http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...m-program-dolphins-um-heat-marlins-notes.html The article just points out how we don't have that much talent on the defensive side of the ball...from NFL scouts.
Must've been some sort of mirage because I could of sworn I just seen a Miami DL actually getting pressure on a QB. Weird.
So this win poses an interesting question. Do you impose a bowl ban, banning the team from playing in both the ACC championship, and potentially the Orange Bowl, which obviously would go a long way with the NCAA and our pending sanctions. Or don't you? Miami beating FSU in the ACCCG and making a BCS bowl in our own stadium would be pretty big for this young team, and would do a lot for recruiting. Very interesting question.
Tough call but I have a feeling the NCAA would just make their judgement stronger if they did another self imposed ban...
I don't see why they would. Miami would be forfeiting a lot by doing so so it would certainly send a message to the NCAA. That being said, I don't expect the sanctions to be that bad anyways. 15-20 schollies over 3 years, probation, and maybe another bowl ban. Basically, less than USC, more than OSU, about the same as UNC. Because of that, I would not self-impose unless we lose in the ACCCG and get a ****ty bowl. Getting another shot at FSU in the ACCCG with the possibility of winning it and being in a BCS bowl, not turning that down at all. Too much positive impact to be had on recruiting. More positive impact than the negative impact we'll get from sanctions, even if we end up with another bowl ban for 2013.
Absolutely! As for the NCAA, I would imagine that they would love nothing more than to stick it to UM. That's why this is taking so long. They've been turning over every pebble under every rock.
Well we can't play the ACCCG and then self impose, it's an ACC rule. I hope we don't. We gotta get these kids a taste of success, not take it away from them.
Plus, I don't wanna see VT get in because UNC and Miami are ineligible and Duke having 4 conf losses. I hate those flucks.
At least he hasn't committed elsewhere yet (FSU, Wisconsin). Anyways, this looked like it was coming for a while though.
I really like Golden but I hope he sees the poor performance of this defense and does two things: 1) Recruits heavily on that side of the ball. 2) Finds himself a better mind to coordinate it.
The d-line doesn't have the ability to create constant pressure. Porter is a difference maker, but he can't play every snap. Chick has been hardly average and Shayon Green isn't a natural DE. And McCord is getting considerable time at DE when he should be shirting, but we don't have the depth to do that. I actually like our secondary. Very young and should be great by 2014. We gotta get someone competent playing alongside Bush, though. Hopefully that may be Jenkins followed by Jamal Carter.
Nice to see a Miami football team on the right side of a game like this. When you only score 9 against us though...damn your offense friggen blows chunks.
I'm thinking we take the self imposed bowl ban route again. Which is sad because I'd love to see this team play a meaningful final regular season game whether it be a win or a loss. However I think it's possible we get no further punishment aside from a few scholarships if we do impose the ban. Two straight bowls seems like plenty of punishment for the "crime". Hopefully the NCAA will let us off easy if we do.
It's official, another ****ing self imposed ban...... "Miami officials said Monday that the university is making what it called an "unprecedented decision" to self-impose a postseason ban for the second straight year, ending any chance of the Hurricanes playing in either the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game or a bowl." I can live with it. Get it out of the way so they only have to deal with scholarship reductions in the future. Should help with recruiting as well.
I hope these self-imposed bans aren't a waste of time. They don't mean the NCAA can't still pass down whatever punishment they want. It'd be nice to know they were going to do this crap when the season started to alleviate the false hope of having a good season and a reason to play for something at the end of it, like an ACC Championship or a Bowl win. But then nobody would care about the season much. This blows, we haven't had a bowl win since Coker was coach years ago.
Better safe than sorry. I'll gladly pass up 6-6 or 7-5 bowl games if it means that if we're good we can play in conf title games and meaningful bowl games. The core is young in general, so they're not going anywhere soon.
If UM gets banned from a Bowl game or self imposes a ban that is a big deal. Everyone knows that the Hurricanes are young and they need to improve. What's the best way to improve? Practice and if you make a bowl game you get to practice more. That IMO is the most significant loss.
Wow, what a joke. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...tion-canes-dolphins-marlins-heat-chatter.html
You have to wonder how much longer it is before someone sues the NCAA. Have they ever send a letter like that before?
No, the NCAA is attempting to leverage players who are no longer under their jurisdiction. They are being given the opportunity to refute what Shapiro has said, and if they don't take it, then the NCAA will have to believe what Shapiro is telling them. It is a very heavy handed approach, which may blow up in their faces as not one **** will be given by a NFL player that their college career gets wiped out due to extra benefits.
Not quite! How many times do you think that the NCAA has been told one side of a story which they could not prove and did nothing? They're attempting to screw the University of Miami and thats a fact. They even admit it as such. Not that they will be forced to believe a felon but that, by not showing up, they will be considered quilty. They already believe the convicted felon!
I actually get the paper delivered so I read the entire thing before it was placed here. There is no real evidence provided to them. Why do you think they've waited this long? Because the former players will not talk to them. Because it is within their rights not to! So the NCAA is saying they will act on the word of one side. In a court of law, this case would be laughed at for the most part and slaps on the wrist would be handed out. But the NCAA is saying they can do what they want. The reason behind it? If they can get a few of the players to cave in then they can, do what they've wanted to all along, and that's throw the book at UM.
Or, the NCAA has been waiting on former players to come forward with their side of the story(again, not obligated to say **** to the NCAA) to complete the investigation. In a court of law, this would more than likely be a civil matter, where there is a lower burden of proof, and summary judgements when the other side doesn't show up.
And why has the NCAA waited sooooooo long? Miami self imposed sanctions. Twice! The NCAA waits and waits and waits. Then sends out letters to try and force former players to talk. They also use a seldom used rule so they can go back more than the 4 years. Yet they settle a case pretty fast for a high profile school where a players parents were given a HOUSE. Then they settle another case very swiftly where players were given tats and a car. Miami, self imposes sanctions, which is an admition of some guilt, and the NCAA wants it all....
