After the Packers early struggles there were whispers around the GB locker room that Philbin and his ability to adjust in game was dearly missed. This got me thinking. If he is that good at making adjustments between possessions, how good is he with significant time to prepare for defenses he has already seen or has extra time (bye week) to prepare for. I went back 3 seasons and found this... After a bye, the Packers were 3-0 and averaged 34 ppg. The 2nd time in a season he saw a defense?? 8-1 and averaged 31 ppg in those victories. As opposed to averaging 25 in the 1st meetings. I understand they have an all world QB in GB, an abundance of talent at WR and a pretty good coach in Sherman. But we all heard it from the horses mouth that Philbin played a huge role on the offensive side of the ball. But I also believe our soft spoken geek of a coach will put our offense in a great position to succeed. Phins 27-13
Sounds good to me FinO...last nite I had dinner with two Harvard honor grads, we talked genetics, philosophy, intellectual diversity and capacity, it was fascinating..maybe intellect plays a role here with this extra time and film..
I see your two Harvard grads and raise you a drag queen and a life coach that claims he can talk to entities inside rocks, we talked Lemuria, inter dimensional time travel and gnomes...
I concur. Except a friend told me that Carpenter visted an exorcist during the bye week. With that being said I will have to add 3 points to your prediction. Mia 30 NYJ 13
I watched the 2008 game 17 with pennington again yesterday. just fun to watch. Forgot it was Carps rookie season, that FG was epic. he wasnt even goldilocks back then. Hope he starts lookin like he used to soon.
I think it also speaks to Mike Sherman and Kevin Coyle's ability to adjust. Game to game, half to half, this trio is showing itself to be very capable. We are very fortunate. And it's likely we'll get at least another season out of them. Not to mention the rest of the staff is comprised of a lot of young guys. So we have a very good chance of keeping the band together while the foundation is being being built.
Lol, sorry if that came off wrong, some folks have talked about the intellect of Philbin, I just meant that Philbins intellect will eventually start to flash, and that this extra time could give him an advantage considering his opponent..
Well, I didn't have dinner with Harvard Honor grabs last nite, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn express?? Does that count?? hehehehe
Seriously, I love the enthusiasm, but I'm not convinced this team has the talent to win consistently this year. We have too many guys starting to show that they can be consistent for them to all hit at the same time. I think that this team is very capable of beating the jests, but that's more a testament of how bad they are than how great we are. For us to beat them, unfortunately, we have to have a near perfect game...we'll see, but I just don't have the same confidence as many do. To your point about Philbin and his staff, I think they bring exactly what this team needed...they've grounded everyone and have them playing well...together. I also have been impressed with in-game and in between half adjustments this team makes, something we haven't seen since Shues was here... It'll be very interesting how we play them. On the other hand, and this really hurts to say, but I have to give props to Rexy for taking all the press off of his team's demise this entire year by dredging up the Bush/Revis/Landry thing... What a stroke of brilliance on his part... Now if Pouncey and Bush and etc would shut up and play their best now, I'll be very happy...but if they are still worrying about getting even instead of just beating them, we could be in for a long day...
I feel like you're talking about Slippery Pete in a negative light. That guy helped me build up the confidence to walk in to that DollarTree and walk out of there with a rewarding minimum wage part time job and with renewed sense of dignity and pride.
It's La Quinta now dude. Get with it. The 90's called. They want their Hotel back...
Yeah, you're right...He's the coolest guy I know. I'd never know that certain cirrus-stratus clouds were actually cloaked Arcturian spaceships without him.
The point wasn't about bragging, been here too long, I hope people feel I'm not like that, it was about me seeing very hi intellect in action, being quite taken back, and correlating that with what the OP was talking about,
My grandfather went to Yale, so screw you guys. Sure, I'm currently enrolled at Whats-a-matta U... . . . . and Rex Ryan's my Mythology teacher...
sorry I thought the Jets would get another FG and I didn't account for a Jets failed 2 point conversion. LOL
After a bye on the road without your starting QB? Philbin manages 30 points and a blowout win. Coach of the year thus far.
I'm not sure "adjusting" is the right praise. We get out to fast starts, and then the games become a nail biter. I will say, I used to bank on post bi-week losses with Sparano, but was confident this past week.
If you mean game plan when saying adjusted, then yeah I agree. Every game we have pretty much dominated the 1st quarter, and always seemed prepared. That being, said, half time and beyond sometimes has been a different story. That's in game adjustments.
The thread was based on his ability to improve after a bye week and the 2nd time he has faced a team in a season.
