I understand depth and the need for it but really...?

    PG: Felton (28) Kidd (39) Prigoni (35)
    SG: Iman (21) Brewer (27) JR (27)
    SF: Melo (28) Novak (29)
    PF: Amare (29) Sheed (38)
    C: Chandler (30) Camby (38) Thomas (40)

Those 13 spots are sewed up. We are OLD on the bench anyway. Last year down the stretch we were banged up so I had the feeling we might go for veteran depth over developmental youth. I like what we have but I actually have high hopes for a few of the fringe guys being contributors down the road, particularly Mychal Thompson, whose dad was pretty damn good as is his brother Klay. Mychal always kicked Klay's *** 1-1 so while hes not the shooter Klay is hes tougher and more athletic. I also like Henry Sims. Hes not the next great Georgetown Center but he can be a decent back up. He can play with his back to the basket and can pass out of the post. At least 1 of those two needs to make the roster with the other in the D league. James White is a super athletic darkhorse but hes always had kind of a prickish attitude.

    Bright side:

Brewer and Novak are two rotation players that will play minutes and both are good players. Camby at 10 minutes a game is fine except against Miami, Indiana and Chicago.

    Dark Side:

    The rest of the bench.

I can't wait to start our title defense. I have a feeling this team is going to be among one of the best we see in the big three era. As long as they don't stop working hard we still have all the pieces. Hopefully we see a healthy team this year, especially Wade. We have more games but also more rest between, so I think it should help out.

My prediction for the finals barring key injuries:

    Miami vs OKC: The Sequel

I think OKC beats LA in the WCF to get there.

I dont really have a problem with JR Smith either as a reserve. He just cant be a starter like he was vs Miami after 21 Shump Street went down and Lin was being too much of a wimp to play. Off the bench for 15-20 minutes a night he'll play hard and either ignite you with some buckets or get benched right away. No different then many other bench scorers.

He's the kind of guy you need a smart coach to take advantage of. If he's having a bad shooting night (or even average) he can be more harm than good because of the fact that he's a volume shooter.

Not a bad guy to have if you trust your coach.

I'm not a fan of JR Smith, but he did compete hard in the 1st round vs. Miami, and that tells you something.

His problem is that he shoots waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

In my opinion he'd be perfect on a hard nosed defensive team that had offensive issues to begin with. That way when he struggles it isn't the worst thing, and when he lights it up on occasion it's a huge boost.

Surprised there hasn't been any preseason discussion. My 76ers looking pretty good without Bynum. I still have no idea whatsoever what Section was thinking by seeing losing Lou Williams as a loss. Nick Young is at least everything Lou Williams is, except he can actually hit a 3 pointer. He's been our best player through 3 preseason games easily.

Lou Williams is a better player.

Not even close. Lou Williams blows. A very undersized chucker that can't defend. Couldn't be happier that he's gone and every single 76ers fan would agree. Nick Young is a chucker and can't defend either, but he's at least as good at it as Lou Williams is, and that's a fact. I can't explain your obsession is with Lou Williams.

He's a much better version of Lou Williams. The size difference between the two is important, and he'll be a much better defender than Lou.

I don't know if I'd say much better. He's certainly a better fit though because of his jumper. I'd also say they're pretty even in terms of defense. But definitely Nick Young at the least = Lou Williams.

I know he's not the greatest defender, but his size helps a lot for defense. I'll take Young at 6'8" instead of Lou at 6 feet.

By every efficiency measure, Lou Williams is better.

Lou Williams PER is almost double that of Nick Young's

Lou Williams actually had plays called for him late in close games. Nick Young was on the bench in close games.

On Wins Produced, Lou Williams number IS double.

So you can say till you are blue in the face that Nick Young is better, but it is demonstrably not so.

Young is 6'-7" and Lou is 6'-1"

I won't say that he's better. I will say they're basically the same exact player. You can throw out any advanced stat that you want, and I won't deny that Lou had better advanced stats, but Nick Young in the exact same role as Lou Williams will have the exact same impact.

Except for that close games part. Lou Williams isolation at the end of every game was brutal to watch. Lou Williams shot 35% from the field with 97% of his shots being jumpers under 5 minutes left in the game. Lou Williams hero ball failed every time, and so will Nick Young hero ball, so hopefully Doug Collins has smartened up.

Brian Windhorst might be a bigger troll than Skip Bayless. And this part...

... is proof that NBA executives are almost universally morons.

I think every team is eyeing Lebron in 2014 if he hits the market, which won't happen. He is the best player in the NBA. Not sure why the Lakers are getting so much publicity about this, though.

He's pretty much guaranteed to hit the market. There's no reason for him not to opt out.

He has an opt out clause. Miami can't do anything about it.

And I'm not saying he's going to leave Miami, but there's no reason for him not to opt out and re-up for more money/years.

Only to get a max deal. Lebron isn't leaving Miami where he has a chance to be part of one of the greatest dynasties of all time. He's already got ring #1 and Pat Riley who will continue to put together championship caliber parts around him.

The only way he doesn't stay in Miami is if **** hits the fan somehow in the next two years.

I don't think that's legal in the NBA. There may be a hand shake agreement where they say "opt out, sign this and we're good" but he has to technically opt out first.
