Look how amazing he looks with a great offensive line and playmakers against the Chicago Bears.

That Bears defense looks like they're laying an egg.

I really think the 9ers are playing so well because their o-line is just dominant. They have the best o-line in the NFL!

You are seriously underestimating the Kapper's big play ability. The kid is a stud with his feet, arm, character, leadership...can't say enough good things about him.

Good thing I made a bet against my cousin, who is a 49ers fan when there were talks of possible playoff berth back then.

The talent of that 49nrs team vs the Dolphins is like night and day. If that team can make Alex Smith look pro bowl, Kapernick should do at least as good.

Having 3 1st rounders that aren't inept at blocking helps a lot.

Steal of that draft IMO. I thought he would be Harbaugh's guy, but Alex Smith seems to be that for now.....

Staley was a door hinge his rookie yr, it comes with the job.

Kaepernick also sat for awhile and stepped into a playoff caliber offense not unlike Henne in his frst yr as our starter.

Hard to imagine that anyone who watched this game would think this was a situation in which a team carried a young QB. Yes, the 49ers have talent, but Kaepernick is the real deal. Calm, poised, leader, humble, able to extend plays with his feet, can run like an all-pro running back, and that arm of his...HOLY COW! Pretty sure Moss got a dislocated finger. The TD throw to Crabtree as he rolled left and through against the grain shows how physically gifted he is. Was drafted by the Cubs as a pitcher as he could throw in 90s.

Alex Smith just can't compete with the Kapper when it comes to big play ability. The only reason I can see Harbaugh going back to Smith is he wants to try and win with defense, running game and no turnovers. As long as Colin doesn't turn the ball over no way Smith can compete as a playmaker. Hopefully, the Kaepernick era has begun in SF!

This was done against the Bears defense which had 30 turnovers coming in to this game...well, and leaving this game.

It is one game, but it was highly impressive. He played an elite defense, and played great.

Man, I can't imagine what that team would look like had they signed Manning.

The elite defense didn't play elite tonight and that wasn't because of Kaepernick.

I'm not slighting Kaepernick's performance tonight in the least but might I remind you of what people were asserting when the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chad Henne were also making big throws? If you were present during that time, whether it be in the Mains or in the Club Level, I don't need further elaboration.

It's too early to say for sure, but..you know I loved the kids game and would of drafted him.

What I don't understand is why Sherman won't let Ryan play a little option read stuff like Harbaugh is doing with CKap, maybe they are feeding him incrementally, and the pocket comes first.

Not to veer off-topic but how about Aldon Smith? 28 sacks in 26 career games.

I never seen such a over-reaction to one performance. Half of the ppl(not here, but in general) saying CK is the next big thing, never saw him throw a single NFL pass until last night. Frankly, that's the best I've seen CK ever throw the ball. One of his biggest issues so far in his short NFL career has been his accuracy, intermediate to deep. He was money last night, but I'm not going to say he'll look like that every game. He's been far too inconsistent up til this point to say that.

But it was more about what the Bears didn't do. The Bears didn't disguise their coverage early and they paid for it. Roman started out giving CK simple reads. We went with a lot of heavy sets, play-action out of those which brought CK extra time and usually left a mis-match(mainly VD) open. Those first couple of throws were nicely set-up to give CK some early success. Then CK made some nice sight adjustments and audible to a couple of quick slants. Nothing earth-shattering. But the Bears never confused CK...except for that sack where they showed blitz then dropped into coverage. No defense from here on out would approach CK the same way. They never made CK second guess anything he was seeing. Very surprised by the Bears approach. Most of his throws were to his primary reads and he was put in formations where saw mainly base personnel.....they basically simplified his reads. He did a great job with those reads. But he will have to prove he can make those throws against more complex fronts and coverages. More diverse defensive packages that Alex has proven already this year that he can shred a couple of times this year already.

If Alex Smith is healthy, he is still the best QB for this team. People haven't noticed that aside from the Giants game, Alex has been playing some very good football. Harbaugh surprised me with his comments after the game. Probably the dumbest thing to come out of his mouth since being named Niner coach. Last thing this team needs is a QB controversy and he just started one. But no DC from here on out will approach CK the same way. Once more tape gets around of CK and defenses adjust to taking away some things he likes to do, will we be able to properly judge if he's ready to lead this team. But one game, does not a NFL career make or break. He still has much to prove. There's no reason to rush this kid into the lineup. I don't why a lot ppl are trying to.

