I guess I like Vernon more than others. He played for Randy Shannon. In case people here don't realize what it means....it means you don't develop in the years you play for him. Imagine the college version of Tony Sparano in terms of development. Vernon is RAW but he has a lot of physical talent. Don't count him out.
I never understand this notion that because Vernon played for Shannon he didn't develop... You know who Larry Fitzgerald played for? Demarcus Ware? Calvin Johnson? Patrick Willis? Revis?
Those are elite level talents and it's very different. No-one is saying Vernon is elite, just that he has a lot of potential. Chances are those guys didn't have amazing coaches but they probably didn't have negatives either. Shannon was a horrible coach when it came to developing anyone.
By itself no. Vernon also lacks technique to make the strength he does have all the more impactful. But he also needs to get stronger. I have yet to see him put a good bull rush on a OL and push him back for a solid pressure at the very least.
I think given his playing time in college and his age he is a developmental project who is getting to play early.
I'm not ruling out his development. I'm skeptical, just because I'm not sure I can remember a guy starting from this level as a rookie and developing to the heights he would have to reach to be a "known" kind of guy...but I'm not saying it's impossible. Black swan events happen. It's good to remember his age, and also the fact that his role in the defense could morph into something where he's able to have more success rushing the passer. I'd speculated from the start that if you move him inside on passing downs you might actually be pleasantly surprised at the pass rush you find.
Surely that is some degree of exaggeration. It's not all that rare for guys who turn out to be pretty damn good to come out and get their *** kicked pass rushing early on.
That's down cruel thing to say about Randy Shannon, as a Nole fan, I was Shannon was given a 10 year extension.
So Bpk, do you plan on mailing me this six pack before or after the holidays? He didn't even need a full second season to get double digit sacks. Pretty impressive, don't you think? Vernon has the talent, work ethic and motor to be a really good football player. And now we're seeing it. PM me for my address.
I don't know..Vermont has a beer that rivals Pliny the Elder called Heady Topper. Both are considered elite..although I'm not a huge fan of IPA. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Pliny is good but maybe overrated. I've been wanting to try Heady. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I find it interesting that some people around here can be so wrong about players and yet revered by so many in this forum.
Heady was like Pow with the hoppy flavor right off..but has a very nice balance after. It was hard for me to get over the hoppiness..but I could still appreciate how amazing the beer is. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
No one is going to be right about every player. I'm wrong plenty, but I saw something in Vernon that made me believe in him when very few did.
I bumped this thread because I wanted to have some fun with Bpk and further stick up for my boy Vernon, but I don't want it to turn into ripping others because they were wrong. So please, let's all just continue to point and laugh at Bpk and Bpk only.
Always been a OV supporter (even gave you a fist pump way back at the start of this thread over a year ago)… I am not a draftnik or one of those people that studies film… What I saw in OV was that he is a football player… he always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
I probably should have added that to my original… My point is that we have some so called talent gurus that get tons of props for this or that and when they are wrong (cricket cricket)…
Yup, same here. I don't even pretend to act like I watch film and study these guys pre-draft. In fact, half the guys that get drafted I've never even heard of. But watching Vernon early last year I saw a dude who is strong and plays hard every down. He just LOOKED like a true football player. And I knew he was raw. That's why I didn't understand why so many wrote him off so damn early. He still has work to do but you have got to love his development so far.
Serious question: Can you ship beer successfully? I've been wanting to ship my bud a six pack of some very nice brew from my area, but have been apprehensive about it. Don't want it spewing during shipping. Also concerned about potential "crossing state lines" laws. Just wondering if some of you have done it?
Oh… ouch.. never liked Henne... Speaking of QB's, what are your thoughts on Tannehill? I like a lot of the things I see from him but I also see a lot of things that really bother me...
I'm sure you can. I know my dad always has wine shipped from out of state. I think you just need an adult to sign for it.
Ys you can , they have beer of the month companies , much like they do for other products , so mailing beer should be fine as long as it is done legally , as in not to minors etc.
After that Jets Monday night game in 2009 I thought he was the guy. Then he had a big come back victory against the Pats later that season. Man, I thought he was going to be the one. As for Tannehill, he's still inconsistent but I think he has definitely improved from a year ago. He has the talent, just needs to improve on some things like pocket presence and downfield accuracy. I think he'll finish the season strong and take a major leap in his third year. I mean, despite a terrible offensive line he has put up some nice numbers. I think he's going to be a good one.
