Pounce really loves his rookie QB.

Mike Pouncey sure is doing that with Ryan Tannehill.

"I think he's the best rookie quarterback in the NFL right now," Pouncey said of Tannehill, taken by Miami with the No. 8 pick in last April's NFL draft. "Without his success that he's having right now, we wouldn't be the 3-3 Dolphins that we are."

So Tannehill is better than Andrew Luck, the top pick by Indianapolis?

    Pouncey says yes."

I got him at 3 behind RG and Luck..but those guys are incredible prospects, really incredible..Absolutely thrilled our boy is in the conversation.

I believe at this point, we have enough reps to see that certain criticisms were just off predraft.

    1) deep ball accuracy.

    2) touch and trajectory.

    3) working the middle of the field.

    4) questionable decision making.

Just check those things off the list, and add poised, smart, tough as hell, willing to stand tall in the pocket, acute accuracy, athletic, can throw on the run, left or right, keeps eyes downfield when scrambling, thinks throw first, always.

We've seen enough to establish a pretty high floor for him. I think the worst case scenario is a guy you can gut out wins with. What we haven't seen is him go ham and take over a game a la a Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Brady, Maning, etc. He is way ahead of schedule and could develop into special territory. The great thing is he already is better than anything we've had for about 12 or so years.

IMO his best trait and highest ceiling point will be his accuracy, combine that with his pocket prescense, and "want to" from the pocket, you have a Brady like comparison in that context.

Some of the criticisms may not have been off base... but instead could be improvements he's made in his game since college, now working full time on football all offseason/TC and while not needing to waste much of that time learning the offense/playbook.

I would agree with that but trajectory and touch, and that whole middle of the field thing, seems completely unjustified relative to what was being said..and I didn't hear much about some very keen accuracy talents..

You know Nasty, all of those things were squashed when you can see it up close and in practice..

What a difference those evaluations can turn into when you can study the guy in practice instead of just film.

I think that RT's draft ranking was hurt b/c his stats were good, but not great and he was on an okay team with a horrid defense. First of all, most people can't see past the team success. Their level of analysis stops at the W/L record. How many posts did you see here pre-draft that cited TAMU's W/L record as "proof" that RT wasn't worth a top 10 pick? Then next level of analysis is from the people who based it all on stats without watching the games or, just as bad, would watch the games but can't differentiate when a play's success or failure is due to the QB or some other factor. And when the QB is at fault you have to be able to identify if it is correctable (and then try to guess if his personality is such that it is likely to be corrected). These analysts were arguably more annoying b/c they had just as much ignorance, but believed they were knowledgable. The real bottom line on RT pre-draft was that he physically checked off all of the boxes and was highly intelligent and motivated with no obvious character flaws/question marks. A QB like that who played at a major college and had good success is always worth a top 10 pick. All the other "noise" was just worthless.

This is why I have no idea what goes thru running backs minds when they go back to college to tote the rock..not that Marcus did that, but just in general.

I have no idea why anyone would agree to play the position. If I was 5 ft 9 220 and fast I'd be working on my pass rush skills. Running back is a brutal position

The thing that has impressed me the most about Tannehill is his football intelligence. We knew he was a bright kid, but the pre snap reads and adjustments at the line he is making already at this stage is just really impressive. You just don't see many quarterbacks period, let alone rookie QBs, making that many calls at the line.

I am happy to see that Pouncey is backing his QB. I too feel that Tannehill is the long term answer at the QB position for the Dolphins and I am happy that he was taken with the Dolphins first round pick. As far as him being the best rookie QB. Pouncey is certainly entitled to his opinion, but right now the best QB drafted in 2012 was RG3. He can do it with his arm and his legs.

I said before the draft that if I could take any QB in the 2012 draft, I would have taken RG3. After watching him play in several games this season. I think he is already a top ten QB in the NFL and he will eventually be the top QB in the NFL, IMO.

This takes nothing away from Tannehill, who I feel will also eventually be a top ten QB in the league. RG3 though is just a player who happens to have the arm, the legs, and the intelligence to be a very special player at the QB position in the NFL.

Plan A for me was to give up the picks for RG..but I sure am happy that Tannehill has this very hi pocket upside, and all the other stuff that were seeing in his game and at the Los.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, but I would not trade places with the Redskins. When its all said and done, I don't think there will be a consensus better pick between Tanny & RGIII..but we gave up nothing to get Tanny.

It will not surprise me if Lattimore has some disruption of blood flow from that injury and possible nerve damage. A friend of mine that played at Mississippi State had a similar injury, and he now wears a lower leg brace because he was about 30 minutes to 1 hour from losing his leg entirely.

So check it out, after the timeout, he comes back out, looks disoriented, and blows all the clock and has to call timeout....and then, they call an Iso Qb run play where he gets crushed...I would be ballistic right now if I was that kids father...the while time Rodriguez is screaming at him for calling timeout.

I can't stand Rodriguez. Even the announcers were stating that Scott needed to come out of the game immediately because he was throwing up after the hit he took. Rodriguez called time out and yet he still let Scott go back in the game. The fact Scott led his team to a TD after the hit is irrelevant to me. The reality is that Scott should never have been in the game after that hit.

Replacing him after the fact was too late, as far as I am concerned. It showed me that Rodiguez cared more about winning the game than he cared about his player. I hope the parents of the players Rodriguez is recruiting saw how little he cared about his player and they will convince their sons to go somewhere else. Not to the, University of Arizona and play for a coach like Rodriguez.

agree with this. i also believe tannehill has excellent mobility and running ability, best of all he is always looking to throw. In the nfl if your qb is running very often he is in real danger of shortening his career. i think they are really drilling it into tanne to get through progressions, get the ball out of his hands, don't get smacked around out there, slide son.. the fact that we KNOW tannehill can run, and he isn't doing it is great to me.
