So Stephen Morris > Torretta, Testaverde, Kelly, Kosar, Dorsey, Erickson, Walsh, Mira? Yup. I'm going to bed.
Only thing sweeter would have been this exact finish but next week. Cause you know....screw ND. Morris completes all the low percentage balls you don't expect him to. Now we just need him to complete the easier throws.
It's crazy to me how a guy can hit a receiver in stride 65 yards from where he launched the ball but throw a WR screen clear over his receivers head. Morris averaged 21.7 yards a completion today. Crazy.
Our defense however, easily, not even debatable, worst in college football. Probably worst in college football history. Actually, really probably worst in football history.
Ehh they pissed me off but I wasn't that mad. I knew they sucked coming in. They put their helmet on the ball a few times and made that crucial strip near the goal line. I won't defend them and say they are any good, but at least they kept trying and forced a few mistakes. Though I think NC State, WV and Baylor fans all have equal claims to terrible defense. NC State may rank well (before this game) but that was more a product of who they played I think.
And it starts on the line. Chickillo is nice but shouldn't be the best lineman as a true soph. A ****ty line makes your secondary look bad. I do, however, love our LB core when healthy.
Although he's not a Juco prospect, Keith Bryant is a bad man. And I still like Earl Moore...but he's just a true freshman.
Another great game. The defense is all over the board at times but Eddie Johnson is starting to come into his own. Will be glad when Perryman gets back.
Indeed! Not as good at the begining of the season but the last two games and especially this one, he was stellar! Those burners just turn on the jets and let Morris wing it. Dude has a serious arm as well.
They're also the second youngest team in the country according to Dan Sileo. Too much vanilla crap for me though. I can't take seeing the Db's playing off 10 yards when in Miami it's supposed to be up in your face....
Whatever it is, I've already seen enough. A lot of it is youth, or especially in the case of the D-Line, just not enough talent. But the scheme is pretty bad too, and the corners always playing off is one of the bigger reasons. Our zone defense is the worst. Seems like on every zone play there's at least one person out of position. You could probably attribute much of that to youth, but then you see 5th year senior Vaughn Telemaque play some of the worst zone defense you've ever seen, leaving guys by themselves on an island for TD's. It seems pretty clear to me they want to run a lot of 3-4, but just don't have the pieces yet. They ran a hybrid at Temple, and both Golden and Ohnofrio coached defense under Al Groh who runs a 3-4. You can tell by the types of players they've been recruiting. McCord and Gabe Terry are prototypical 3-4 OLB types, as is Matthew Thomas. Guys like Ivery and Briscoe as NT's. Etc.
Virginia Tech lost to Cincy. Georgia Tech got blown out by Middle Tennesee State. UVA got beat by Louisiana Tech. SMH at the ACC.
Both sides of the ball need to bring their A game against ND. We don't need to see a repeat of K-State. One thing is for sure, if we find a way to pull the upset the hype machine will be turned on to full blast.
Looks like we are starting to make a ripple with the AP rankings headed into the Notre Dame game. Go 'Canes!
Notre Dame is beatable. Their offense is bad, which matches our bad defense. Their defense is legit, and matches up with our legit offense. Hopefully our defense can finally get a stop or 2 and we can pull out of there with a win.
That's my general feeling as well. If we can put up some points I don't think their offense can keep up. The issue being that their defense is really really good and putting up points will be tough.
Maybe but their front seven is extremely stout. Our guys up front will need to wear their big-boy pants to the game if we have any shot of winning.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...n-notre-dame-um-1002-20121001,0,285435.column I love Jimmy Johnson..... Instead of worrying about this game I'm going to get excited for it. Screw ND they always get hype until the inevitable crash and burn. As JJ said they didn't even beat us, we were 4-0 with an asterisk. Saturday we find out what happens when a ****ing midget leprechaun gets caught in a category five.
Still one of the biggest ref screw jobs of all time. Much, much worse than the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. **** Notre Dame.
I went on one ND message board and while some of them were nice and wanted to talk about the match-up, most were ***-hats who didn't know a thing about our team. Everything from not the usual trash talk calling us "thugs" (I can't name a guy on this team who plays like a thug) to saying the score would be 49-6. Also downing our offensive line....just making it obvious they haven't seen us play. They had the JJ article posted as well and were screaming that they got screwed the year before but no-one cared.
This is what scares me (nd fan). The secondary has a ton of injuries, and most of the starters are young and/or were recruited for different positions. They worry me, and haven't been tested. The offense on the flip side is better than shown so far. I think Golston will have a short leash, and we were without our thousand yard rusher in the beginning of the year. If we can run the ball, I think the offense can do some damage. Hard for me to trust this ND team, so nothing would surprise me.
