I think we have reached a point to try out kickers to replace Carpenter. Missing field goals is a turnover and they are brutal. Carp either needs to feel the heat of competition for his position or needs to move on. Consistency is needed at every position, especially kicker. I would feel more comfortable with John Kasey at this point.
1. Ryan Longwell 2. John Kasay 3. Josh Brown 4. Neil Rackers 5. Graham Gano 6. Olindo Mare 7. Dave Rayner 8. David Buehler 9. Danny Hrapmann 10. Garrett Lindholm
Which of those kickers is automatic from 45 and out? None. Can we all calm down a bit and have a little perspective?
Are you so short sighted to think it is about just today's missed FG? You might wasn't to look decor into his stats. It isn't about just today. Think before you type.
He is 11 for 27 on 45+ yard kicks since last season..... come on now that is bad. Get the rams old kicker josh brown, we replaced him for the amazing rookie we stole in the 6th round who has yet to miss and hit a 74 yarder in practice. I say next years draft look for a kicker, because it seems every teams rookies this year are killing it. (Vikings, ravens, and rams)
Its a moot point. His contract makes cutting him too much dead cap money. Best thing to do is to try and get him straightened out.
47, 48, 53... are his misses IIRC! So Yes! Get Real. Those are not gimmes, and he has made 5 from shorter range according to the stats. He is NOT hooking 30s, and short 40s. So cut out the knee jerk nonsense!
Without his misses this team is likely 4-1 right now instead of 2-3. Take that however you want to take it..
But all kickers miss. No kicker is perfect. This team is 2-3 because they have played well enough for 2-3. Both the offence and the defence had opportunities to win 2 more games, but they didn't come through. Team wins and team losses.
GZ of the rams has never missed in his career haha (I know its been 5 games dammit haha but I want to seem like he is amazing)
The coach needs to know this guy can't make long field goals anymore and punt the ****ing ball and play field postion.Thats 3 weeks in row a missed field goal changed momentum for us.
And if Tannehill doesn't turn the ball over as much as he has they're also 4-1 and maybe 5-0, but no one is calling for another QB to be brought in. Why? Because expecting a rookie QB to not have those kind of mistakes is shortsighted. So is expecting a kicker to be automatic from 47 yards plus. There aren't any kickers on the street who are either or they wouldn't be on the street. The two misses against the Jets hurt. But because he's missed 2 from 50 plus last week and this week does not mean he should be let go. If he had missed his first kick as well I would not completely blame fans for wanting him gone. But he made that one (which also was far from a gimme).
I think some are way too quick to want to kick someone to the curb. Carp is in a cold spell. I'm confident he'll rebound.
I think he knows that. I have a gut feeling that they went for it on 4th & 1 because they were too close to punt and they didn't trust Carpenter to make the kick. IMO if you have to playcall to avoid attempting a makable field goal then its time to replace the kicker.
We had a kid at Southern Ms last year that was nominated for the best kicker in college his junior year. Like Walsh from Georgia, he had a letdown his senior year. Hrapman I believe is how you spell his name. He kicked well for the Steelers in preseason and their media guys felt like he might get a shot soon. Just a thought. I don't believe Carpenter will be cut however.
I don't see where any of those guys on the street are as good as or better than Carpenter. There is no doubt though the guy has been in a slump since last year, however his misses have not been what one would think of as automatic. I think we're better off staying the course with Carpenter this year. If he improves and gets his groove back, great! If not we're shopping in the offseason.
