I'm pretty happy with the team, we need a couple of pieces obviously but I like the way they play. Tannehill didn't have a great game, but once again showed very nice poise especially against a Rex Ryan defense.
Are we seriously *****ing about play-calling in theoretical circumstances? In a situation in which proper execution would have clearly had the desired result?
It is amazing how the football going outside of the uprights, instead of between them, makes folks feel one way or the other and try to explain in rational terms why the difference.
I forgot about Jones interception last week. With Marshall's IT today, that is two for the season, not three.
Clemons got a very important one in the end zone, after Thomas's fumble in our own territory. Huge play.
sure, whatever helps you analyze and get your mind right. use whatever you got. But only the coaches and players know.....FANs almost never have a real clue.
We are only one game down and we have a favorable schedule and 5 more division games to play. We will have a chance to come out on top. No need to panic. As Tannehill keeps improving and Reggie gets back in the game, we will compete this year as long as we stay healthy. Next year we will have more pieces to the puzzle and we will keep improving. We are a team on the rise. Buffalo is also on the rise but the Pats and Jets are declining.
I agree. Some people on here always want to blame to results on the coaches and not on the players. The last I checked, the coaches are on the sidelines and it is up to the players to do what is necessary to win the game. Last year and in 2009, and 2010, it was all the fault of Sparano and his coaches. Now it is the fault of Philbin and Sherman. I don't buy it. The players are the people being paid millions of dollars a year to make the plays on the field. The Dolphins just don't have enough quality players at this time who make the plays to win the game. That is the problem and it certainly isn't the coaching. We need more quality players and that is the responsibility of the player personnel department, which is headed by Ireland.
I am not so sure about that favorable schedule. The Dolphins have to go on the road to play the Cardinals and the Bengals over the next two weeks. I just don't see them winning either of those games. Their schedule gets a bit easier after that, but it is going be very difficult for them to win more than 5 or 6 games if they start out 1-4.
Your correct, I totally forgot about that interception. I was purchasing a soda at the time and I spilled half of it on me when the stands went crazy celebrating the interception. I have no idea how I forgot that play. I guess the fact the Dolphins somehow ended up losing the game has made me forget that they actually made some good plays in the game.
Also, more dumb **** in the vein of what people are posting. Holy how in the **** does a beat writer not understand that a passing play is a series of routes with a quarterback decision, and not a throw to an individual player.
you never know. I agree those games will be tough. I can't help but say I hope we win both but I don't think we will lose both. Even when we lose there's always hope that our division rivals will lose. And the fact that we have 5 more division games gives us a chance to catch up if need be.
Also, if those Daniel Thomas runs go for five yards apiece, instead of two and three yards, regardless of the pass play, we've gotten the 10 yards Hyde wanted so badly.
I'm satisfied with the coaching. There were play-calls that I generally didn't agree with, and some peronnel packages at certain times I didn't prefer. But that will happen in any game with any coach. So I prefer not to blame play-calling as that certainly is not why we lost today. I'm really satisfied with the fact that with a rookie QB we've been in position to win 2 of our 3 games. And in one of those games we had subpar production out of the QB position and had our usually reliable kicker executed better, we'd be 2-1. The 3rd game that we weren't in position to win appears to be against one of the top 5 teams in the NFL. Prior to the past two games, I had feared we'd struggle to be in position to win games late in the 4th quarter. It's good that we are. And I think the coaches are doing well and the culture they have created is good. Now we just need Tannehill to develop. That's the key. I'm optimistic of that happening. I think his intellectual capacity will go a long way in ensuring it.
by the way did you play your part in holding up the superstition from that thread about u going to the game? I dropped the ball on my superstition, I forgot to tell my girlfriend not to wash mine but I wore it anyway. lol
Depends on what writer you are referring to. I could think of a couple that think this way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I do suspect today's game is evidence that CK may be spot on on his analysis of Daniel Thomas, though.
