Philbin was here and Ireland signed him after Philbin was hired, he didn't provide any benefit and was cut by the coach . We had what you described in the post I replied to .

It's worth $700k to get Naanee off the field on game day.

Of course it's a mark against Ireland, but moving forward, your not gonna always hit..it's good to have that open relationship and ability to lessen your power for what the coach wants.

its good and bad on Ireland. bad that he signed him in the first place and good that he acknowledges it was bad and moving on.

id say the grade favors the worse side...he's got to be able to project talent, it's his job..at the end of the year, well put it all together.

Naanee was never signed to be "The Guy"

He was signed because of his great athletic numbers (see his combine) and the fact that he was a cheap option. He rose on the depth chart because he was a pro-bowl practice player. Unfortunately he can't convert that into games.

It's silly to call him a "poor signing" because at his salary he was only ever meant to compete for a roster spot.

I'm willing to bet ThePhins members could have run the free agency period this year better than Ireland. I mean, what a waste of resources!

Poor Marcus Thigpen. The forgotten free agent.

Luckily the team managed to find Javorskie Lane thanks to Sherman and did alright with the undrafted players cause it looks like Samuda and Shelby might be a solid guys.

Now hopefully Armstrong (not technically a free agent...since he was picked on waivers) steps up cause that would give Tanny 2 more targets he really hasn't had yet which should make it less predictable where the ball is going.

I'd doubt that...only cause we'd have to know the budget we were working with..god knows this forum would make ridiculous trades like they could happen and just assume some players would sign here over others. There must have been some serious budget constraints when Marshall was the biggest deal and that was even conservative considering the state of free agency.

Damn. In his defense he says his Twitter was hacked.....but those tweets look like drunken truth to me

I bet if L. Shepard saw that he was like "wtf?"

Ah I just read Lito is his first cousin.

Though he made some tweets after saying he and Lito are cool, he loves him and such.

    My predicted Oman tweet

EDIT: Typo there on Omar but I think I just came up with a good nickname for him. "O-man" as in "O-man I have to read another tweet by Omar Kelly"

If that injury is still nagging him I wouldn't expect much early on, but I still like the signing. A veteran presence in that group is good for the young guys as well.

I also would like to see Armstrong get more of a chance to make some plays down the field.

We're talking about veteran free agents. Guys that have been in the NFL. I don't see why that's so hard for you to understand.

Everyone in the world is technically a free agent. You and I are free agents.

So, of the 9 guys who've actually, you know, been on NFL rosters before, only 1 that was signed this past offseason is still here.

Congrats to Jeff Ireland for signing Thigpen and Lane.

I don't see the benefit in making a priority of going after as many free agents as possible. Redskins come to mind or last years Eagles when I hear this thinking process. Trying to out spend other teams in order to get more free agents than team x is just a money pit. Trying to fill a gap or two in free agents sounds smarter than a free for all in free agency.

Edit: As for the Redskins that's not Shanahan that's older Redskins.

I'm not advocating going after as many as possible. If the point was to add depth, however, it was a failure.

It looks as if they are working hard at setting next season up for success maintaining picks and cap room. Maybe just my opinion or hopes. I don't know of hardly any free agents that where a sure upgrade worth the money this last off season just to many risky ones from injury or age. Most teams don't let the good ones loose if they are worth the money.

The problem is that they have decisions to make regarding three free agents. Long, Hartline and Sean Smith are all unrestricted in 2013. So while it appears there's a lot of cap room, in actuality there isn't. Assuming the Dolphins sign all three of those guys (which isn't a slam dunk but let's assume they do) they probably only have room for a couple big signings.

EDIT: Actually they could franchise tag Long next year. Koa Misi is unrestricted.
