Congrats Dolfans! We have been waiting for this for years! Get him another weapon and watch what he can do.
The cool thing is that for the first time in a LONG time, I don't cringe every time our QB drops back to pass.
Agreed Id behappy with -A- weapon along with line and bess right behind him. Just get one monster threat and its over.
I think our potential is very good indeed. Think of this. If we can hit on a stud WR from high draft pick, and with our large cap room next season, also find a reliable 2nd WR, our 4 starting WRs could be: 1st round stud, Free Agent reliable 2nd, Heartline and Bess. That is very very scary. Add to that perhaps a 2nd or 3rd round catching TE. We could be a potent passing offense if "someone" doesn't screw it up.
IMHO Tannehill has that Peyton Manning chess-like intelligence factor to him, and it makes me quite happy and optimistic about the future. You can see that he's not looking at the game like a normal rookie does, and that's quite remarkable despite what the stats say.
Amazing now he is just playing from the pocket, I saw him adjust some throws over the Los to avoid getting tipped, it was pretty cool, you could tell he was conscious of it, and did something about it.. Kid has no problem staring down the ole barrel eh? He's got a really nice arm, and I'm hoping that this former college wide receiver is only Scratching the service on the mental side..
I will temper my enthusiasm. But I do see the intangables and the ability. Even with losses like these there are reasons to be excited! Can't wait to hopefully watch Tannehill grow each week.
just give him a couple more receivers and all secondary and more pass rush in the offseason and see what we can do
See what we can do? Seriously. We just carved up a so called great defense with the so called worst WR's in football. We saw what he can do today. That was on the QB. He played his *** off and we have a franchise QB. Wake the hell up.
You can see THill's strengths and weaknesses, mainly his lack of starts hurts his game at times. For example, the fumble, A gap blitz that hit so fast Bush had no chance to block him, THill has to learn how to deal with that situation.
I'm not sure this means all that. Was Matt Flynn a franchise QB when he threw for 480 yards and 6 TDs last year? Being a franchise QB is based on more than just one game. Might he be our franchise QB? Sure. But not based on just one game. Hate to rain on the parade, and this will be my last post in this thread.
A receiver who catches 12 passes for 245 yards and a TD in one game is a weapon...Bess is not that bad either....But yeah lets get him a speedy deep threat to pair with those two and I think he will get much better.
I agree. I really wanna buy into Tanny, but it's premature to be annointing him "the franchise". God I hope he is!!!
True I heard the same thing about henne after 1 great game and we all know how that turned out.The one thing that dissapoints me(and the only thing) is throwing for 400 plus and only 1 td.The redzone is what seperates the men from the boys and in that aspect he is struggling but hopefully nothing a few more playmakers won't solve.
I see the talent much more clearly then I ever did with Chad Henne. The things I noticed Tannehill cleaned up this week: 1. He didn't play scared at all. 2. Read the defense better despite the ints and fumble 3. Improved deep ball 4. I didn't see the bust factors come out and I saw that "it" factor that people talk about and see in players.
He looks very poised in the pocket. For what he has to work with today was a real showing of what he can do and I'm very impressed. Get him that #1 wr and a solid secondary on the other side of the ball and I say we should be good to go.
Watching Ryan Tannehill has been such a joy so far. Yeah, he's made some mistakes but some of the throws he makes are out of this world. Leadership, poise, and athleticism are all glowing as well. Despite the pain of these last 2 losses, Tannehill has me more excited than ever moving forward.
I think most Fins fans are cautiously optimistic. He's shown some flashes but it's way too early to say he's our franchise QB. I guess we'll know in 2-3yrs if Tannehill is really the guy. The Fins definitely made the right pick by drafting him, especially if you look at the other qb prospects that will be coming out next year.
I feel like we had this thread for Henne after that Jets game in 2009. Or even the MNF Pats game last year when he had over 300 yards. Great performance, but I need to see more through the season.
We have legitimate hope at the quarterback position for the first time in a decade. Anointing him "the franchise" is premature but damn, it is tough not to.
Guilty. BUT, Tannehill possesses talent Henne never has, and it's evident. That's not even a knock on Henne. Tannehill just has more tools and uses all of them to the fullest.
I repeat, our Qb was a thousand yard receiver three years ago.. Imagine how fast things are happening for him at this point with his limited exp, yet he's still standin in there and slinging it.. Did y'all see that accuracy today..That can get better once things get slower..he prides himself on location.
It's nice to have some hope at QB. And I'm very satisfied with his play so far, his command of an offense for what should have been the most inexperienced 1st round QB in some time. But I won't let myself get sucked in yet. I need to see him lead a team to a 9-10 win season before I get excited. We've been down this road before, and although he has more promise and potential than probably anyone we've stuck there since Marino, I still need that winning season....or that consistency.
He's a rookie and every single rookie is going to have moments in a game where he looks....like a rookie. I've never had any doubts about his physical ability but he has far exceeded my expectations as far as the mental side of the game goes. His TD/INT ratio is highly deceiving and honestly I don't even look at that evaluating a young QB. It's more about what lead to those numbers than the numbers themselves. I've seen about 3-4 interceptions I can't put on him and several plays that could have been touchdowns that were dropped or said player didn't have the physical skill to take it all the way.
One strange knock on Tannehill for me is his footwork and being able to "feel" the pressure. It's strange because in college he was incredible at feeling the pressure and making the appropriate decision to step up, slide, run out, etc. In preseason and even the first couple games he had the same uncanny ability to sit back there and feel the pressure around him. This game and the Jets game he kind of sat back there without "feeling" it. This could be due to the fact he trusts the OL and that the NFL players are closing faster than they did in NCAA and also like you mentioned that he has a lot more information and reading to do down field. I expect, and hope, he regains this ability to feel and react to pressure when things settle down for him.
The thing that stands out - more than his accuracy or arm - is the ability to make pre snap adjustments. I dont know if I ever saw this since I started really paying attention as a Dolphin fan...Saw him make so many changes and then DO SOMETHING with the play that resulted. Certainly never happened with Henne. Theres an excitement for that moment when you say Ryan drop back. It used to be a grimace and a wrenching feeling in the gut when most of our QBs did that.
Yeah, I'm still waiting to see him get comfortable in his transition from pass to run, or pass to scramble while keeping eyes downfield.
What are you supposed to call a guy who has BOTH Brian Hartline and Davone Bess on pace for roughly an 1800 yard and 1100 yard season respectively? Interesting to think what would happen if Michael Egnew can develop into something useful and if Charles Clay would return to his 2011 form. Not to mention getting ANYTHING at all out of the other receivers on the roster.
