Again, context. You're not using the word in the correct setting.

If I told you you're being obtuse would you assume I'm telling you you're acting like a triangle?

That's obviously proving to not be the case, so it's not up for debate, especially not when the criticism was directed at a team that hadn't played a single freakin game. Not everyone shared the opinion that Ross & Ireland deserved criticism, so please don't make it seem like it was some foregone conclusion just b/c a portion of the fan base & media falsely believed that at the time. Besides, if the supposed "criticism" were indeed that concretely warranted then it would've stayed that way, but it didn't.
The only thing on the subject that's up for debate is how prematurely wrong and irrational all the pessimistic cliff jumpers were.

Added: BTW, we were a good 6-3 team to finish out 2011, possessed a top defense that remained in tact, added a franchise QB, added a competent coaching staff, and upgraded the offensive design, so I have no idea where you get this "at that time they both deserved criticism" from. The criticism was unwarranted, especially when you consider most of it revolved around not signing Flynn (whom some fans falsely believed would be the savior of the organization) and that the trading of Vontae and Brandon would be the demise of it.

There isn't an affording ground for belief that Miami will be 4-12. I would be willing to make that bet.

It is improbable that Miami will go 4-12.

Reaction after Vontae trade. Dont forget we saw Vontae punished by the previous staff. ... I was close to starting a thread this summer in hopes of potentially calling him out on twitter. Why ? Because you could just see he wasn't an individual focused on his profession, as all the other players were. Rare talent, but he's a Knucklehead. I want winners. :wink2:

Carroll played well at the end of last year, they signed Marshall. Sean Smith showed he had taken the next step and surpassed Davis..... like a lot of smart people around here once predicted. The timing was right, and Coyle's doing just fine without him ! That pick is going to net us one of the top WR,LB,DE,CB,RB in the nation !

Lets build new memories with Philbin's bunch, and let the wins wash away the stinky old ones.

Read what you wrote. It doesn't fit. I even put in your definition to show you it doesn't fit.

You didn't say, "There was a probability." You said, it was probable.

    There is the quote.

NO it is not probable. It is improbable.

Of course because it is improbable. Very unlikely.

You can calculate a probability, and it is possible. However with the way you used probable in this sentence, twice, means that it is likely.

Notice here how you had to change your statement.

    The title of thread is:

"this roster has the least amount of talent in the league"

We don't need to win the SB or have a dynasty before we can call this false. Its already been proven false. Hell, even the OP, sacked up as a man, and admitted it was wrong.

And bumping the thread is not crowing.

But you're looking how things are now, not how they were at the time...Now, with better coaching, more experience, a better qb and/or a combination of all that, the talent is showing thru on many of these guys that were 'questionable' at that time. So, at that time, the criticism was somewhat warranted. The team that Irish had accumulated was either not talented or underperforming (again, due to various reasons, including inexperience and lack of an offseason last year). For the record, I wasn't one that was bashing Ireland then or now. Ross, I felt was getting into things that didn't concern the owner, but that was my opinion and since he's the guy with the money and power, he had the right to do those things...

If you looked at this team, even at the end of PS, there was no way you could guess that they'd be quite this successful. A lot of developing players have come together to form this team as it is now, not just a better QB...

I disagree. The criticism in this thread was directly pointed at the talent level. That is a specific assessment. That assessment is based on more than just what the record was. You have to look at the talent level and project what it can be with better coaching and proper utilization. And you have to compare it to the rest of the league. If you can't do that, then why pretend you can? When I disagreed with the "least talent in the league" assessment, I was projecting what they could be. I and many others did project that this team could produce at or near the level they have produced at, so I don't get how anybody can claim there was no way you could guess that they'd be quite this successful".

I believe in good and bad luck, as far as they are nebulous concepts that we use to explain occurrences that have an element of chance. I think those occurrences of chance are obviously random and by that simple fact, cannot be effected by silly superstitions and/or trinkets.

If doing X gets Y result, its no longer a chance occurrence and instead a cause and effect occurrence, thereby making jinxes, superstitions, charms, etc. unnecessary.

I love ya' Deej, but I didn't argue for the team's honor. I did it because the prevailing theory that we were the worst team or one of the worst, was just incorrect.

A team cannot go 0-7 then 6-3 and it be a lack of talent issue. If you had no talent you cannot go 6-3. Our problems have been coaching and QB. We fixed those this off season. It really isn't more complicated than that.

So you are saying that this team is performing beyond their talent level and that's why they're more successful now ??

