That doesn't mean a whole lot. Our db's over the past several years can't catch a thing anyway.

I think Thomas, Slaton and Lamar Miller can do a better job filling in at RB than our other CBs can for Vontae Davis.

Well Thomas was a 2nd round pick, just like we got for Vontae so he should be able to. Unless he's yet another 2nd round bust.

We really need a thumbs down option. Maybe a crybaby option. I am not an Ireland defender, I am not a VD hater, I am just a Dolphins fan who knows there are more things to ***** about in life then this. Hate me all you want but damn some of you guys need to be ***** slapped with some reality. Win or loose I will get my paycheck, I am not stupid enough to bet on something I have no control over. Yes I want the Dolphins to win, but to go all crazy over the trade of a player, give me a break. If Carrol. steps up and plays knockout football, this will be a none issue. We will not know that until atleast mid season.

Until then chill the **** out.

I agree that the Dolphins appear to be well under the cap going into the 2013 season. Of course the major problem is that if Ireland is still teams GM, this will probably prevent most of the top free agents from wanting to come to Miami to play for the Dolphins.

I think Ireland is the main reason Harbaugh, Fischer, and especially Manning, all tuned down chances to come to Miami. The best chance the Dolphins have of bringing in the top free agents in 2013 is for Ross to get rid of Ireland.

I guess he must come on this forum expecting to read only positives about a team that is one of the worst teams in the entire NFL. Heck, as far as I am concerned, compared to the mess the Dolphins are at this time, the rest of life is a bed of roses.

We've got enough picks right now for 3 first rounders, probably 3 top 15s and sitting on enough cash next year to make a huge splash in FA! Am I living in a fantasy land and we'll probably ef it up? Well, ya but it could happen.

How the heck do you come to that conclusion? What teams in the NFL would be dumb enough to trade a top 15 selection for picks in the second or third round. The Dolphins might be able to trade both their second round draft picks and a late round pick to move into the late part of the first round with another team, but there is absolutely no way they have enough draft picks to get an additional selection in the top 15. Much less two additional top 15 picks.

The only top pick they will get is with their own first round selection and with the team they have right now, it wouldn't surprise be in the least if they don't end up with a top three pick.

jboogie The sky is NOT falling!

pulled it out of my rear :tongue2:

Seriously though acording to this draft chart our 2 2nds and 2 3rds would be worth a 27th and 28th pick if us and the colts picked 41st and 42nd over all in the 2nd and the bears gave us a 84th in the 3rd. Hearing you talk I would assume you think we will pick, what 3rd, even better? The 3 top 15s was a stretch but, if we traded down in the 1st not imposible.

Disclaimer: I don't believe this will happen just gotta throw some positivity to offset all the *****ing around here today.

Well, actually they are. The lesson is, it's been so long since the Dolphins had a competent front office or head coach, we don't know how to deal with one when we actually get it. Hey, I am very happy to have been too pessimistic. That's why I prefer being pessimistic---I am constantly pleasantly surprised instead of constantly being bitterly disappointed.

yeah some people who know who they are should maybe just stay on the couch and not try to be an armchair GM, when they clearly don't have the knowledge what's happening behind the scenes...looking back at some started threads and also posts....its a shame...

AS an Ireland supporter I have to admit that I have had my doubts. It looks to me though, as if he (along with BP) have built a very good defense. Ireland has really hit on some late round guys like Wilson, Carroll, Jones and Clemons… he has also brought in a couple guys from the CFL in Wake and Thigpen that are game changers (yes, I think Thigpen is a game changer on ST's). I am not happy with the OL considering the resources we have spent on it… Lastly, Ireland did a great job of putting what appears to be a good coaching staff together. I for one am enthusiastic enough about the direction of the Fins that I spent $675 on two tickets to the 49ers game.

Well, while I think that this team has more talent than what has shown thru up until this year, there are still several holes to be filled that Ireland has not filled over time (WR, TE, S, CB, OL).

