Owner Stephen Ross, the Dolphins, and his real estate company headquartered in New York have donated $500,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York in the wake of last week’s devastating storm.

The Dolphins join the Giants ($500,000), the Vikings ($100,000), the Colts (at least $65,000), Packers cornerback Charles Woodson ($100,000), and the NFL/NFLPA ($1 million) in making contributions. Here’s hoping more teams do the same..

Also Mando writes about how Ross is becoming a good owner..

    http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...g-a-pretty-darn-good-owner.html#storylink=cpy

In addition, the Dolphins will donate the net proceeds from the sale of general individual game tickets for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans that are purchased between 9:00 AM Thursday and kickoff on Sunday to the American Red Cross South Florida Region to exclusively support the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Ross, by the way, has made sure all Dolphins game have been televised locally regardless of sellout status and the team announced Wednesday that it had taken the necessary steps to ensure that Sunday's game will be televised locally.

“The devastation of Hurricane Sandy knows no boundaries, and I know I speak for the Dolphins and Related in expressing our dedication to help those in need during this difficult time,” said Ross in a statement. “We saw first-hand the damage the storm caused to our community, and with the close ties South Florida has with the Northeast, the Dolphins certainly want to support those families who are dealing with Sandy’s aftermath.

"But no matter where we live, our hearts go out to the people who suffered losses as a result of the storm, and we are committed to help them recover from the tragedy.”

How much did you donate? Or is your donation time spent bashing people that actually contributed?

100 bucks......I am worth about 5K......if I was more wealthy bet your *** I would have donated more than 500K.....again just my opinion.....America just spent 2B dollars electing a President, while there are people sleeping in 30 degree weather right now....everybody can do more....I certainly expect leaders to do more as well....

I donated more in time however here in RI helping on the coast with what happen do to the nature of my job, so theres that too....

D-Wade donated 200K out of his pocket and the ENTIRE NFL donated just 500K......just piss poor....

well. I hope ross dies. First celebrities. Then he doesn't ask my opinion for every football move. And now this? Donations? Donations that could be spent on paying fortune tellers to tell us when guys like marshall are going to be hurt? That motha ****er.

Curious how much you donated? As a percentage of all your assets, of course.

Actually forget that because really what right does anyone have to expect how much someone else should give?

If I said "since you seem to feel so strongly about this, you should have donated all 5000 since that's still nowhere near what others are giving", would you like it?

Anyways I'll stop. I don't want to attack you a its against TOS I just don't agree with your way of looking at help and judging people for how much they help.

Ross still creeps me out and that will probably never change...

    http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2012/10/stephen_ross_had_serious_talks.php

Ticket proceeds between today and sunday will go to the red cross. Ross's $500,000 will go to the "Mayor's Fund".

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/dolphins-donating-500-000-sandy-220022922--nfl.html

The mayor's fund gets high marks as a charity, but is not audited.

    I don't like Ross, I don't trust Ross...

If I were to give his eulogy it would probably be something akin to Bill Murray's eulogy in The Razor's Edge.

I'd probably just replace gluttony with greed...

On second thought finyank, while I still disagree I do see your point.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I feel like your point of view is that those who have more and are capable of helping more have a responsibility to help more.

Like a guy not sharing his extra food if people are starving around him.

Thing is, how do we decide how much is 'right' for him to share?

No offense finyank, but I hate it when people say this. It's one of the most uninformed things to say. I suggest you stop saying it, anywhere, to anyone.

You don't give away $1 to save $0.35. It shows a very severe lack of financial sense.

Again, not picking on you, just letting you that statement is about as nonsensical as it gets.

You're proud to not have donated? Doesn't really make sense to me.

I understand being unable to donate financially. But being proud of not donating. Can I ask why?

There's only one reason a person would be proud of not donating, but unfortunately it's against the TOS to post what that reason is.

This is another strange post. I understand not donating, you are not obligated to, especially in a tough economy. But why are you "proud" of it?
