Just found this article a few minutes ago. It's a very well-done piece on the country's infrastructure--roads, power systems, dams, everything. Contains a bit of hope and a bit of sobering thought. One thing that's always bothered me about infrastructure is that too many people are interested in merely maintaining it: they want to keep it functional, but also keep it the same. I'd prefer to upgrade the the thing wholesale. Let's get new power plants and new electricity delivery systems; research road paving materials better than asphalt and paving techniques better than the layering system we use right now; re-do the sewage and water control systems; replace the rail system with magnetic tracks and develop bullet passenger/cargo trains; basically, let's remake 21st century America the way our current infrastructure remade 20th century America.
Yeah, not much to say here. The government is screwing up--again. I say we end the sprawling entitlement setup in this country and forward the money to infrastructure renovation.
A big Amen to that. Where is all the gas tax money going? Not being used as Ike set it up to be used or we wouldn't have most of these problems. Thats my thinking on it.
Tax money goes into entitlements and pork. You would think that with all the bridges to nowhere being built, at least one of them would have some sort of innovative design.
