There were a lot of rumors after his pick that he was "hand-picked" by the coaching staff and Philbin had a lot of input in it. Previous Missouri tight ends such as Chase Coffman and Martin Rucker have really struggled to adapt to the NFL, but both of them were thrown into the fire, Coffman especially.

I think Egnew needs some time to learn, much like Jermichael Finley did in Green Bay. I think this year is essentially a redshirt year for him. What they do with Anthony Fasano this offseason will be indicative of what they think of Egnew IMO.

I think he's more than Arrelious Benn 2.0. He was the most impressive offensive player Tennessee had on the field when I was at their game against Alabama. I'm not sure he's an ideal fit for Miami's offense, but I think he'll have more success in the NFL than Benn has had to date.

More explosive than Benn, who was a possession WR at Illinois.

Ray Graham, HB Pitt. He is one of those guys I loved when he was a Fresh and sort of forgot about him (I hate Pitt), but he is putting on a show today. I like his game a lot.

I'm disappointed in the game today. I can't stand Notre Dame, but I was interested in seeing just how good there defense actually is, Te'o in particular since he's been mentioned as a Heisman candidate (personally, if Suh didn't win, there's no way Te'o would rightfully deserve to). But man, he just hasn't lived up to the billing today...

How about that gift-wrapped pass interference call on Eifert. Notre Dame certainly gets some home-cooking from the officials.

    60+ receptions, 1,000+ yards, 13 TDs.

I'd love to add him, too..... but I don't think he'll leave early unless he feels pressed by the 2 immensely talented current sophomores, Charone Peake & Martavis Brant, nipping on his heels. That doesn't include Sammy (who shouldn't be off the field very often), Adam Humphries (sophomore), or the stud freshman, Germone Hopper, all seeing playing time. It's essentially 2 groups of 1st team receivers having to share all the snaps. The depth is nuts.

Joe Fauria (UCLA TE) had another sweet over the shoulder catch in the corner of the end zone just now.. He doesn't have gaudy stats this season (see my sig) but I really hope we take a hard look at him at TE this draft. He's big, powerful, and has soft hands. excellent qualities in today's TE

Thought you said you wanted an impact player? If so Cordarrell would make a bigger impact than Da'Rick. Dez Bryant has more character than Da'Rick Rodgers. C.P. makes people miss, and gets YATC. Honestly I think we might take a long look at Ryan Swope, because he was the most trusted guy of Tanny during his A&M time. Also he knows the system. Of course, I would be happy with any WR that pans out!

Two players I was pretty impressed with tonight in the Alabama vs. LSU game were Alabama LB Nico Johnson and their TE Michael Williams.

Johnson was much more impressive tonight, IMO, than he was when I saw them in-person against Tennessee. He's a good open-field tackler and made a really nice play on LSU's FB on the tackle and strip for a fumble that was called back because LSU had an illegal motion penalty. This is a guy I hope Miami takes a serious look at as an eventual replacement to Karlos Dansby and/or Kevin Burnett as both of them are getting up their in age.

Michael Williams, while not the greatest receiving threat, is an outstanding blocker and really got down the field pretty well while engaging defenders. He's shown the ability to make some nice catches in the past and this season. If Miami lets both Anthony Fasano and Jeron Mastrud walk in free agency in order to give Michael Egnew a chance, a la Jermichael Finley in Green Bay...sort of, then I hope they at least take a look at Williams in the middle rounds to help replace Fasano's blocking prowess. This would allow them to still use Egnew and Clay in receiving roles. Again, this is hypothetical based on them not bringing back Fasano and Mastrud, which I'd guess is a mild possibility given that Miami's going to have to make decisions on Long, Starks, Smith, Hartline, Bush, and Fasano.

I didn't get a chance to watch the LSU -Alabama game, but what did you think about LSU LB Kevin Minter? I've only seen LSU play 1 game live (LSU @ UF) and he was all over the field making tackles. He ended the game with 20 total tackles (17 solo) and 2 sacks. From what I saw he was really good, and I surprisingly haven't heard a lot about him.

He impressed me more than Mingo and Montgomery, by far.

Hard to get a good read on him from this game. Danielson and Lundquist were raving about him and the game he had against Florida. By the way, Mingo didn't really impress me; he's more athlete than football player. Montgomery had a decent game.

As for Minter, he's got range. I think he had some trouble disengaging from blocks at times. Barrett Jones and Chance Warmack drove him down the field individually on a few separate occasions. When he's got a clean shot, he doesn't miss often. I don't think he brings as much to the hit as someone like Nico Johnson or Manti Te'o, but he gets the job done. Reminded me of Kevin Burnett a little bit, but I feel like there's a better comparison to be made somewhere else. Thomas Howard maybe. I'd have to see more LSU games.

I've been impressed with Jonathan Bostic of Florida as well. Their LB corps is better than LSU's, but every time I see Florida play, Bostic makes a "wow" play. He's certainly not the athlete Jelani Jenkins is, but he just strikes me as a football player.

I agree with Mingo. Scouts aren't going to be happy with his tape. He has all the athletic ability in the world, but he is more of an athlete than a football player.

