http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/page/2/ "According to Jarrett Bell of USA Today, the league’s Super Bowl Advisory Committee will recommend New Orleans and Miami as potential hosts of Super Bowl L (or 50 if you’re sufficiently removed from third grade and have forgotten your Roman numerals)." Thought we weren't gonna get one til we upgraded?
Goodell, "Ross, you have 4 years to build that water park on top of the roof on top of the gigantic flat screen that's bigger than Dallas', with a special watch tower so that Jeff Ireland can get away from all the a*sholes."
I expect they'll move the lower bowl seats closer soon anyway. Then maybe do the half-roof thing to cover the seats but keep the field exposed. Maybe they'll actually announce something soon to get it known before the vote.
Nope. Its down to miami and the new niners stadium in Santa Clara. Unless we promise major renovations Santa Clara wins this easily. The NFL loves new stadiums, amd rightfully so
This was an interesting twist. Perhaps some owners thought it was too soon for New Orleans to get Super Bowl 50 after getting this year's game. They have stated they want to put 50 in a location with a lot of Super Bowl history, but it sounds to me like they're basically putting the screws to Ross to upgrade the stadium. Since they apparently won't make the final decision until 2013, I'm guessing they're giving him time to get a concrete plan and financing in order. The problem is going to be the financing. They're already tried to get a hotel tax passed, and that met with a lot of resistance. Ross may have to foot a good portion of this bill himself and I smell some heavy bargaining upcoming, especially since Ross has already proclaimed how much he wants the game.
Damn, now you got me a lil excited about conditions of the contract pending renovations. Lets put pressure on the them to upgrade..we need it, and if your trying to do something special in this town Mr Ross, then get on it, and blow us away.. Personally I wouldn't upgrade the current one for 250 or more million...spend 750 and do it right..OB2.
Well Pauly, if they lose its their own freakin fault..they've been talkin about it for two years and haven't done jack.. Lol, it's really quite mind boggling, how do you not take the threats of the league office seriously knowing how much money your costing the local economy...crunch the damn numbers and be smart. based on that there might be conditions.
Owner Net Worth Stephen Ross 4.4 billion Gloria Estefan 700 million Serena Williams 100 million Venus Williams 60 million Marc Anthony 40 million Total: 5.3 Billion Dollars Cost of New Stadium 750 million to 1 billion Make it happen Ross and celebrity co.! also, it's worth noting Jimmy Buffett is worth 400 million so.. if you want us to keep your dang fight song Jimmy, how about dropping 50 million on a new stadium? whats the point in bringing in celebrity owners if they don't wanna throw their weight/money around? At the very least, get them involved in the campaign of asking south floridian's for money!
There is not much in Santa Clara in terms of "atmosphere," so if it comes down to partying, we have this won.....but if they are just looking at the stadium than a new one there will always beat Sun Life.
Re: Super Bowl 50 down to Miami or New Orleans. OT but if & when they have a SB in Santa Clara, I'm going if I can afford it since I live in Santa Clara County & watch our beloved Phins win a SB. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I think Goodell also said that the loser of 50 would also get a shot at 51 against NOLA. My thinking is this is a no-brainer. Santa Clara will win this hands down. We do have a shot at 51 however and it gives us another year to get those renovations done. Get working Mr. Ross, "get 'er done" !
Well as much as we don't want to admit it, our stadium is now one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL and is badly outdated. Is the fan noise problem fixable in this stadium or should we scrap the whole place and build a new one (probably in Broward County) ? Since the Dade County taxpayers have paid for Marlins Park, now its the Broward faithful's turn.
It's less than an hour from San Fran; it will dominate as to stadium quality; a great area in general; dry weather (even if it is cool it is comfortable); plus there are a ton of great golf courses; and a night club is a night club. The only hope Miami gets it is if Ross gets everything in place (design; financing; etc.) by the time the decision is made. Very unlikely to happen. Frankly, I am tired of New Orleans getting it. That stadium is as bad as Miami's for field proximity; it's a dome (I hate domes; every NFL fan should hate domes); and it's just tiring. It doesn't offer much weather wise that time of year either.
I care more that the Dolphins get to play in it (and win it) then where it is held. They could hold it in freakin Maine for all I care.
If I'm Ross, I put up some $$, and raise the rest through private interests ..... then enjoy the benefits of the upgrade! Such changes would mean many more SB's for one, and it'd be better for Phin games too, of course. He has the money, for Christ's sake, get it done already! And to top it off, he'd get a HUGE PR boost in SoFla - I'm guessing most people would really start respecting him and give him a break!
Everyone who goes to the Super Bowl reguarly (NFL people, media, etc.) says they wish the Super Bowl could be in New Orleans every year. You can walk from your hotel to the game and all the parties. You don't have to deal with traffic or rent a car. And don't get me started on the food and bars. You may be sick of New Orleans, but the people who actually ATTEND the game can't get enough of it.
Santa Clara has no Super Bowl history. They've never hosted the 49ers before this new stadium deal. "Net worth" is not "cash on hand". The individuals you named do not have $5.3 billion dollars in their wallets. Ross had to get a loan and pay Huizenga in three installments to buy the team, for crying out loud.
I realize that, but supposedly the league's rumored preference is to give it to a city with a SB history. From what I've also read, apparently the mayors of the surrounding communities wrote a joint letter to Goodall asking him to consider giving the game to Miami. My belief is that the owners agreed to hold that carrot out for Ross, and are giving him until next May (when they'll announce the winner) to secure some type of financing for upgrades. Failing that, they'll give it to Santa Clara.
I don't believe the issue is one of whether it positively impacts the economy- there's enough studies that strongly suggest it does. The controversy tends to lie in how much of a positive economic impact hosting a Super Bowl really has.
I wish we could form some sort of committee to help Ross understand the kind of logic your talking about, and how a new one, built the right way, like a campaign for the OB2, would be cost effective and self profitable..ESPECIALLY if he's contemplating renovations.. If we get denied because of our stadium, I'm gonna be pissed off, I've been talking about the ramifications and economic blow it would mean.. If this happens, Ross has got some serious explaining to do.
Why would you wanna stop it?, of course it can be done, if we lose out on a Super Bowl because of how pathetic sun life is, it needs to be a story, and blueprints and plans need to be in place to fix the problem.. Let me ask you this, if he comes out and says we have to renovate, you don't think as a business person, he should think about a new one?, and if he does that, then you wouldn't be happy with a major local campaign to try and build to spec a similar model in the tradition that ties two programs to a building? Shoot, if it comes to that we all better join the OB2 committee.
c'mon I know net worth isn't cash on hand. Even if it was, can you imagine paying 1/5 of your cash on hand for a new stadium? It was supposed to be mostly a joke. I'm just saying a new stadium doesn't necessarily have to be ALL on the taxpayers
I actually live less than 10 minutes driving from the Niners new stadium. It is being built next to a huge theme park and is minutes from downtown San Jose, and about a hour from San Francisco up either 101 or 280. There is plenty to do despite what others may say.
