Not that this season is officially shot, but our playoff chances aren't great at this point. I think most of us will agree we have our QB, so the next question is what weapons will be available to help him out? Notables: RB Chris Ivory Rashad Jennings Johnathon Dwyer Bernard Scott Javon Ringer Rashad Mendenhall WR Steve Smith (car) Emmaneul Sanders Ramses Barden And Cruz, Welker and Wallace, none of which have a good chance of making it to the market TE Martellus Bennett Heath Miller Dustin Keller Jared Cook Zach Miller (haha, kidding)
Keller and the rest seem quite a bit ahead of Cook. I'd feel much more comfortable rolling the dice on anyone else but him.
I think it's pretty unlikely the Dolphins are big players in the free agency market. Joe Philbin has said he prefers as much, and the way they handled this off-season seems to be putting their money where their mouth is. I think for the most part the Dolphins are going to tend towards "insurance" type signings, and young, cheap players with upside and/or past performance.
I agree but I think it's likely we'll at least go after a few of these guys. A lot of these guys certainly won't be breaking the bank either. Def some value there, imo.
Guards: Garrett Reynolds – ATL Rex Hadnot – ARI Andy Levitre – BUF Lance Louis – CHI Shawn Lauvao – CLE Phil Costa – DAL (R) Evan Dietrich-Smith – GB Antoine Caldwell – HOU Joe Reitz – IND (R) Ryan Lilja – KC Nate Garner – MIA Anthony Herrera – MIN Rich Ohrnberger – NE Brian Waters – NE Brandon Moore – NYJ Matt Slauson – NYJ Tyronne Green – SD Louis Vasquez – SD Kevin Matthews – TEN (R) http://nfltraderumors.co/2013-nfl-free-agents/ Waters seems pretty pissed off at NE. Maybe he'd come play here for cheap to stick it to them
I'm going to have to ask you to defend why you wouldn't want a guy who had ~400 catches for 6,200 yards and 50 TDs in the offense run by our current head coach.
Age, injury concerns and he'll most likely be drastically overpaid is plenty for me. If we could get him for cheap then sure, but I think it's highly unlikely.
Age? He's 29, that's not old. Injuries? He missed 6 games in the previous 6 years. Overpaid? He's a guy who has a 15.6 career average with 4 seasons over 16 ypc IN THIS OFFENSE.
We didn't even take Watters the first time around. Despite half the board calling for it. I doubt he'd be interested...
Levitre and Reynolds may be the only two I'd really consider off of that list to be honest. I didn't like Levitre a whole hell of a lot at Tackle when he came out, but as a guard he has above average athleticism.
I wasn't aware our QB was Aaron Rodgers and he was flanked by the deepest WR core in the league. It's not THIS OFFENSE. To think we have Philbin so you just plug in Jennings and he's the same guy as he was in GB is just silly. 29 isn't that old but it def is for a guy who's missed nearly the entire season and will most likely be looking for at least 8-9+ a year.
Dwayne Bowe. I'm not crazy about him but he would give us the red-zone threat we so desperately need. We dont have a single WR or TE who can create any kind of mismatch inside the red-zone. That should be a top priority this off-season. There's also some interesting options at T if we do the smart thing and let Long walk. Don't have much faith in Ireland finding skill position players unfortunately.
lol, we have so many needs its ridiculous. CB, S, multiple WRs, TE, RB, D-End, guard, even tackle if Long leaves. its a good thing we have a good GM to fill all these needs......oh wait.....
Brent Grimes is a player I would like us to take a look at. Good solid corner if he can come back from his injury. Probably available too. There are some quality veterans on this list too but really no one worth breaking the bank for. Quintin Jammer Aquib Talib Tracy Porter I think Marcus Trufant is also a free agent. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Jammer a look. Depite his age he is still playing at a high level.