That is most certainly the key. In fact I think it's so much the key that they're calling plays as though he's not a rookie so he'll be that much better next year. I think that may have been why you saw us attack the Jets with the pass when Revis went down, rather than pounding it with the run. These coaches are playing to develop Tannehill this year, not necessarily to win.
I'm not a sore loser but I hate ****ing losing to a team that we obviously outplayed and looked better than for 58 minutes of play.
When Bush went down and we weren't getting the chunk yards that he provides it really hurt because it put us in position to rely on Tannehill. Not good when you have to do that with a rookie QB. And I don't think he did all that poorly. And I'm sure you may disagree, but we could've used a player > than Armstrong or Naanee today. Dropping that 3rd down play could've been big. And just the fact that Naanee still has like 0 targets on plenty of snaps is alarming. Bess and Hartline can't be that much better can they? That upgrade at WR could've been the difference between that 50 QBR and maybe a 60 QBR which may have provided a win
The fact that we are all this upset about this game is because we played well enough to win with a rookie coach, rookie qb, new offense, new defense, no top wr, top weapon out and poor DB play against our archrival. Given all of the above, yes the loss stunk but I can finally see a good team in the near future... Welcome to the Dolphins, Ryan Tannehill!
Tannehill is a rookie who's played 3 games and today went against one of the better defenses and defensive minds in the NFL. Oh, and he led us down the field to tie and win the game. Carpenter let the team down. If you didn't like the Tannehill pick, then fine, you're welcome to your opinion. But to say all this after 3 games and call him a "game manager" is insulting.
Definitely a possibility. The Armstrong drop was huge from a momentum standpoint. I think what Tannehill is missing most, though, is a reliable target at tight end down the middle of the field. Fasano is okay, but Tannehill needs that security blanket guy who can get 8 catches a game.
It's one game, but I fear you might be right, at least about Sherman. I'm especially concerned about Sherman's playcalling. It at times was head-scratching to say the least. And Philbin needs to learn clock management.
1 I'm not sure I don't run it 3 times there. I might think about Miller on a pitch to see if he can break one rather than 3 off-tackle by Thomas. 2 Looked like the deep pass was the first option. Asking rookie to change it under those testosterone filled circumstances, is tough. 3 Hyde is a columnist, not beat writer.
Yeah, I'm not one of thsoe fans that always calls the other team "lucky" or says "you didn't win, we lost" but that was the case today. We gave that game away. Still can't believe Carpenter missed that kick in OT.
Obviously the Dolphins have a chance to win their next two games. I just think it is going to be very difficult for them to go on the road and beat either of these teams. They should beat the Rams in three weeks, and that should give them a 2-4 record going into their bye week. They go to New York and play the Jets again after their bye week. To me that is going to be a must win for the Dolphins. If they lose that game and are 2-5 or possibly 3-4, if they do win one of their next two games, they will be in serious trouble in their division. I think the Dolphins will split with the Bills and beat the Colts, Jaguars, and possibly the Titans. So I still don't see the Dolphins reaching 500 this season and I think 6 or possibly 7 wins is about the best we can hope for. Considering the Dolphins have a rookie QB and a below average receiving corp, expecting more wins then that, is probably unrealistic this season.
I went to the game today and I will be going to more games this season. I have never had high expectations for this season, but I enjoyed being at the game today, even if I didn't like the end results. Hopefully the Dolphins can start a new winning streak at home when they play the Rams in three weeks. I'll be there rooting them on.
Yes, the Dolphins should have won the game today. The problem with the Dolphins in recent history is that there are way too many games they should have won, but they didn't. Good teams find a way to win games like today. Mediocre teams lose and make excuses for why they lost.
Right, but with Mark Sanchez having a QB rating of only 58, it shouldn't have taken much to win this game convincingly, not have it come down to overtime field goals. The difference between dominating this team and its QB with a very poor 58 QB rating was the fact that we were operating with a rookie QB who himself had a lower QB rating of 50. That's what made this a nail-biter.
pretty fair analysis but I think our competition will give us a chance this year. I don't think anyone else in our division will have 10 wins. 9 wins will probably win the division.