Interesting that Harbaugh says he may go with the hot hand, with no regard for Smiths feelings...

To go with this kid, in this season, would be ballsy, fun, and maybe depressing for me.

this is how I felt about your guy pre-draft..

"People continue to bash him, undervalue him, disrespect him with inferior prospects, and put poor projections out there on where he would be drafted, and its not just this site, there is a real large discrepency in value when it comes to this player..obviously very frustrating, and somewhat lonely the past 3 4 months considering my and a few others excitement for the player..

Were all on the record for all these prospects, I feel good about mine and the work I have put into them, especially Ckap..Ive written thousands of words on the kid, there is a thread on the first page of this forum about his stock, has a lot of good info in it...I know a few others {Hurricane, Raf} share my thoughts on him..

''Hes got arm talent, and arm athleticism, he can throw from different variations...when I watch all his reps on screens, bubbles and seam routes, his ball is usually in nice position for the receiver, you can see his aim more clearly than others, puts it with the right amount of lead and velocity on the short stuff, he can take some off the ball when necessary so that the ball is catchable and he's not one way with his motion and trajectory like Henne..basically, with all that hes got going for him when it comes to raw talent and elite athleticism for a man his size, bottom line, he's accurate.

Accuracy...I believe the Player has natural accuracy, has a very nice finish towards his target, the follow thru is so important when it comes to accuracy, and his, combined with his outstanding athleticism relative to his size and position, is why im truly excited about the player, this is not a run first mentality type kid were talking about here, he loves to throw the football, and is not shy on any throw, and, when he does decide to run, he's outstanding, graceful, aggressive, The dude attacks the los better than any QB in this draft, including Newton.

Reading defenses?...Its hard to tell because of the offense, just as hard as it is for most of the guys in this draft, but I'll tell ya this, there are instincts there that I trust when he plays the game, a feel for the position, an awareness of whats developing, he just does'nt make a lot of mistakes in coverage, and has the feet to buy himself time to reset and deliver.. did not come close to double digit int's all four years.

In a draft where all the QB's are developmental to some degree, I believe with the overall skillset that he brings to the table, with elite upside staring you in the face, above and below the neck, he's the QB that I want most, and we don't have to trade up to get him.."

Yes but they did not play like it. Want to ask Major Wright how his technique was? Or ask Brian Urlacher where his gap discipline was? Or Lance Briggs why he was having far too many issues covering shallow crosses? How about Stephen Paea about why he was getting sunken like a ferry inside the burly bellies of the San Francisco interior linemen?

That has little to do with Kaepernick and as I wrote earlier, that's not a knock on him. He played well. He executed the gameplan.

Does Chicago pattern match? If so, the gameplan was perfect. You beat it with crossing routes to keep guys from jumping routes and create holes through poor route pass offs.

Colin played a great game. Even if he is only asked to make simple throws and the game plan is slightly dumbed down, his ability to keep plays alive with his legs makes him a pain in the *** for the opposition.

I just got a funny thought watchin Harbaugh in a presser, that he and Smith are punking everyone..lol.

I mean he's putting a guy that almost had a perfect game, on the bench, for this kid, it's either he thinks the concussion could make Smith a but hesitant, and not worth the risk, or he thinks Ckap is the sh&$, and doesn't care what anyone thinks..

I know a few people around here said he'd be the best pass rusher in that draft. I actually wanted him more then any QB last year. I wasnt sure he'd be this good. this quick though...

Im not sure Alex is the best QB for that team. Alex is a very limited player in that there are certain throws and certain situations you can tell they just dont trust him in. I dont question his physical toughness but I question his mental toughness. I question his ability to go out and win a game for you in a big spot (NYG playoffs last year comes to mind when your D played tremendous and Smith couldnt do anything vs a mediocre NYG back 7). Many teams are inclined to go with a veteran when the team is close. I think given the choices SF has, Id go with C Kap. And I wasnt a proponent of drafting him. You know what you have in Alex Smith, which is a player who only gets you to a certain point.
