The Cowboys have a serious problem with their O-line. If Jerry Jones called Ireland and offered up Wide Receiver Miles Austin and a first round pick for Jake Long, would you take the deal? We would then have two draft picks in round one, two and three for 2013.

SERIOUSLY!?!?! One of the leagues best T for Austin and a 1st...not enough. We have a plenty of picks next year to address our WR needs. But if we get rid of our franchise player that is protecting our newly aquired franchise QB where would that put us??? There isn't another Jake Long in college football today and we would be posssibly setting up Tannehill for a season full of pressure filled games. Our running game would also tank and we would be stagnant on offense. IMO Jake Long is damn near untradable.

Two first rounders and a player? I like your thinking!!!!

I just think if we are serious about improving this year that Long would be our best blue chip to trade, even though I would hate to lose him...but with a boatload of draft picks we could get draft a younger cheaper LT, and then get the rest of the groceries we need to restock.

Yes, then just sign him back this offseason. Dallas would be nuts to trade for someone with an expiring contract.

Ironically, I was just doing some digging and found some Chicago Bears fans stating there was a rumor they were trying to trade for Jake Long. Honestly, if we could get a 1st and 3rd for him I would take that deal for several reasons:

1.) Its more cost effective to have a Top 10 LT than a Top 3 LT.
2.) Long seems to be getting more injury prone.
3.) He is in a contact year and is going to want a huge payday.
4.) I think his play has dropped off a little bit.

I am not trying to sound like an idiot here, but it looks like we are gearing up to a rebuilding process (trading Vernon Davis, Marshall, etc.) so all the more ammo the better. Think of who we could sign instead of breaking the bank on Long.

    No.

I'd rather re-up Long, using his injuries to leverage his price down. Re-up Reggie.

Then focus the top 5 picks in the first three rounds on the best WR, CB, Safety, DE and LB you can get (no necessarily in that order).

By the way, why in the world haven't we traded McDaniels for a 6th and a bag of Cheetos yet? Is he even on the team anymore?

    Maybe a 5th for Dez.

    Hahahaha

You guys actually are saying no to trading Jake Long for Miles Austin and a 1st round pick. A chance to get a 1st round pick from the Dallas Cowboys, likely a pick near 12-17, plus a viable #1 WR... and you're going to say no.

Even better, you're saying that injury is a concern... for Miles Austin. Guys, this isn't realistic. This is so far from reality it hurts.

FIRST - Jake Long wants to get paid top LT money. We're talking 6 years/90 million/55 guaranteed. No ****.
SECOND - Jake Long has injury concerns. When has he finished a season not banged up/missing time/getting beat then clinging to "Not 100%!" as an excuse?
THIRD - You're fulfilling an absolute area of need with a performer. Injury riddled? He missed 6 games last season. Before that, how many games did he miss due to injury? Here's a hint ITS WAY LESS THAN JAKE LONG.

I'm absolutely stunned and shocked. If that trade offer was made, Ireland accepts it and looks like a flat out master. Jake Long's production simply does not warrant this over the top love fest. Is he a great lineman? Hell yes, yes he is. Is he some sort of infallible warrior that is off-limits for every trade discussion? Hell no. Jake is simply limited by his injuries.

Jason Peters was traded for a 1st round pick... and he's similar to Long. Yes, he is. Look at their production over the past 3 years. So you're saying that Jake Long is worth more than Peters + Austin? Im sorry, I just don't see the logic there. I take that trade all day every day and twice on Sunday.

I'd have to know more than I do about Miles Austin. I have a cursory knowledge of him, little more.

The one thing that does tempt me is if I've felt the agent out and Jake wants way more money than I want to give him this offeseason.

And first round picks do NOT usually turn into Pro Bowl players. Top 5 picks, sure, but mid round? Nope.

No. Why create a question mark on your young franchise QB's blindside for a good but not great WR and some draft picks?

