As many of you might know Sanday is heading up the East coast and should hit the Northeast on Sunday. Could East Rutherford be in the path of the perfect storm and if so and the officials allow them to play wouldn't a heavy downpour with high wind gust help Miami out since they probably have a better ground game than the Jets. Any amateur meteorologist out there who can fill us in on the potential of the game being canceled.

It is funny you should use that as the title, because this could well be "The Perfect Storm." I can't stress this enough, but this storm will likely rewrite the weather record books. IF Sandy should interact with the polar jet (and I say if, because I wouldn't say it is 100 percent yet) you are going to see a storm three to four times worse than Tropical Storm Irene last year. If you live in this area, don't worry about the football game, you should be making long term preps now for possible power interruptions for upwards of two weeks. This isn't hyperbole.

For those just interested in the game, below is a look at a model run for 1 EST on Sunday . . .

As you can see, the outer bands could start affecting NJ around kickoff on Sunday. Conditions will deteriorate rapidly though throughout the day on Sunday and especially into Monday morning.

The bottom line is this, this is a once in a generation type set up and it will cause massive disruptions and unfortunately a loss of life and property. If you have plans to fly in for the game, I might rethink those plans. If you live anywhere from the North Carolina coast up through the interior Northeast, please take this seriously. Heed all local forecasts, all evacuation orders, and most importantly stay safe.

I see what you're saying. So we shouldn't bring out Carpenter for anything longer than 30 yards?

Its just Category 1 though, how much strength could it get from the Polar Jet?

The problem is that it will "phase" with the jet, which will automatically intensify the system. I don't want to make this sound like a Katrina like monster, because as you said, it will likely be a Cat 1 or 2 instead of a Cat 5. What makes this a different situation is that the NE was clobbered by a weak tropical storm last year and it caused all kinds of issues. This storm will be much worse, and the sad truth is that many in the NE are no prepared for anything like this.

    It's basically a combo Hurricane and Nor'easter.

It wont impact the game.....it is scheduled to reach us after it....

Will there be wind and rain yes.....but nothing to reschedule for....

It could however make for a very boring run heavy game...Sparano must be loving this...

How far north do you think this thing makes landfall? Not looking forward to this if it lands near DC.

Me neither. There are two major computer models, European and American. Currently, The European one has it coming ashore very near DC on Monday afternoon. The American model has it staying off shore longer and finally coming ashore Tuesday afternoon near NYC. Likely it will be somewhere in betweeen.
