Lombardi is impressed by our team, says that we're a " good one and three team, and the bengals will have a hard time handling our front 7, thinks we will win.. Ladain Thomlinson says that" he really likes the way Ryan Tannehill plays.. Kurt Warner says that he believes Ryan has played better than all the other rookie qbs, " which included RG3 and Andrew Luck... Wow.. Not sure if I've ever seen a 1 and 3 team have more respect from around the eagle, Shlereth the other day saying how tough we are.
It is nice to see that these individuals think highly of Tanneyhill. I think he has certainly played to a much higher level than many people, (including me), thought he would in his rookie season. Of course, as Reggie Bush stated, the NFL is all about wins and losses and right now the Dolphins are 1-3. Win today and next week and the Dolphins will deserve the praise these individuals are giving them. If the Dolphins should lose today, I guess these same individuals will be saying the Dolphins are the best 1-4 team in the NFL.
Eh, careful of praise there Deej. All this means is we are doing things the way "they" think we should do them.
It's a big game for the dolphins, if they win, they will gain a lot of respect, their undermanned though, it's gonna be hard for the secondary to hold up against this team..
Yeah, the Phins are getting alot of rep from the National Media which is very encouraging. Living in Tn, I get very little in-depth Dolphin coverage and rarely get to watch a game unless its primtime. (The local station did cut in to let me watch us miss the winning field goal and lose to the JETS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH). I get most of my information/opinions here which is great since WE HAVE SOME OF THE BEST ON THE NET for football analysis. I am always optimistic, but I kinda feel "bonafied" optimistic now.
DJ you mean unlike a four year starter in NY that can't complete 50% of his passes??? Got to admit, the rookie is performing better than most have thought, after all he had only 16 college games as a starter...
How is "you are what your record says you are" suddenly invalid? The only team out there that gets to claim they aren't what their record says is IMO the Packers.
My view is that the secondary is the major problem on the team right other. Except possibly for the fact Carpenter can't make a FG over 45 yards anymore. Unfortunately I see the Bengals having a big day in the passing game today. Carroll is below average when he is healthy, and he isn't 100% healthy right now. Wilson has been a major disappointment this year and the only other CB on the active roster this week was signed off the practice squad earlier in the week. At safety, Clemons has played below average. Jones has played alright so far this season, but he is merely adequate, as far as I am concerned. Smith has played great at times, but as he did on the last TD by the Cardinals last week. He fails to make the big play when the game is on the line. I think if the Dolphins can make a major upgrade to their secondary in the off season and sign their own top free agents, they could be a playoff contender in 2013. Until the Dolphins upgrade their secondary, they will remain a team that plays just well enough to lose most of their games.
It wasn't my intent to imply that, as much as to point out, that the story kinda does. Having said that, I don't think we are truly as bad as our record states, but it is what it is.
I don't believe in that phrase, especially with as much film that some of us especially you, watch. The giants did not have the potential of a 9 and 7 team..
It was the same last year. Because we are a tough, physical team and we blow a chance to win every close game we're in, we're a "much better than our record indicates". But, we are not. The Dolphins continue to make errors and execute poorly throughout the entire game, particularly in crunch time to win NFL games. Whether it's Dan Carpenter, Chad Henne, Sean Smith, Reshad Jones, Brandon Marshall, et al. On our team or off, since 2009 it's been that way. I like what I've seen from Tannehill. However, we aren't a good team. Matter of factly, we are one of the worst teams. Until the Dolphins start coming away with victories rather moral ones, it will stay that way.
I agree that we need better play in the secondary, I don't think they've been costing us games however. The defense has played well all year, they're impossible to run on and while the passing yds allowed are high, opponents passer rating allowed is 7th in the league. Teams are passing a lot b/c they can't move our front 7 but they are not being overly efficient with it. For the last two weeks it has been turnovers by the offense, missed FGs, and the inability to hold leads that have been the biggest issues IMO. Even vs Houston, it was 6 minutes from hell (4 TOs) that turned was a close game into a rout. If we can run (Cincy has the worst YPC avg in the league) well and protect the ball, I think we'll be OK.
Eh, the Saints are a bad football team. For as great as that offense gas shown it can be, it's been stymied throughout most games. They get a ton or catch up scores in the 4th quarter. More importantly, they have a very difficult time keeping up with their historically bad defense.
I am of the opinion that New Orleans is bad because they really miss their HC. Green Bay has lost a few steps because WE HAVE THEIR OC.
Damn spell check on an iPad doc.. Not drinking yet, usually don't drink a lot for games, unless I'm going.
If we run the ball well, we can hang with any team regardless of the firepower they have. We just need some timely stops on D. Run ball and slow the game down but speed the clock up. Take the ball away from the high powered offense. We have been in every game so far, even Houston was having fits till the turnover time happened. I dont expect playoffs, but we are not as bad as some think.
The problem is that the secondary never seems to make the plays to win a game in the fourth quarter. They play well for much of the game, but they collapse when the game is on the line. That is the problem the secondary has had this season, as well as in recent years. Hopefully they can turn it around today, but until I see them make a play to win the game in the final minutes, I just don't have a lot of faith in that group.
I consider this a rebuilding season with a rookie QB & new coaching cadre & systems I am delighted @ our new attitude on the field & competitive spirit. who could ask for more? this team with today's win is progressing beyond expectation. haven't been so happy since the Shula era! this will be a very entertaining season & next year we'll be serious contenders
And the Dolphins! duh! lol unless you don't think that. I don't see how anyone can watch every game and not think that. If we had a different kicker we would have a different record. We played good enough to be 4-1 but the kicker failed us. Hems not the only one that failed us but he is the only one that absolutely changed the outcome of our losses that could and should be wins.
these clowns eisen, mariucci, faulk, sapp, irvin , warner all said "upset alert special" when they picked our game but still all of them said the bengals will win....
I've never believed the "you are what your record says" saying. IMO Your record says what you were, not what you are. I believe you have to watch film, and characterize whether past failures and success were the result of bad or good luck, if past errors are likely or easily corrected, if successes are likely to continue, etc. Only then can you figure out what you are.
