The only way I want Ireland gone is if he takes Philbin with him. I do not like firing a coach or GM without firing the other. They should come in pairs.
Can someone please tell Ryan Tannehill that he's athletic, and allowed to use his legs to make plays.. This is how you win games, not by just throwing the ball to a target, but by getting first downs any which way you can, by scrambling in the pocket, foreseeing the rush and making an adjustment, take off for christs sakes and get involved in the game. Think we need to look at some backs in this draft..one with an overall good skillset, natural running instincts, and some speed..Stephan Taylor is a nice package of running back skills..eyes have been on him for a couple years. We're gonna need to start acquiring guys who have a different level of passion than the norm, with the state of the culture, it's gonna have to come to players caring enough to turn it around and come together, on their own. I don't know if having most of your leadership counsel players up for free agency at one time is condusive to a team atmosphere, not sure if that can work. I don't know which, or how many players who are up for free agency, want to be Miami dolphins.. And I don't know how players who may want to test free agency, could ever help form a championship caliber mindset. They lost to a similar type skillset that cut them up last week, no containment of the Qb to the pocket, and slow reaction skills behind the Los by our front 7.. I don't know, maybe when you shoot your load defensively the prior week, and nothing works, maybe confidence takes a big hit in the locker room.. Two historic losses in a row is not good... Gotta put Ireland back on the spot, as well as a lot of the players..who wants to be here is the question right?? Thursday nite we either win, or start looking at the offseason.
I watched on First row sports, since my refusal to pay $329 and boot of DirectTV to the curb. They kept raising my monthly also. Once they hit $94 for what started out as $49. I had enough. They picture is pretty grainy, but it fills the need if you know what I mean.
So why wasn't Ireland fired along with Sparano? My view is that the team needs a new GM. If this GM wants to get rid of Philbin, so be it. That should be his decision once he takes the job. I would rather see Ireland fired than see Philbin retained. Even though I think Philbin might end up being a decent coach in the future. I just don't think he is good enough to keep Ireland around.
Holy crap. You just compared the sh*t show that is the Miami Dolphins to the defending Super Bowl Champs. Good job.
There is no way I want Philbin fired as of right now. THe guy has the making of a very good head coach
Are you high or is this true? How do we go from the 6th seed, to 2 losses, to the 8th seed? If its true, that's amazing. What about after whatever game is played tonight and Monday Night?
We were actually the 5th seed going into the Indy game. It really makes no difference where we're at now. Three of our remaining games are against the Patriots and 49ers. No way we win those. That would put us at 8-8 if we won every other game. We won't.
The rest of this season is about developing Tannehill and determining who is long for the roster and who isn't.
The reality of the NFL is that anything can happen. The Cardinals beat the Pats, The Rams tied the 49ers. The Bengals beat the Giants today. And the Falcons lost today.
All this talk about Ireland… really what it comes down to IMO is Tannehill. Tannehill turns out to be a good QB Ireland will be around for a while. Also, I think Ireland gets at least one more off season
I agree and therefore based on the teams record so far this season, he still needs to be fired. Hiring Philbin after last season shouldn't save Ireland's job, as far as I am concerned.
It might take a few years to determine if Tannehill turns out to be a good NFL QB or not. Ireland hasn't proved he knows how to draft good football players and his team is short in the talent department. I for one, have no desire to wait to see how Tannehill turns out before deciding if Ireland should be fired. He should have been fired last year and he certainly needs to be fired now or as soon as this season is over.
That is where we are at: We are not dead, I know this team is better than 37-3. I'd think we want SD to win, but if Pitt wins and we win we leap frog SD
If keeping Philbin means keeping Ireland. I have no problem with them firing Philbin and letting the next GM hire his own coach. That is how badly I want Ireland gone from the Dolphin organization. Besides, it was suppose to have been Ross who wanted Philbin. It was reported last year that Ireland wanted to hire McCoy from the Broncos. Since Philbin was Ross's hire, he should only leave if Ross sells the team. Ireland can be fired and Philbin can keep his job under this scenario.
I know you've always felt thid way, but you wouldn't be talking about it if we beat the Titans today. Ireland has no control of the outcome of todays game or last week against the Colts. Ireland has already made his moves that effect the teams ability to win or lose. We can argue whether or not we have the talent to have a better record. The talent is there, its not where any of us want it to be, but what could we have done differently besides pick up a couple of FA's that other teams didn't want? Would you have drafted anyone differently? We were 3 plays away from 3 more wins. There is no excuse for today's loss, but perhaps this is the first loss to blame Philbin IMO, but who knows! We definitely sucked today.
Keepers: Brian Hartline Anthony Fasano Sean Smith Randy Starks Guys who walk: Reggie Bush Jake Long Tell that "leadership council" they can shove it up their ***.
He has held on to Ireland much longer than he held onto Sparano. So there is no reason for him to hold onto Ireland any longer. Perhaps you forgot that Ross tried to hire a new HC after the 201 season. The only reason Sparano wasn't fired after the 2010 season, was because Harbaugh turned the job down. I don't think Ross has any problem firing people who can't perform their jobs properly. Hopefully he is finally seeing that Ireland is one of those individuals who can't perform at the level needed to get this team beyond mediocre.
I agree with those choices, so long as you're not overpaying Sean Smith. Funny you include Jake Long in that group. I was just doing some quick research on potential left tackle free agents. Two names I'm just floating out there for now: Ryan Clady of Denver, and Jermon Bushrod of New Orleans. Clady, going into the game today, was one of two left tackles who hadn't allowed a sack (Houston's Duane Brown is the other). He's younger, and has been healthier than Long despite coming out in the '08 class as well. He also broke off negotiations with Denver over the summer, so he could be open to moving. If you're going to plan on paying Long a lot of money, why not just shoot for the moon with Clady? He's not as good in run-blocking, but he might be a better fit in this offense with his athleticism; but his pass-pro appears to be better. Bushrod's a solid guy who probably won't break the bank - maybe that allows you to target a Dashon Goldson for the secondary, someone like that - however, Bushrod has said he's open to staying in New Orleans even if that means the franchise tag next offseason. Just food for thought as it relates to the left tackle situation.
Wins and losses continues to be a terrible method for evaluating a GM and had you any other grounds to make your argument you should be able to do so with no issues. It is really ridiculous to think the overall talent of the team changes substantially in your eyes with the difference between wins and losses in many of our games. The difference between Dan Carpenter missing and hitting a field goal does not really change the performances of the rest of the players. It isn't uncommon for teams to make the playoffs without beating a .500 team, either.
Well, I guess it depends on when you think Irelands rein started (I would imagine Ross knows for sure). I know he has been here for five years but the reality (to some) is that Ireland has been running the show for the last two season. 11 of the 15 players Ireland drafted over the past two seasons are with the team.
I am not a huge fan of Bush as a player but you have to love how he handles himself. Works hard at practice, was quoted today as saying the Philbin was right to bench him for the fumble. not often now a days you get players like that.
Rather than letting Long walk, is it possible to franchise tag him then trade him? I'm not advocating that, just interested to see if it's possible.
I'd assume it's possible; I haven't seen anything that restricts a team from trading a tagged player. Whoever Miami would trade Long to would have to trade us picks; and I'd guess that's at least 1 first rounder and something else. I'm not sure what team trades that amount at this point for Jake Long though.