As far as those guys driving Minter into the backfield, there is a reason they are some of the best interior lineman in all of college football lol.

I just wasn't sure how Cordarrell's route running ability is since I haven't watched a lot of TN this year..... whether he was a legitimate receiver or an athlete playing receiver like Benn was IMO.

Oh ok gotcha. Well C.P. has improved his route running game by game. It was horrible at the beginning of the season, but has improved it tremendously since the Florida game in particular. Also drops were a bit of concern early in the year. He has minimized that too. Justin Hunter I believe is an athlete who is also a legitimate receiver. His route running is so crisp it makes it look like he is just jogging.

Ok, good to know. That's why I said the Benn thing b/c of how Benn was a great athlete essentially playing receiver IMO (used him in the running game and lots of short passes to get him the ball, but was an inexperienced route runner), and that's what C.P reminded me of early in the year.

I like Gilbert, more so than most, but I think right now both of those guys are 2nd rounders.

If we're talking a CBs in the 1st round, I'd be looking at Jonathan Banks and Xavier Rhodes.

Gilbert is pretty electric. Playmaker written all over him. Its kind of funny the 2 guys I really like are not having great seasons. I want to see how Gilbert finishes the year if he finishes strong he potentially brought his stock back into round 1. I'm still hoping for playoffs is why I'm thinking about 2nd half of the draft.

Amerson had a rough start to the season but he bounced back nicely against FSU. His biggest problem is he is trying to make every play out there. He seems to be settling down and I think he is worthy of a selection from 18-26 in round 1.

Do you think Scouts were wrong with pegging him as a potential top 10 pick entering the season?

I'd be shocked if Miami didn't fill up on the secondary and the DL and maybe at WR with those first five picks. With half an eye on OT given Jale Long's travails. This to me isn't an impressive senior class at all.

Of the draft sites I usually look at, Gilbert's stock has risen from the 3rd to the 2nd round, but I still think he's got a ways to go to get into the first round. I'd think you could feasibly grab a lineman or pass-rusher in round 1 then whichever on you didn't get with the first pick in round 2 and still land Gilbert in round 2 with the second pick.

Without knowing our pick slots.....in some manner or form (and not knowing FA market) we just have to walk away with some ballhawkers in the DB (dont care if shutdown, as much as some CB's or S's that have body control, and awareness to find and attack the ball in air and pick it off); a speed edge rusher to compliment Wake, and seam buster WR's and/or TE's would have to be my top 5 guys...and agree with a eye toward OL road grader type to open some rushing space over pass protection seems about right.

Wish I could get a look at Egnew at TE before season ends to see about him in the seam, etc.

Its real nice to see this team "and its shortcomings" while still equating to some success via the wins already, and still know we have areas to fill, while having the Picks to fill them (and FAgency too)

    Well away from here
No thanks to Dobson, not quick/explosive enough for me to be honest. We have two of those wide receivers now, what we need is some more speed so that we can begin to expand the defense and exploit cracks into huge gains because of it.

I'm sorry but I don't see the extreme hype over Chance Warmack. He's a giant fatbody who gets sloppy at times. I'm concerned the NFL game might be too fast for him to where it prevents him from being consistently good enough to merit a 1st round grade. I'm not saying he looks bad, but I don't see a 1st rounder and certainly not a more talented guard than DeCastro.

I'd much rather have the athletic Jonathan Cooper whom, IMO, would be perfect next to Pouncey and doesn't need a 10 yard head start just to get out in front of a screen 11 yards downfield. You could probably lay Warmack down and roll him there faster.

I think your rather severely overstating how big he is. He's PLENTY athletic at his current size. Like most guys, I'm sure he'll trim down between the National Championship Game and the Combine. I think he's just as good as DeCastro. He's not as nimble looking to be sure, but he's more powerful, and he can move in space pretty well. The biggest I've seen him weighed in is only 322lbs. That's right around what Richie Incognito currently is; I'm sure Warmack will weigh less than that come March and April.

IDK, he looks closer to 330 to me... and he's only 6'2. He reminds me of how Duke Robinson was hyped up as the supposed unanimous #1 rated guard in 2009 and potential 1st rounder, but unfortunately the NFL didn't see it that way and he went at the end of the 5th. Besides, he's not a good fit for our offense. I don't think of the word "athleticism" when watching him, and IMO if anyone is close to DeCastro it's Cooper. I wouldn't draft Warmack with any of our first 5 picks TBH. IMO his ability and ceiling are limited. At the moment, I'd be more surprised to see him drafted in the 1st than the 3rd, but there's a lot of time till draft day.

The way Warmack is being hyped up as a 1st rounder, he should be the next Carl Nicks, yet when I watch him he looks like a shorter, fatter, and less athletic version of Nicks with 2 sprained ankles. :shifty: (ok, being a little dramatic about the 2 sprained ankles)

I'm hoping we get a guy in FA. I like Dobson's size not a burner but if he can get open at the next level he is going to be a great possession WR. Do you think he wont be able to beat the press?