One had to prognosticate that Jones, Smith, Jerry, Wake, Pouncey, Incognito, Misi, Starks, Soliai, Hartline, Wilson, Carroll, Bush would all be playing at the level they are now back in August ?? Additionally, you guessed that Tanny, Vernon, Lane, Martin, Miller, Thigpen would also be either starting or contributing at the level they are AND that the new staff would meld this group together to assess that in the end this would all come to fruition and that the criticism for 'lack of talent' wasn't warranted...again at that time ?? Those folks who saw this coming are better football minds than mine... (which isn't saying much, I concede).

Once again, I'm not saying that I agreed or disagreed with the thread at the time, just that it brought out a topic that warranted consideration that this team was lacking in visible talent...then... because so many guys either had not shown their talent, were not coached properly or were inexperienced at this level. My only contention was that IF they'd all come together as they have. and I said several times in different threads, that for this team to come together this year, a LOT of guys had to blossom at the same time. Now, admittedly, it appears that is the general direction a LOT of guys are heading right now, but no...I didn't see that coming in August...

Again, there is no way for a team to go 6-3 over a stretch and lack talent. The fact that the team actually went 0-7 & then 6-3 says there is a problem with coaching.

Then you take that same team and add a better HC, you have at least an 8-8 team. Even if we were as bad as we were last year, we wouldn't have the least amount of talent in the league. 6-10 is a far cry from worst in the league.

Its not hard to be right when you are using logic versus emotional rhetoric. Its not like a guy like raf, is a homer and was just spouting off and happened to be right about the team, the coach, the qb, etc.

The combined records of the 6 teams Miami beat last year was 34-46 (they beat the Bills twice)

None of those teams finished with a winning record. Two of them were 8-8 (Raiders and Jets)

The Dolphins actually haven't beaten a team that finished the season with a winning record since 2010. That year, they only beat two teams that finished with a winning record (Packers and Jets)

That, my friends, is the definition of mediocrity. So while it was off to say they had the least amount of talent in the league (To me, the Browns and Chiefs run away with that title) the tone of the thread was consistent with the frustrations that had been mounting for some time.

Luckily, a good QB can change those type of things in a hurry. Hopefully Tannehill continues to improve and threads like this will cease to exist.

We are either the least talented team in the league or we are not. This bull**** hate you cling too like its the last piece of *** on the planet is ******ed.

Let me be as clear as possible.

You were wrong about them. Wrong. The OP was wrong. All the other people that agreed with you, were wrong. We don't suck. We don't lack talent. Ireland isn't a horrible GM. You can't win 6 out of 9 games and lack talent regardless of the records of your opponents.

You were wrong then. You are wrong now.

It is time for you, to put on your big boy pants, suck up your pride and admit you have been wrong from the off season till now, like a man.

I swear to god its like you aren't gonna be happy till we go 0-16 so then you can be right, instead of wrong...which is what you've been.

    Wrong.

And, you couldn't hate Ireland to the ridiculous levels you do if you didn't feel we had virtually no talent on this team.

I'm pointing out the records to illustrate just how mediocre the talent and the team and the (now former) coach and the GM have been.

The OP's point, though he went overboard, was to knock Ireland. That's why he also pointed out the cap situation.

Do you understand the difference between mediocre talent and the least amount of talent in the league?
Do you understand a post ago you tried to distance yourself from this thread by saying you were just against Ireland, and now you tied this to being against Ireland?
Do you understand that no one was arguing against the fact the team had mediocre talent overall, and that's why a few us (that you argued with) were saying we'd be 8-8 (you know the definition of mediocre)?

Any of this getting past your hate wall?

Again though, I never said this team had the least amount of talent in the league. I don't agree with the OP. But I wouldn't bump a thread while the team is 4-3 to say I'm right and everyone else was wrong though. That's the issue here. I'm not distancing myself from anything. It's why I've said let's slow down and wait until this team plays the 49ers and the Pats before we go around calling everyone a hater because they weren't as optimistic.

No I'm not just looking at how things are now. At that time, I was looking at how things were at the time. I wasn't panicky and saw plenty of reason to be optimistic about the team at the time, and I believed it wouldn't be a stretch to see us possibly go 9-7 or 10-6 and make a playoff run at the time.

It's a matter of opinion, not fact, that criticism was warranted at the time. You can read through my posts and see that I did not share that same opinion, and I was quite thorough in my reasoning, enough so to not be dismissed as some random, loyal homer blindly sticking up for his team.

After the way things have gone the last few years, I don't blame people for being negative, especially ones that pay their hard-earned money to see this team play.

In sports, as fans, if the team isn't good they may as well be bad. Not everyone feels that way but a lot do.

If it is too early to say we are NOT the least talented team in the league, then it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early for this thread to have been created when it was.

    Where was your admonishment then?

Simple fact of the matter is, you are in here trying defend the thread's initial stance because it was close to yours.

The team has proven the thread title to be wrong. It proved it last year too. We are not the least talented team in the league.
