A Thread I Started on Brian Hartline Just After He was Drafted

If Hartline had been a 2nd round pick, and had the same first three years production, I don't believe people's views would be that much different at all. I think the people on this forum put more stock into Pro- production rather than draft status, 40 time, or madden ratings.

This is the same board that basically anointed Donald Thomas (6th round pick) the next Steve Hutchinson after about 5 quality games. Obviously that was regardless of Draft Status

With the Packers and Jordy Nelson it was different because they weren't desperate at WR or starved for winning, so their fans probably treated as finding a twenty in your jeans pocket. "Oh look, we have another really awesome receiver....great!" Had he panned out, awesome. Had he not, oh well. Had he been a 35 reception per year guy....I'll take it.

And FTR, I think that the QB and agressive offense could catapult Hartline into having a great season and really good career pending health and QB development

If that's true, then none of those people should expect anything less from Brian Hartline in comparison to Jordy Nelson on the basis of where they were drafted.

Now, do you think that's the case? :shifty:

This assumes there's no valid basis to say that Brian Hartline is any worse a player than Jordy Nelson. Bad assumption.

No it doesn't, because I said, "on the basis of where they were drafted."

We've now started making posts about our own posts about players. Forums tend to devolve into personality driven self-indulgent back-pat exchanges. You see it when a poster starts a thread (as has happened before) talking about their thoughts on something as if we're supposed to thank them for gracing us with their presence (this does not include the breakdowns and notes threads that are meat and potatoes football). The faster we realize no one cares, the better this forum can be.

But seriously, what's the point of this thread again? Essentially what is being said is that Hartline was underestimated (except by you of course) and us plebeians should realize that what he's doing is what he was always capable of. We should get a shrink in here to analyze this thread.

I've always been anti Quinn... The hardest flaw for a QB to overcome?? Accuracy, and guy never had it. Ofcourse I didn't know Ginn would be so average of a WR, but Atlleast he pee pee'd all over the Jets twice and Revis.

You have no idea how ironic the last sentence of your post is.

I think Shou is a trained shrink.

    Am I wrong?

Regarding Hartline, I recall liking his technique, always felt he was sneaky fast, and agree that his QB impacted his numbers. But I still didn't think he was worth more than a 4th. I just hoped his upside actually showed on the field in the NFL.

Well, it has. Let's hope he can keep it up. Gaffney will get some of Hart's targets though.

Though I find it hard to justify Ginn Jr over Willis. Franchise MLB or a return guy.

Moot. Doubt the offensive minded Cameron was ever going to go LB, the options were basically Ginn-Quinn,...and we won that battle.

    It's lense.
Second, the OP isn't exactly going on a limb. A fan of Ohio State said Brian Hartline won't be an all world receiver but he'll be good, better than his 4th round selection might make you think. Okay.

I've been a Hartline fan since his rookie season. Whenever he was able to get on the field, he showed me tremendous body language and concentration. Strong routes. Poor YAC.

Now, the guy who called Tom Brady above... THAT was a beautiful call. Wow.

I do too. He was repeating something about a few NFL personnel men had Hartline graded as high as the 2nd round.

Well like I said in the post I pulled up, Anthony Gonzalez was a first-round pick, and the only real difference between he and Hartline was that Gonzalez ran in the 4.4 range at the combine. Their production at Ohio State, sans the influence of an atrociously bad true freshman passer who led an offense with virtually no passing game, was very similar. That to me makes Hartline a 2nd-round talent. I think he slid because he became an afterthought when he didn't produce much as a senior and sort of "disappeared" off of people's radar.

but I did tell you so... & continued to tell you so... that Hartline had everything to be a all-pro quality starter @ WR.
    now it's happened!

Actually I've been fairly down on Brian Hartline between when he was drafted and the present time. However, when I see Jordy Nelson take three years to develop, see Brian Hartline take three years to develop into a very similar receiver, and then realize that Hartline could've very well been the 2nd-round selection Jordy Nelson was, I start to revamp my perceptions, hence this thread, which essentially explains why perhaps Hartline wasn't a 2nd-round selection but could've been.

Well let me make a post right now that 10 years from now I can dig up as an "I told you so post".

Ryan Tannehill is a superstar in the making, so much so that in 10 years time he will be known as Superstar Ryan Tannehill and will have run out of fingers for superbowl rings. He will also have bedded much hotter women and models than Tom Brady much to his wife's chagrin.

I suspect you're speaking in jest, but let me just say that frankly there's no way an "I told you so" post has any meaning or relevance in a forum whose posts could be printed in their entirety and fail to garner even twenty-five cents on the open market.

It's actually ironic (and somewhat arrogant) to think someone would be driven to say "I told you so" when 1) no one here is a mind-reader, so nobody really knows, and 2) an "I told you so" is essentially worthless for the reason I mentioned above.

I mean come on, let's take this a little less seriously. I suspect the people who are viewing this as an "I told you so" are projecting something of themselves, since there is no inherent value in "telling you so" here.

I had a job to do early this week, and by the time I had time to re-watch the game, the game was already analyzed to death.
