As I watched yesterday's game, I marveled at how well Ryan Tannehill and the offensive line were dealing with Cardinals' blitz packages.

But I had no idea it was this good.

That is just ridiculous production from a rookie with 19 college starts.

I realize Arizona was without Darnell Dockett up front. But one player does not a defense make. Arizona is pretty talented. Athletic and physical. They threw a lot at the kid.

    And he handled it.

Tannehill will continue having his ups and downs this season. But yesterday was as exciting a quarterbacking performance as I can remember for the Dolphins. It's hard not to watch yesterday's game and think how good this team can be with years under his belt and weapons at his disposal.

Two decades ago, the scouting report on the Dolphins was that you couldn't blitz their QB, because he'd kill you for it.

This was a step back in that direction.

They handled it well until they didn't anymore. Which sucks. It gives us the look of a team who blows it in the clutch.

This....closing games out is an art form....see the Pats for an example...

some teams now how to do it and some don't.....Miami is still learning how to...

Not that it is a new feeling or anything. When ARZ was driving at the end of the 4th, I just had that feeling, that I always get, that somehow OT is happening. For years I've had trouble believing in this team going down the stretch. Like, 2 minute drills for a game winning FG, needed defensive stops like yesterday, it just seems that more often than not, we don't get the favorable result.

I see that changing with Philbin though. I especially liked his sideline demeanor yesterday, even getting livid at some points.

Besides the two missed assignments on the fumble and the INT, what is your take on this?

Tannehill was also spending a lot of time adjusting the blocking schemes during the pre-snap counts.. Is this something that Philbin brings to the table or Tannehill taking full control of the offense and changing plays/ calls at the line?

They give him the tools to do the job but he's got a lot of responsibility to do it.

If I'm Joe Philbin I would be livid at that Naanee fumble as well. I'd be yelling at Mike Sherman and Ken O'Keefe that if I ever see Legedu Naanee on my football field again, one of you is fired.

Pretty exciting to see a QB who can elude the rush, keep his eyes downfield, and make a play. That play where he stepped out of sack and found Hartline on the sideline gave me a chub.

Well that is what we are right now. We haven't learned to close yet.

I like what Jim Schwartz said last year about his team (paraphrasing). In 2009, they had to learn how to compete. In 2010 they had to learn how to win. In 2011, they started winning.

I think the Dolphins know how to compete. Right now, I think they're more in 'learning how to win' mode.

How is he doing? Would a Chad Henne have the ability to adjust on the fly like Tannehill has shown, or is this more a byproduct of the offense he ran under Sherman??

Well as a for instance, I'm not totally sure he made the correct calls at the line on the overtime interception. But I'm not in position to know that.

Right, but if he had elite talent in the receiving corps, they would've scored so many points yesterday there wouldn't have been a "clutch."

Because we are a team that blows it in the clutch
We have been that team for the last decade (except for chad penningtons year)
As fans we knew if it got close we would blow it
I can't stand stupid play and mistakes causing loses
Excellent efforts get thrown away with theses collapses
How many times are we on the bad end of great games?
    Saints, "miracle in the meadowlands"
Why don't I remember great Miami comebacks recently?
Could just be the pessimist in me but when I told my wife what happened her response "what did you expect it's Miami"

Talk me out of the tree of the same old same old

Teams that have good players are clutch. Teams that don't, aren't. I think what we saw late in the game was the lack of talent catching up with them. How confident were you that the secondary was going to make a play to seal the game yesterday?

The 2008 MNF game against the Jets immediately comes to mind. Last year at the end of the year we were the ones that kept breaking the game open in the 4th quarter I believe.

Well, iirc Henne was good vs the blitz as well.

Difference is, Tannehill tries to exploit a blitz, Henne just wanted the ball out his hand.

That was my point that was penningtons year
We played smart and mistake free with chad at the controls
That season was the only time I remember recently where I had confidence we wouldn't screw the pootch

Last year we couldn't get out of our way until we slapped the chiefs around and Matt Moore was qb

    Playing relatively mistake free

And that's the difference right there.

We turned it over four times yesterday. Twice (I believe) giving Arizona a short field.

In our losses, we are -4, 0 (2 turnovers) and -2. We had zero (+1) against Oakland. We're not good enough in the redzone to overcome a bunch of turnovers. That how you dominate a game on the road and end up losing it close. You don't cash in and you turn it over.

Are you allowed to start threads on here?:tongue2:

I don't get to go to many live games because It involves flights, rooms, rental cars, ect. I live no where near any stadium. I went to this game expecting the Cardinals to man handle our less talented team. Let me say by half time the Cardinal fans around me had very little hope of winning this game. Ryan Tannehill is looking like the piece to build this team around. Have not watched the game on tv yet but being there I felt our D caved in or just ran out of steam in the fourth. We have a future.

Edit : It was @#%$ing HOT. Temperatures in Phoenix have reached at least 100 degrees for 31 consecutive days

    Yeh,

But...god Muck...remember those days...when teams would try and Blitz Marino....and bang...he'd kill em....thats what Tannehill reminded me off yesterday...IN HIS 4th NFL start....god we are two field goals from being 3-1....

Losing sucked yesterday...but....knowing we have our franchise QB IMO....took most of the sting away
