http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-...4735248/belichick-points-out-miami-playmakers Ahh, he does this every year, probably with every team, but hey, what the hell? It is true.
Every year, teams about to play the Patriots get a big confidence boost during the week leading up to the game. Then during the game itself, they get a crushing blow to their confidence. Take nothing Bill Belichick says about his upcoming opponents seriously. Every player on the team he's about to play is an All Pro and the Patriots will be lucky if they can just contain him.
I wonder why he never mentioned any play makers on our defense. Oh, that's right, I remember. The game last year where they nullified Wake with a rookie RT by having him fall down on top or hold him on every damn play and not get called for it. Funny how that trend is continuing into this year. Seems all teams, now, are allowed to hold Wake in even more interesting ways. I have seen lineman drape their arms around his neck and pull him down like it is the WWE/WWF to playing dosey doe; swing your partner round, and many more. I still say Wake needs to start jawing at the refs more and get their attention. Oh, and I hope Starks and Soliai shove Mankins and Wendell right up Brady's *** the very first time Brady turns to hand the ball off.
Alternately, you shouldn't get overly dismissive or treat it like its some super top secret Belichick ploy. Every coach does these interviews and talks about good players on opposing teams, it's just disproportionately noted when Belichick does it.
Q: It’s been a little bit of time since Mike Sherman has been in the NFL. Do you see a lot of stuff from his Green Bay days mixed with some of the stuff he picked up on the college level? BB: I think there’s no doubt that they’re a West Coast based system, that’s clear. But, I’d say that really over the years, that offense has evolved to being unique to whoever is running it, whether it’s Mike Holmgren or Andy Reid or Jon Gruden or [Mike] Shanahan or whoever it happens to be – Mike Sherman or [Mike] McCarthy. They all kind of have their own – they’ve adapted it, especially in the running game. Some of the elements of the passing game are the same but as it’s gone to more of a one-back league, that’s changed some of the passing game that was a lot of two-back passing in the old West Coast Offense. That’s been modified. Certainly there’s carryover from what Mike did at Texas A&M; certainly there’s carryover from what Joe [Philbin] did at Green Bay. How exactly that breaks down, I don’t know. You probably have to talk to them but I would say there are elements of both. There’s a lot more ‘check with me’ or audibling or changing the play or whatever you want to call it. That was really never a part of, like Bill Walsh’s offense. They would maybe audible once a game, maybe, against a blitz look that wasn’t their system. That’s different now. Green Bay does it, these guys do it. Again, it’s evolved. I think each one is a little bit different.
Just reading what Belichick says shows you why he's such a successful coach. He sees and analyzes so many things, whether in a player's game or how a whole unit functions.
I remember how he used to talk about Ronnie Brown. You would think he was Jim Brown and Walter Payton incarnate.
Bill Belichick: 1) is a scholar & a gentleman, a class act 2) one of the all-time top coaches in the history of the game. hands down the best coach in the NFL today. 3) he consistently makes chicken-salad out of chicken ****, which has resulted in NE being the team of the decade & then some, a perennial play-off team. 4) Belichick respects & prepares for all opposition on game day. 5) the real game will be played out between Philbin & Belichek on Sunday. let's see how our rising rookie-star coach does against the best. Miami has to have the right game plan, then make the adjustments necessary during the game & the players have to be on there mark to win. Miami by 3
I'll be interested in how Pouncey fares against Wilfork. It will be a key part of the matchups. Hope he can do well.
Wilfork will put in a dominant performance from time to time but I think Belichick inexplicably keeping him on the field for like 90% of snaps is running the wear off the tires prematurely. It's also possible he doesn't line up much opposite him.
Because Belichick's praise is disproportionately higher than other coaches' feeble attempts to avoid creating bulletin board material. You take a leap from the fact that all coaches engage in the act to therefore asserting that all coaches are equal, or at least equivalent, in their skill at that act.
Is he wrong in his claims? On Miami's roster, those are the offensive playmakers when they're present on the field, no? History shows he's improved as the season has gone on, particularly in the expiring weeks. I read about it recently somewhere, although I've forgotten where.
how is he a class act? Ask Ted Johnson if he is? class acts don't cheat with the frequency this ***$hole does.... I hate Pats week up here, I swear I nearly flip out every single time....
Undoubtedly, he's no class act, more like a despot, but let's not pretend he's the only one who has cheated. He might've been the only one to get caught, but there's a list of names that have admitted to it, most notably Jimmie Johnson - who was no class act either - and Bill Cowher - who, along with his employer, stands for everything that is right in the NFL, supposedly. By the way, has anyone ever wondered if Belichick is a Marxist to some degree? Odd thought, I know, but one that I wonder; it adds up in some ways.
I think anecdotally there's at least something to that given the performance vs. the Ravens last year, but it still seems a bit inefficient and something that'll run him down long-term. Then again, at a certain point you've got some of these big ****ers playing well until they are in their mid to late 30's. Maybe you can afford to run them into a ground and still get a use out of them with reduced athleticism.
No, but I'd be curious to hear why, at the risk of this conversation going in a bizarre POFO direction. As bad a reputation as it gets politically I've had an interest in some of the academic applications.
Our sprinkler system's range is one of the best in the league; they get around the field effortlessly, which allows for top notch coverage ability.
I suppose I shouldn't have asked that here then. Apologies to the mods and admins. The reputation it receives, however, is rather interesting...I don't agree with the reputation and I'll leave it at that. You can PM me though.
Here's what I wish he would say, because you know he wants to: Reporter: Coach, thoughts on Miami this weekend? BB: We're going kick the **** out of them. One end of the stadium to the other. Secondary sucks. Brady's gonna eat them alive. Running game, not concerned. Rookie QB doesn't scare me. Gonna make them kick FG's all day because their kicker appears to be having a bad season. Gonna hold Wake all day because it never gets called. Been watching tape on Jake Long. We're going to speed rush him to the outside and then bull rush him because it's all in his head. Yeah, our secondary sucks, but who scares me? Fasano? Right. How many drops on 3rd down does he have this year? Bess and Hartline? Meh. Good possesion recievers, but they can't get downfield on THIS secondary. Anything else?
You know what...? he disrespected Brandon Fields ability by not mentioning him, not mentioning how important he is to our overall team concept.... So I hope Brandon Fields shows him just how good a punter he is.
I am not looking forward to either of those days.. I say they both leave the same year for retirement. (Sad day for NE fans for then we will be where miami was looking for either another great HC or another HOF caliber QB or both.. sigh) Why you have to enjoy the runs when your team has them never know when they will end or come back again!