Out of 18 guys on that list, I'd only consider 2 to be in the same talent-tier as Jake Long. That's Ngata and Revis. 2/18. Then there are a bunch more who are good, but not elite. Then about half of them are average at this point.

A mid 1st round pick is NOT an automatic Pro-Bowler. Far from it.

That said, Jake's health has him far underperforming a Pro Bowl level too, so I see your point.

FWIW The Bears would most likely be in the market for a LT.

To even consider trading Long I would want Stud WR/CB 1st round and 4th round picks.

I'd put Derrick Johnson up there in terms of talent. Shawne Merriman, had it not been for his stupidity playing with such a poor injury he would be up there as well.

Regardless, this trade would never happen. Miami would accept a 1st rounder for Jake Long if it were offered right now, simply because of his contract demands. If it were as simple as everyone seems to think it is, wouldn't Miami have even APPROACHED him about extending? They haven't. They've reached out to Starks, Bush... not sure about Smith... but nothing with Long. Not one word.

There has been a lot of speculation in regards to all the money the Dolphins have in cap space after this season. They only have this large amount of cap space because of the number of players on their roster who will be free agents agents after this season. Most notable free agents for the Dolphins are, Long, Bush, Hartline, Smith, and Starks.

The reality is that if the Dolphins decide to sign all these starters to new contracts after the 2012 season. They will probably have very little cap space available to go after any other free agents.

Long is still a quality LT, but his overall play has declined over the last few years as he has continues to suffer injuries. I'm not sure his recent play makes him worth the millions of dollars he will cost the Dolphins to sign him to a new contract after this season. If the Dolphins could trade him for a first round draft pick and an additional quality WR right now, I think they would seriously have to consider the offer. The fact is that they may not believe Long is worth the millions he will be requesting after this season and they could lose him and get nothing in return.

I just don't see the Dolphins being in a position to sign all their top free agents. Unless Long shows that he remains one of the top LT's in the NFL, he just might be one of the players the Dolphins decide let walk in free agency after the season. If the Dolphins do decide to sign Long after this season, I imagine that one or two of their other top free agents will no longer be Dolphins when the 2013 season begins.

No way. I fully understand that Long is in a contract year, and has struggled with injuries. I understand that he'll want to be paid top dollar. You pay it. He's one of the best in the league. To say that we should just get a "top 10" instead of a "top 3" and pay him less is an idea....but how in the world do you then get that guy? IF we move Long, then we then have NOTHING at LT.

We finally, finally have a real player as a rookie at QB. We need to protect him as well as we possibly can. Taking away a great LT in order to get a good-but not great WR is a bonehead move, IMO. Would I trade Long for Andre Johnson? Yeah, probably. Not for a guy who isnt a gamechanger.

If you wanna trade Long here's how you do it. franchise Long or resign him, draft his replacement in the 1st round then trade him. I can't believe anyone is talking about trading his type of talent with no suitable replacement! do you want Tannehill to have broken bones?

We already have Chicago's 3rd from the Marshall deal.

Id take a 1st, 3rd and either Jeremy Maclin or Brandon Graham from Philly. Their OL is complete trash at the tackle spot. Having the NYG, Dallas and Washington in their division theyd probably do it too. Thats Osi, JPP, Tuck, Orakpo, Kerrigan, Ware and Spencer. Thats one less in each of 6 games that they have to worry about. Thats a tremendous value to them. Swing martin back to his natural LT spot, free up more cap space to mold our team how we need to.

Investing 13-14M even in a great LT is not the long term answer imo.

I don't know their cap numbers but I imagine they're hurting. They picked up a lot of players this off season. That's probably why they couldn't sign him and they franchised him. Plus Bowe doesn't want to play there and they probably don't want him there and/or can't pay him. We should have a pretty good chance of getting Bowe as a free agent. He has already verbally expressed interest in coming to Miami.

They is a reason they would let him go in favor of paying others. Its because he has poor character. I doubt that is something Miami wants, nevermind would pay a lot of money for. At least based on what we have seen lately.
