The best player on the team is Wake, no ifs, ands or buts about it. I'd rather keep Starks than Long if we cannot afford both. After Martin moves to LT, Jerry could move to RT, and finding a decent RG is the easiest position to fill on the line. Heck, even Josh Samuda may make a push to start there under this scenario.
Jonathan Martin isn't a demonstrably viable Right Tackle long term, much less Left Tackle in an offense that is likely to go increasingly pass and spread oriented.
Be that as it may, if Long isn't resigned, Martin is the most likely candidate to be the next starting LT. As others have said, he looks more natural on the left side anyway.
Gafney will be the next playmanker at WR that this team is lacking currently... As the season progresses and Gafney and Thill get familiar with themselves, this teams will improve its ability to score in the Red Zone via the pass... He will allow others to become targets in the Red Zone as well...
I think it's much more likely if they have any questions about it, they franchise Long and table it until the 2014 off-season.
I doubt we make much noise in free agency. Most of that cap space will probably go to re-signing our own free agents.
The franchise tag for Jake Long would cost like $15+ million. It would suck if they have to do that. Wouldn't be a surprise, but it would suck and I wouldn't agree with it. I think Desides is right. The more you crunch the numbers the more it looks like there will be no major outside free agent acquisitions.
This is where we're at on Jabar Gaffney--a playmaker? Really? Definitely looks that way. We should expect a free agent season more along the lines of the one we just had, though hopefully with more than one player who actually contributes.
Gaffney is a serviceable receiver in the best conditions but these are not the best conditions as he's coming off an injury, is bound at some point to get and have to fight through the same "camp legs" that Brian Hartline talked about getting about a week before the season started, and doesn't know the offense. It's really difficult to say what we should expect out of him.
I agree we might have to go thru some pains with Gaf...but he's got good hands so I'm hopin that doesn't fail him.
It's tough. We had high hopes for Armstrong too but he can't seem to catch a football. Putting these guys under the strain of having to cram a playbook into their heads in a short time period can do funny things to players.
True, but if he's targeted like 3 times in 4 games but catches the ball instead of fumbling or causing an int, then its a upgrade at this point.
He is either a first rate moron (can't figure out anything about our offense) or Philbin is really stubborn, requiring players to know the entire offense before they play. I have to think he is better than whatever else we throw out there in 3-wide, even if the guy doesn't know the offense.
Not good, since he could've been part of the "security blanket" type of passing game I think is best to employ for Ryan Tannehill this particular week.
I'm thinking it's Philbin. Part of the reason Egnew and Mathews are inactive. Also shows why DT was still getting carries over Lamar.
I doubt it's Philbin. If so then how did Armstrong play the first week after he was signed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't get it either. You would think they'd give him 20 plays to know and at the very least use him on 3rd Downs. Maybe the no huddle, audible option route offense is just a little more complicated than we think. Now if he's not out there after the bye then somethings up.
Well Armstrong was thrown in the game in a shorter window than Gaffney.Perhaps tey dont want to comit the same mistake.
That's exactly what it is, per Volin this morning. It's the reason Lamar Miller hasn't seen much time. To gain their trust, you've got to know everything that might be asked if you. - sent from my Android device via Tapatalk -
Judging by the way Marlon Moore is playing they probably thought he was a better option at No 3 WR than Gaffney at least at this stage.
Did you guys see that play Gaffney made? It was unreal. Never seen anything like it. Thought I was dreaming.
On Philbin's Sirius interview this week he said that they were uncertain on playing Gaffney. Looks like it was more of a certaintity.
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said the No. 3 spot is up for grabs, while offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said he was, "reluctant on Gaffney,'' because rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill makes so many last-minute checks or audibles that his receivers need to be on the same page. "I was a little nervous because putting a receiver out there that hadn't been out there with the quarterback, and everybody is coming at Ryan in all different shapes and forms, and I didn't want someone that he wasn't 100 percent sure of what he was going to do all the time,'' Sherman said. "It's not Gaffney's fault because he just got here. "I was a little reluctant on Gaffney. We're going to work with him this week and hopefully get him ready to go [for the Jets].'' http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/20...-coach-joe-philbin-jabar-gaffney-marlon-moore
