Dolphins ran to eat clock and tried a field goal to win. This year, apparently that's the smart move and trying to score a touchdown is just bad coaching.
end zone passes from the 27 yd line with 3 timeouts left? Yeah...I think that sucks! Run the ball a few times!!
Actually... Jrc is right on point. At least take what they are giving you with short passes over the middle bc you HAVE 3 TIMEOUTS. Get yourself in better position for a potential game winning throw (and at worst the fg).. But nah let's heave it to the end zone over and over, high percentage throws there. This one is on the coaching boys
If you don't need to use a timeout, you don't need to use a timeout. Number of timeouts remaining is not a measure of coaching ability. A coach that uses all timeouts is not doing a better job than a coach that doesn't use all timeouts. The Dolphins tried to win by scoring touchdowns. Field goals were settled for rather than desired. The kicker missed two. Somehow it's the coach's fault.
I didn't hate the calls. Tannehill just made some poor throws. Hartline had his man beat on both the throws to the end zone and neither ball was particularly close.
Well ... if you're barely in FG range (I think it was about a 45 yarder before the 3rd down play) and you have three timeouts left with around one minute to play, you're ideally looking to improve your FG odds while you're trying to score a TD. With three timeouts, you can still call a draw. You can still work the middle of the field. You can still take that first down and live to get a better shot at the endzone while making things easier for your kicker. In a nutshell, your playbook is still wide open and you don't really need to force two endzone tries, yet. In theory, it was bad game management. On the field, however, you have a rookie QB who had a couple of close ones over the middle (and one returned for six), you're in FG range and the last damn thing you want is a turnover. So you give it a shot on throws that are either TDs or incompletes, and you take your luck with OT. If we had Brady behind center, I'd be livid. With a rookie QB, it was a smart passive-agressive thing to do. What I don't get, however, is pretty much abandoning the run on the drives before that one. The Jets went ahead on a drive they should never have had to begin with.
Probably goes back to Hartline missing so much time in the offseason. The timing isn't there. Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G using Tapatalk.
Not all if the patterns were to the end zone. Tannehill needs to hit those passes, looked like the right read from what I saw. In the future I expect he will. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Exactly where I think we lost the game. I just don't get the play-calling: Miami Dolphins at 10:19 1-10-MIA 14 (10:19) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 82-B.Hartline [57-B.Scott]. 2-10-MIA 14 (10:14) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short left to 15-D.Bess (50-G.McIntyre). 3-10-MIA 14 (10:08) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short middle to 87-A.Armstrong. Miami Dolphins at 07:13 1-10-MIA 5 (7:13) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 41-J.Lane to MIA 6 for 1 yard (31-A.Cromartie). 2-9-MIA 6 (6:36) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 80-A.Fasano. 3-9-MIA 6 (6:26) PENALTY on MIA-17-R.Tannehill, Delay of Game, 3 yards, enforced at MIA 6 - No Play. 3-12-MIA 3 (6:26) 33-D.Thomas left tackle to MIA 7 for 4 yards (37-Y.Bell). The way we were running the ball, we probably would haven gotten a managable third down and possibly a first down on the first of the two drives. This would have reduced the number of drives for the Jets, which should have been good enough to win the game because the Jets offense was horrible.
I was more pissed about throwing outs instead of taking advantage of the middle of the field with those timeouts in your back pocket. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
True, but what does that tell me? I know, that our OL was dominating the LOS. We got solid yardage out of the running game. Their offense struggles, we need to milk the clock to give them even fewer plays. And when I pass the ball to guys who missed a lot of practices, a drop is something I might have to consider as a possible result. So no matter the actual results. Were the called plays the right ones considering all variabels? I personally don't think so.
We had 3 timeouts and didn't utilize the middle of the field. Instead we threw 3 30+ yard passes. It was ****ing stupid.
And in 2008, the very same forum would have claimed that this was the proper cause of action. Pound it home, baby. As far as playcalling goes, there's only ever two options on any given football forum. It either a) sucks completely or b) shouldn't be criticized because we c) won or d) have a new staff who's obviously way superiour to the former one that a) sucked completely after it b) shouldn't be criticized because we c) won and d) it was new anyway
In all fairness, the coaching staff doesn't throw the passes. RT clearly had guys open in the middle, he just chose to throw to Hartline. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I thought it was bad coaching when on 3rd and 7 they ran the ball, not trying to get Carpenter closer..incredibly conservative call.
same thing i said. the jets were cramping up earlier where the **** did miller go? he was doing a great job in bush's absence, instead we come out throwing the ball all over the place and all it did was give a ****ty jets offense great field position
I don't see why so many people don't seem to understand this. A passing play has multiple receivers running routes that the quarterback chooses from.
This doesn't at all also support your opinion. The Lane pass is pretty interchangeable with a running play, and resulted in the play clock running down. The real issue was the delay of game.
We should have attacked the middle of the field more. That is on Tannehill and Sherman. Why don't we run screen passes?
I don't buy that completely. Those passes were way long and I'm sure it was by design. Throw past the defense so there is no chance of an Int., and hope Hartline can catch up to it. To me they played for the tie and had hopes of getting lucky. A lot can be done with 50 seconds on the clock and 3 time outs left.
Unless the Qb is told to go to only one. It looked to me that Tanny never took his eyes off Hartline.
