My fellow Ireland haters, we must convene the grand council and ask for forgiveness.

    Pretty much bang on.
Although, I still consider the secondary a weakness. They've held up pretty good against bad to mediocre passing teams, but I fear they will get exposed when we start playing some better passing teams.

Before the draft, Ireland would had to been a damned fool to publicly express his level of interest in Tannehill.
It seems to me he was even wary of expressing his interest in Tannehill to Brandt.

I don't get it. Is Prince a Tannehill or Ireland fan, or what?

Then again, most gif responses, meant in a humorous light I suppose, go right over my head most of the time anyway...

Actually the owner was the first person from the organization who stated that the Dolphins had to upgrade the QB position. While I now feel Tannehill was the right pick. I think the demands of Ross was the major factor in the Dolphins selecting a quarterback in the first round. They had no chance to take Luck or RG3, and Tannehill was considered the best available QB on the board when their selection came about in round one of the draft.

I don't credit Ireland or Philbin for the selection of Tannehill. I give all the credit to Ross.

I think Ireland knew we needed a Qb, and I would think that Tannehill was their guy when Philbin hired Mike Sherman and they dissed Matt Flynn...sounds like a concrete plan to me..Ireland loved the prospect, it almost seems like a master plan..

I haven't been an Ireland supporter; I'll admit that. I have said though that I liked some of the moves he's made along the way, especially this year with the drafting of Lamar Miller and the accumulation of future picks.

There are still some eyesores on the roster, but NOW, as opposed to a month or two ago, I'm curious to see what he does with that "ammunition" as he calls it, as rather than being curious to see who potential replacements are.

Some of the decisions made seem like he may or may not have arrived at them in a roundabout manner ie: Philbin (Stephen Ross and the whole bit with Ireland telling Mike McCoy he had the job), Tannehill (sending tapes around the league/Gil Brandt thing, though I believe he had scouted Tannehill prior to this year as it was rumored Miami's scouts really liked him BEFORE April 2012), and Olivier Vernon to some degree (even Ireland said he wasn't onto Vernon until he came to the "Miami Day" workout the Dolphins hosted), but they've worked out. Hopefully the collaboration of he and Joe Philbin keeps evolving successfully.

You gotta love quotes like that though. "Hey, I know his teams have only had a winning record once in 4 years, but if his teams won 5 Super Bowls you'd still hate him."

Re: My fellow Ireland haters, st convene the grand council and ask for forgiveness.

That wasn't the point. The point is people think Ireland is disliked for no reason at all. As if a losing record in 4 years is cool and we're just being harsh.

To suggest that we'd still dislike the guy if his teams won 5 Super Bowls shows that he's lost all objectivity and is posting on emotion.

It just seems like there are some posters (not saying you) who would argue that Miami hypothetical wins those 5 Super Bowls in spite of Ireland..... that all the success would go to Ross, Philbin, and Tannehill.

I don't think so. It's a contradiction of ones own opinion. I honestly don't think Ireland could assemble a Super Bowl team, let alone win 5.

And I mean, we can sit here and throw a party because the Dolphins are 3-3 but the holes we've been talking about for 3 years are still glaring.

lol how far have we lowered our standards that a 3-3 record is proof positive that we should now be praising our much maligned general manager.

3 straight losing seasons should have been enough to hand him his walking papers, just like it was enough to hand the head coach his walking papers. If Ireland was able to retain his job by convincing the owner that he had supplied/will continue to supply the team with enough talent to build off that 6-3 finish last year and take the next step and make the postseason, which probably happened given Ross publicly sharing his playoff expectations for the team this year, then that should be the standard we hold him to.

If Tannehill continues to progress & we made the playoffs this year going 9-7, would that your mind change about Ireland? Would you want to allow him to run our 2013 offseason or would you prefer to let him go? Serious question for the people who currently do not want him back in 2013... what does it actually take for you to be content with him running the show? Winning season? Division Championship? Playoffs? More than that?

I understand 3-3 is not something to brag about however at this given time we are slated to be the 6th seed in the AFC Playoffs. Obviously a lot can change in 10 games but would a 6th seed playoff spot with a .500 record be enough to justify keeping Ireland?

I am sure a shouright poll will hit the forums in due time... :shifty:

I honestly feel if we make the playoffs this season, we'll hear it's only because the AFC is so weak. So I expect most people to say they still want Ireland gone even if we make the playoffs.

You sure it's Parcells that is the x-factor here?

Because in the radio interview that smahtaz quoted, Gil Brandt states pretty clearly that when he called Jeff Ireland in January (note: Mike Sherman was hired January 27th), Jeff replied to Gil Brandt's praise of Ryan Tannehill with, "Ah well, we think he's alright, but nothing special."

Mike Sherman is hired and suddenly it's Jeff Ireland coming to Gil Brandt and saying "Boy I hope you didn't call anyone else."

Oh, and Gil Brandt just happened to also reveal Jeff Ireland as an abject liar in that interview. No biggie.

Yes that is a fact. Mike McCoy directly and succinctly told reporters that the night before they hired Philbin, Jeff implied that he was getting the job and told him that if all goes according to plan he'll be sending a jet for he and his family the next day. Simultaneously, Simon was told by a prominent member of the media that inside the building Jeff Ireland had taken a shine to Mike McCoy while Steve Ross had taken a shine to Joe Philbin, but Ireland was winning the argument and so McCoy was likely to be hired. Then Philbin was hired instead.

How is this not a positive for Ireland? He gathered information and formed an opinion based on that information. Thats his job. Whomever's opinion he sought isn't relevant.

So what, we're supposed to automatically believe Ireland didn't have interest in Tanehill until Philbin came on board because Brandt said so, despite the fact that Ireland himself said he had interest in him before?
