Is it a blatant Hook & Pull Down of Wake during Wayne's 9 yard TD??? Pics included.

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by ToddPhin, Nov 5, 2012.

Did Wake get hooked/held and should it have been called?

Noticed that during the game. I swear he is the most held defender in the NFL. I would hope we have alerted the NFL office of this issue.

They got ****ed on a lot of holding calls in that game, that one I think was just the most noteworthy.

Wow, and that was one of the few instances of an up-the-middle rush we would've had.

Before, I was assuming that missed call cost us 4 points (as the TD would've instead become a FG), but if the hold is called it would've pushed it back to roughly a 40-42 yard FG attempt, which isn't a gimme.

Down of Wake during Wayne's 9 yard TD??? Pics included.

I yelled pretty loud when this happened. The refs basically decided not to call holding yesterday, except for a BS one on Thigpen's kick return.

The NFL has been "Fixed" for a very long time now. It's the same thing every year. I hope you all look at this game the same way as the WWE, NBA, Boxing, ,etc. now.

If the fix was in yesterday they did a very poor job of it because we had the ball with the chance to score and win at the end of the game.

All of the great pass rushers get held on most plays and they won't call them all because the QB is given every opportunity to make plays. This one however is just a terrible no-call. There is no excuse for allowing an OL to be credited with a legit block from behind.

This should be a penalty, but one of the many things that isn't really called that often in today's NFL.

Every damn game i see wake getting held and no call is made. It also always seems to end up being a big play down the field. :tantrum:

Part of the new "protecting their investment" strategys is to allow as little contact on their stars as possible. Been seeing it a lot this season.

But what I saw Cam Wake go through the entire game yesterday was criminal.

I added another terrible no call thread on the game's first pass play for 16 yards. Figure I'll go through the entire game and see how many there were on Wake.

While you're wasting your time, review game tape of every snap of every team so far this season to see how many holding penalties aren't called. You might be surprised. Holding happens on EVERY play. If if got called every time we would never have football games.

I understand a little hold here and there, but these were 2 blatant holds by guys who were beat on the play, with both holds directly influencing the game in a big way.

Maybe all the Dolphins front office staff who read our board can get PhinSay a job doing just that.

He would finally have a job and possibly be able to stop pimping out his wife on Craigslist. (True story)

Answer me this. Is it a penalty? Yes or No. Are they called in the NFL, yes or no? If the rule has become so ambiguous as you're alluding, then what determines when Refs decide to call or not call it? Random chance? Coin flip? Do the refs convene before a drive and say "We'll call holding on this series against Wake but if he gets a sack we'll allow them the following few drives."?

There is research that indicates home field advantage results in favorable calls from the refs.

I don't have the answer to that question. But I do know you will drive yourself crazy trying to document every holding play that isn't called. There's nothing you can do about it. You're just spinning your wheels and wasting your time. But if you're dead set on it, I would like for you to document plays with missed holding calls that benefited us as well.

I mean you can always find exceptions to the rule. But generally speaking, the research indicates home field advantage really has no effect on how players play, but it does influence officiating.

There was one play I remember Wake getting spun completely around by some OL holding onto his jersey. Does it really matter though? Luck would have converted on 3 & 30...

I think it's a play that if the umpire was behind the MLB as they used to be all the time, that official would have seen it pretty clearly.

Speaking of calls or non calls, there was a play late in the game where Wake was taking down Luck, and I swear Luck's left knee contacted the ground before he released the pass, which was completed for a 1st down.

This is Roger's NFL. He wants offense, scoring and casual fans. He wants big ratings and big TV contacts.

The game has been compromised for years. Holding is called VERY rarely. Usually if it is blatant an at the point of attack on a run play. On pass rushes it is rarely called. The mandate is protect the quarterback, nothing else matters. Roger has already made it clear he does not give a flying **** about the integrity of the sport, this will not change anytime soon.

If I am the Dolphins I send in tape after every game. They might look like whiners but if they rattle the cage enough maybe they get a damn call.

I can understand the reasoning why its overlooked, but still see it as complete BS, as it reduces the effectivness of an otherwise team strength.
By enforcing such penalties, it forces the offense to dedicate a TE to assist with blocking, rather than enjoy the luxury of another reciever.
