He's just a guy I would have a hard time rooting for. Kind of like how I'd imagine it would be tough for a Yankee fan to root for Youkilis if he was on the Yanks for example.

Schilling is the only player in my mind that I would have a hard time actually rooting for......well him and Jeff Ireland...:shifty:

Haren's back and hip are a mess, hence why he not only was let go by the Angels, and the Cub trade fell through, but why he signed a 1 year deal. I'd be surprised he made 30 starts in 2012. Word is his medicals are pretty bad.

But hey IF he can stay healthy that contract is a steal. And it's smart of him (and his agent) to go to the NL and try to reestablish his value. Especially in the NL East where the offense is kind of weak right now.

I understand his injury history but it's such a great deal. The reward far outweighs the risk in signing him.

Assuming he passes the physical, yes I agree it's a pretty good deal.

You can never have too much pitching. I think LaRoche, obviously, is the key to Morse's future with Washington.

Gio. Zimmerman. Haren. Strasberg. I guess with Harens health concerns they could still be looking for a top pitcher. But they could easily put Moorse in LF and roll out a very good staff already

There's no room for Morse in the OF as they have Harper, Span and Werth. So if LaRoche is re-signed Morse is a goer, if not Morse plays 1B.

Regarding Haren's medicals, word is the Red Sox reviewed them and decided to pass. Not saying that means anything but at least 1 team with money to spend decided the risk wasn't worth it, well that makes at least 3 (Sox, Cubs, Angels).

Ah your right. I seem they got Span ad forgot. Although I'd much rather have Morse in LF then Span. But I agree with you.

Seems like he's been in the league for forever and he has been. Just checking out his BaseballReference page I had no idea he was originally drafted by the Cubs then traded to the A's for Miguel Cairo. Also got to play in 3 straight WS winning a title in 2007 with the Sox and in 2009 with the Yankees. Former 2002 ROTY winner too, which also happened to be his best year.

Only played on 6 teams in 10 years although he's been with 8 organizations in 12 years.

Red Sox might sign Victorino for 3 years, 37.5 million dollars. Not a good signing, IMO.

39 million dollars to Shane Victorino over three years. Wow. I am not sure I would let Him play in my outfield for free, let alone that much scratch. I hated that he came back to L.A. last year. By far my least favorite non Giants player.

Speaking of which, 40 million for Angel f'n Pagan? Bananas.

Marco Scutaro got $20 million over three years from the Giants. The giants just dropped 60 million on Angel Pagan and Marco Scutaro. Cripes.

Greinke is going to get 180 million.

Welp. Not sure how I feel about this deal. Like Escobar as a player. Hate him as a person. But we didn't give up much and it gives us more flexibility with zobrist.

I know what Escobar did but it really shouldn't change your opinion on him as a player. He's an average player with a bad bat because of his defense. When he hits, he's an above average/ good player with his defense. He's shown he can hit. On top of that, he's on really good contract.

  30. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

    For him, sure.

The second half of last year isn't the norm. He is a light hitting OLD second basemen. They are paying him for last year, which is always dangerous. I guess it pays (literally) to get hot in the playoffs and be a free agent in a horrid 2nd basemen class.

I am okay with the Giants trying to repeat with that team though. I won't work. The bullpen was insanely better than their career stats prove them to be, and outside of Buster and Pedro, they still don't have a lot of pop in that lineup. And I assume they won't be juiced like a certain someone was last year for the majority of the season.

You think so? A 37 year old who was awful in Colorado and had a good few months with the Giants mainly due to a high BA signing a 3 year deal? He doubled his last contract he signed at age 34 and got an extra year.

I think it had more to do with him personally than the amount of money on his contract.

How exactly is Gomes a bad character guy? I admit I didn't like him as an opposing player (mainly since he always seemed like he was in the middle of bench clearing incidents) but all of his past teammates and managers/coaches absolutely love the guy and all say he's an extremely high character guy. Comparing him with Escobar is simply wrong.

The contract length for Scutaro may have been a year too long, but he's basically an average 2nd baseman making 6 million a season. That's the rate for an average player in today's game, no?

I don't think you can look at it that way though. Age absolutely has to be a factor in it and he basically got this contract based off of the small sample of what he did in SF in the 2nd half, which is a matter of 77 games and 338 plate appearances (including the postseason) yet ignoring how bad he was at the beginning of the year in a hitters ballpark in Colorado. Which again his SF numbers were inflated big time due to a high BA because Scutaro's best asset is that he's a high contact hitter. He doesn't hit for average or power, doesn't run and doesn't walk. He has limited range but a good glove but again at age 37 to 40 do you think those skills will still be there? If he loses even a little bit of bat speed then his best skill is at a disadvantage.

If it was a 1 year deal I would like it, 2 years might be pushing it but 3 years is just silly. Again he only got a 2 year deal at year 34, did those 77 games in SF really justify him getting a 3rd year?

But again this is SF who we're talking about and if you're a veteran no matter how old or good you are they will sign you.
