Because that'll almost certainly get him back to Pro Bowl form and not result in future bad performances and a potentially bad replacement kicker!

Naw I'd rather focus on doing stuff that will make us a better team on the field rather than worry about getting "revenge" because you somehow think kicker is different or allowed to make less mistakes than a normal NFL player.

That's NOT what I said or meant.
1st down at the 31 in OT. Just run the ball 3 times pick up 5-7 more yards. Make it a 40 yarder instead of 48.
In that scenario it's not Sparano Ball. It giving your kicker the best chance at making. Besides, we tried to hit Hartline with the exact same play 2 or 3 times during the last drive in regulation and missed every time.

one bad game does not make a career
    having said that,
bet Ireland is already beating the bushes for his replacement
don't see Philbin losing too many because of missed field-goals

Carpenter needs to fulfill expectations or exceed them with this HC, not disappoint :couch:

And last year he was tied for 7th out of 59 people who kicked in the league last year. Yeah, cut your nose off of your face for one bad game. That is the way to run a winning team. Yeah!

I think its ok to be really down on Carpenter...to be really disappointed. Yet...any talk of cutting him is craziness. He messed up...with the game on the line...but he is a talented kicker

We're already the butt of jokes as a fanbase. This would cement it.

Seriously, do you realize how backward this is?

As for being "warned in preseason", he missed two in the opener. Then nailed everything else thereafter. 50+ yards each game. He'd missed three thru Week 3 last season (one blocked, one from 51), then only two the rest of the way (from 49 and 55).

Sucks that he missed. But they weren't chip shots. And one rough game doesn't make him a bad player. We need not be so reactionary IMHO.

I had a feeling this tread was going to posted whe i logged on... Iont want to cut Carpenter, but we were in a spot to win the game twice with less then 50 yarders, you should be winning in this league when it happens...

OH hell yeah we can do that! I'm gonna roast him all week long! Thing is he may come back and win us a game next week. I'm someone that sticks with my team regardless. I can promise you all that Carpenter feels ten times crappier than any us do right now. He's probably sitting around a campfire right now drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels. I don't know...But I promise you he's not feeling too good about what happened. It will be behind us by next week but for now I have no problem verbally bashing him for the next 48-72 hours depending on my mood.
    He'll bounce back keep faith.

I disagree, we were good enough to control the game for 60+ minutes.. Carpenter whiffed on two field goals and Richard Marshall repeatedly got burned by Santonio the ***** Holmes. If we weren't very good we would have gotten blown out. We out ran them, neither QB played good but Tannehill still had the better game and looks like the better QB, we hit harder on defense (knocked the crap out them), we beat the hell out of them physically....Carpenters leg just didn't come through, and maybe a bit of a mental let down as well but that doesn't make us a bad team.

I don't believe it. What game were you guys watching? In the second half, the Jets were biting off five yards and more at a time, on the ground and through the air, while we couldn't buy a completion and our backs were running for only two to three yards per carry. You think maybe our offense is a finished product that's in sync? We have a rookie quarterback, a rookie coaching staff, only two viable receivers, an offensive line that's still a work in progress, our best player on the bench, and you guys want to cut the kicker for not making field goals of 47 and 48 yards? We should be thanking our lucky stars that we're doing as well as we are at this stage of rebuilding.

Carpenter should have made at least one of those. However, i think it's likely that soggy field was harder to kick off of than we realize.

I'm not one calling to cut him, but being called on to make a 40-50 yd FG is not being put in a really bad spot. Yeah, if the conditions were bad, like a heavy rain, or strong cross wind, but he had none of that. Any kicker worth his salt should be able to hit 50% of kicks in the 40-50 range.

Did the offense **** the bed in the second half? YES

Was the play calling questionable (IMO) in the second half? YES

Should the Dolphins have done a better job getting Carpenter in better field goal range? ABSOLUTELY

Should Carpenter have hit those field goals regardless? No question in my mind, YES.

All the blame is not on Carpenter for this loss, but damnit he still should have made those kicks.

We should cut Carpenter... with a knife! Every time he ****s up give him a lil slicey slice! Let him know what we think of the matter. Just don't go for any tendons or ligaments ya know?

Here's one more ridiculous suggestion for ya'll.

Are we really talking about cutting the guy with the highest success rate for any kicker who played more than 1 season in Miami? Reactionaries much?

    Wow, really????

I say cut the entire offense because they didn't score a touchdown on every 1st down when we had the ball...
I say cut the entire defense because they didn't cause the Jets to fumble or be intercepted or go 3 and out every time the Jets had the ball...
I say cut Mike Sherman since he called the offensive plays...
I say cut Kevin Coyle since he called the defensive plays...
I say cut Joe Philbin since he's the Head Coach...
I say cut Jeff Ireland since he put the team together...
I say cut Gloria Estefan, Serena Williams and every minority owner for turning the stadium into a side show...
I say cut Steven Ross for buying the Miami Dolphins...
I say cut Carlos Gimenez since he's the Mayor of Miami...
I say cut Rick Scott since he's the Governor of Florida...
I say cut President Obama since he's the President of the US...

Let's see, what other stupid cuts can I think of????

Hasn't hit anything over 41 yards...in non-windy weather last week and a Dome this week.

In close games like this and the Jets game you can't afford to miss points. If Miami ends up losing by 3 or less you'll once again be looking at missed FGs.

I love Carp...but you may have to bring someone in. If for no other reason than for him to realize he doesn't have it as cushy as he thinks. You can keep missing these nd I giving other teams chances.

Missed FGs are such momentum changers. Instead of being up 16-0, the Cards cut it to 13-7. A 10 point swing. Hard to win when you keep doing things like that.

Especially when we're the Dolphins and not the Patriots who have the talent to score 52 points like they did today. When teams like Miami miss Field Goals or turn the ball over in the red zone, it often comes back to haunt them.

Exactly. Arizona with the ball at the 20 on the kickoff. Instead they start on a short field and pumped up for missed FG. I can't take this kind of play out of the kicker. He was dangerously close to missing on the first FG as well.

Ahem, back to back weeks. I don't think we can ask much more for our offense which set records today to say "well we should score more TDs and less FGs"

Good teams win those close games and don't miss field goals every week. ask the 9-7 Giants last year how important field goals can be.

Also notice the two field goals he did make, were incredibly close to the bar considering they were in a dome with absolutely no wind.

He missed from 51. I'm open for replacing any kicker any time a better kicker is out there, but I'm pretty skeptical about what is out there. Sign a good young one next year? Sure. That would be prudent. The team should keep its eye open, but I think we're stuck for now.
