While watching the Saints Eagles game it dawned on me that I cant remember what year was our best offensive team and I am having trouble with when was the last time we were good in both the passing and running game both . I am going to guess that 2003 was the best offense but yoou guys will probally disagree with me so i still would like to see what team you all thought was one of our better offensive teams . 2002 and 2003 is the last time that we could score more then 17 to 24 points per game , so Am I wrong on this .
The team where Ricky came over and went bizzerk. Fiedler was actually showing a lot of promise that year before he was injured, and along came a Lucas.
I'm going to go against the grain and say 2008 just because we set a record for least amount of turnovers for a season. Add that it with the birth of the Wildcat and an extremely effective Chad Pennington and it was fun to watch. Resulted in our only playoff appearance in the past 10 years.
We have a winner. That year we placed 12th in total offense. Our best year with Ricky only placed 15th in 2002. Strangely enough...the 2005 Scott Linehan/Gus Frerotte combo was our #2 offense since Marino retired finishing the year as the 14th best offense.
The Ricky year is only our 3rd best offense since Marino retired. Now if we go purely by points scored then 2002 was our best for that with 378. 2008 would be #2 at 345 and 2005 we scored 318 out of those top 3 offenses. Even odder is we had offenses in the 20's that somehow could still score. 2001 we had 344 points and 2009 we had 360 points (which would be #2 most points a Miami offense has scored...with Henning/Sparano o.O).
When y'all are pulling up Points Scored stats from the early 2000s, are you subtracting out all of the defensive touchdowns?
Man I forgot that year but i remember Frerotte had good chemistry our tight ends and wrs . I liked Frerotte and Gus and i think if we had stayed with him as qb then we would have won more games . Scott Linehan was my favorite offensive cordinator ,
NFL doesn't put defensive scores in the offensive stats. However it doesn't account for points the defense practically handed the offense. However that goes both ways so I wouldn't put any stick in it.
The 2001 anomoly of low ranked yardage but lots of points is explained by the 7 non-offensive touchdowns scored that year. The team had 49 points for which the offense was not responsible in any way.
2002. I watched Ricky hang 200+ on the Bills in Rich Stadium. I remember being down behind the Miami Bench, while being pelted by gummy fish, in my Zack jersey, wait or was it my Marino Jersey. Huuuummmm, maybe it was my Ricky jersey, hell I dont know. I remember looking at Ricky from a profile and man I will tell you what, Ricky was stacked like a brick ****-house. He was amazing. I will never forget that, and the gummy fish
