That isn't exactly true. He always had the athleticism to rush the passer. He was a highly touted pass rusher coming to UM. The issue is Randy Shannon had a staff that couldn't develop a picture let alone a football player and Olivier never added any pass rush moves.

Vernon's development will be fun to watch. If he becomes the guy at one of those end spots, well that's just another benefit to the team.

In all fairness to CK, he's stated that Vernon is not a classic rush DE in Wake's mold. Vernon has a high motor and in blitz situations he can certainly sack the QB.

He is so inexperienced, it is really hard to know how good he can or cannot be yet. I don't think we can logically say either way. He has the skill set and the motor. He is still a work in progress.

it would be nice to see him shore up the other DE/passrush position. one less thing to worry about during the offseason

I think next season is where we see the improvement and the growing up on this team. and especially the very important draft that is for another thread.

Gholston could also do a power rush and it's not like you can say a motor stopped him on every play of his career. There's more to Gholston than motor and strength/speed. It needs a lot of development but if he can stop the run he'll get time to play. Odrick isn't impressing me on that edge as much as he was before on run downs, although inside he's exceptional.

Perhaps we'll see Shelby get in on the act along with Vernon instead of a heavy end.

Tanny won that game. When running game has a no show and rookie QB plays solid then we are in good place.

Well if Shelby become your rotational guy instead of say Trusnik the need goes from a 1st round need to say a 4th rounder. That's a very big deal.

Funny how Rams fans were talking how "Legatron" would beat us by himself. So much for that. Great game by Tannehill, go Phins.

Having watched his entire career at UM...literally every game he played, I was thrilled when we drafted him. With proper coaching he was, in my eyes, a guy with the pure football instincts and athleticism to be a first round pick.

The issue to me was how receptive he could be to coaching.

Usually with a passrusher, as long as they have good physical numbers if they can keep themselves alive during a play they will wind up with sacks.

Congrats fins fans y'all won and in the end that's all that matters. I'm shocked our offense exploded for so many yards and it looks like my savior kicker cost us haha o well guess he is human. The distance was good haha just not the angle. I think we can all agree he breaks the NFL record soon enough. Either way great game

I keep saying that these guys just dont know how to win… I still feel that way but maybe we are starting to see baby steps in the right direction. I think you are right in that next year is when we should see a big leap forward if these guy pan out

Cameron Wake looked like that type of guy when he was younger as well. It'll take time for him but even now he's giving you production.

You think they made it a point of emphasis to stay in-bounds in the 4th quarter when ahead?

He doesn't quite have Wake's athleticism, but he shares some other qualities like balance and strength and ankle flexion,

As long as he learns how to bend the edge he will develop