We all agreed that there were a bunch of question marks on this team in August...Here are the positives:

Pouncey - has become a star in this league.
Smith - has become a consistent quality starter, perhaps a budding star.
Misi - has becomes a consistent quality starter.
Jerry - has become a consistent quality starter.
Jones - has become a consistent quality starter.
Odrick - has played better than many thought he would, even tho he still has a ways to go.
Clemons - has become a better player than what he's shown since he's been here......not yet consistent tho.
Wilson - has shown more sparks than last year, but again, not consistently.
Martin - has erased most of his detractors and is on his way to becoming a good OL.
Tannyhill - has erased many of his detractors and is on his way to becoming a franchise guy. Not there yet, but on his way.
Lane - has shown that he belongs in the league.
Vernon - has erased some of his detractors and is progressing. Not there yet, but worth seeing how he's going to turn out.
Randall - has flashed some in games, shows signs of development.

Here are the not so positives:

Hartline - still the guy we thought he was, not able to be consistent enough to be considered a locked in starter.
Thomas - has been decent when healthy, but hasn't been healthy. I expected him to break out more this year, but he simply hasn't been in there. When he has, he's been as productive as Bush, save for the wow factor.
Bush - Wildly inconsistent. Hurt much of the year, but can't be relied on to consistently bang it in for positive yardage. Goes for stretches and disappears...Still, the breakaway threat is there though. Sadly, for both Bush and Thomas, this is the best OL they've played behind here.
Odrick - I list him in both categories because I still feel he's playing out of position. He is a better 3-4 DE, but because of having depth and good starters at DT (where he's more suited in this D), he's being used outside and just isn't that passrusher we need there.
Davis - his inability to mature into a pro hurt him the most. I still think he can make it in this league, but certainly hasn't shown it yet, except in flashes. Kudos to Ireland and Philbin/Coyle for recognizing this and moving him out when they could...
Richard Marshall - Can't show what he's got when he's not on the field. On the positive side, his absence has given Wilson and Carroll opportunities to prove their mettle.
Egnew - one thing we've needed for a long time is that seam-busting, pass catching specialist TE and that guy just hasn't been found yet. Is it his youth and inexperience or does he just not have it ?? We don't know yet.
WR - I list this separately because none of the guys that we needed to develop in August have done so yet. Hartline is the best of the group, but MMoore, AArmstrong, Gaffney, CJ85, Naanee have, as of yet, shown to be able to push a mediocre Hartline to #3, or for that matter become the #3...There are some signs, with Gaffney getting healthy and MMoore playing well at times, but geez....

So there are still some questions out there to be answered, but several have been answered, most notably Tannyhill at QB seems to be a guy we can grow with...But you have to look at the staff and at the previous staff to decide whether or not the problem is simply talent [or lack thereof] or inability to develop the talent we have...

Luck, I think when you hear the type of mocking and insults that were being thrown around about front office decision making, I think it hurt the culture from an image POV, which probably affects attractiveness to the consumer, which puts less fans in the seats..

I'm not provoking bumping threads, but I do believe in watching what you say, unless your really sound in your criticisms,( not piggybacking off team ignorance by the national media) only to protect your own culture, you know what I'm sayin?

When I think about some of the stuff that was said about Ross and Ireland, it was hurtful man, I'm sure it was hurtful to their Families as well..

I think there are ways to criticize without humiliating your franchise, just a bit of accountability, even though some think these message boards and what is said on them doesn't make a difference, I don't agree with that..

actually a lot of our cap space will be needed just to resign some of our guys. So it's not as much as some people think, but we hopefully will get a few hometown discounts and have $6-10 million extra for free agency.

Those guys, at that time, deserved a lot of the criticism they got. I still think Ross [like my kids] is better seen and not heard... His meddling in the affairs of the FO and staff hurt the image of this team, period. That said, is it a wonder that we haven't heard much at all from him lately and the fan base is turning around some or is it that, as many of us have said, if/when we start winning again, the fan base will turn back to supporting the team ??

I don't think that basically many people have 'changed' their minds...There are many posters and fans giving the coaching staff a lot of credit for the revival of some players and the general development of others without the thought that maybe, just maybe Ireland didn't deserve all the bad reviews and comments he was getting...

No matter what personal feelings of Ross and Irish are, winning seems to cure many of the ills we've had. If you don't believe me, watch and see if we lose a couple of the next few "winnable" games what happens...They'll be back...

That coaching staff is not Ireland's but Joe Philbin all the way. No way he took who Ireland told him too. I just don't believe that. If you look at the coaching staff I would assume (no I haven't looked into it too far) I would think there are more connections with Philbin than Ireland.
