Oh I'm sure Nolan could have done a great job with The Riddler or really any of the Batman villains. I just think Bane was always his first choice, which is why we got Bane instead.

Fair enough. I'm just saying in general terms when you think of qualities people possess or don't it really doesn't make sense.

For instance does he not realize how many children he is hurting? They said he protected her because of "innocence". Were the children of Gotham not innocent?

Then Talia....I dont get her at all. "YOU KILLED MY FATHER (who btw I didn't like, and denied the only person who ever cared about me) SO NOW IM DESTROYING GOTHAM!" "Oh and the guy he shunned and threw out like trash is helping me!"

Like I said I loved the movie, but Bane IMO wasn't a crucial enough character to be a "must"....

The movie just had too good of a recipe to be bad no matter who the villain .

That's what you're missing though. Talia and Bane's reasoning for destroying Gotham was because they felt it was for the greater good. Their mission (like Ras') was to destroy Gotham so it could rebuild itself. Don't forget that Talia and Bane were willing to die as well with the entire city. Batman even said to Talia about hurting innocent people and she said said something like innocent has a lot of meanings (I'm paraphrase because I don't remember the actual quote but it was brought up). The League of Shadows was a group of radicals much like the radical groups in real life who had no problem crashing into buildings in planes but I'm sure if their people/families were threaten they would take exception to it.

He's the only villan to physically challenge and beat Batman, I'd say that's pretty crucial.

I meant crucial as in make or break the movie.

    Their reasoning makes no sense.

There are how many cities outside Gotham? After they died things would go back to status quo, it wouldn't have rebuilt itself in any way shape or form.

I got no sense of greater good in anything they said or did. Bane kept talking about making the people have hope and believe before dying. That doesn't fit in at all.

Exactly. Give me another ten minutes explaining him and another ten minutes of him talking to Batman in some way/shape or form and suddenly the movie is probably an 8 in my eyes.

IMO Another good title for the movie would have been "How Batman got his groove back" Half joking here...

Watch the movie again, they even said it in regards to the greater good etc. Watch Batman Begins again, their mission was the same as Ras'. They felt the city was too corrupt and they need to restore balance within the city. And if the bomb went off the city would have to rebuild itself, I think they said 12 million people would have died.

And Bane was lying to the people, he was trying to break Bruce and the city's soul by giving them false hope.

What more did you want or need for his backstory? He was born in the prison, saved Talia, was injuried saving her, was rescued by Ras, trained by the League of Shadows, kicked out of the League and once Ras died, him and Talia decided to complete Ras' mission of destroying Gotham. It's pretty simple. The less we know about the villains the better, the mystery in them is part of the appeal.

I'm actually surprised more people didn't want more of Selina's backstory.

Personally I'm fine with not knowing much about either character, what we were given was plenty.

Why does he save Talia? I wanted to see more of his history, injuries and training (which they filmed but cut). I'd also want to see him figuring out who Batman was instead of just already knowing when he gets there.

That and of course his death and that 2nd fight scene was complete garbage.

I know what they said, I'm just saying their actions and beliefs were inconsistent with eachother.

Why does he save Talia? Maybe because the other prisoners were going to most likely rape and kill her like they did to her mother if he didn't? Do we really need the reasoning behind it though?

And like Dupree said, he knew because Bruce was trained by the League of Shadows, it was common knowledge he was Batman among that group. Plus Bane and Talia were planning this mission for at least 3 years so he already knew who Batman was way before he even stepped foot in Gotham as Talia knew Batman/Bruce "killed" Ras. If Bane had to figure out Bruce was Batman it would make him look like a fool.

I just get the feeling like you just wanted to see a different movie. I don't understand why you'd want to see his training. Who cares? He was trained by the League of Shadows, we saw Bruce get trained by them in BB, it was probably the same exercises, etc. And we saw Bane get injured by the prisoners. That stuff was cut for a reason, it probably just didn't fit with the pacing of the movie.

Their actions and beliefs weren't inconsistent with each other though. Just because Bane saved Talia yet has no problem killing 12 million people in Gotham doesn't mean his actions were inconsistent.

Sure we do. Any time a villan does something out of character the audience wants a logical explanation. We wanted to see more depth from him and adding all those things would of given him a chance to show it.

FINALLY saw this movie in IMAX this weekend, lousy work schedule for the past few months. All in all, sure there could have been changes, but the one thing I can immediately think of that I would have loved to see, and it's small, but:
At the very end when Alfred sits down at the table, I truly wish it would have just ended with him looking up and peering across the room at someone. then BAM, credits. With all the "oh the autopilot was fixed" etc it was plenty easy to ASSUME bruce wayne was alive, but it would have been cool if he 'inception'ed' it and just left a little sliver of doubt as to whether he truly survived the bomb and whether alfred was looking at him or just an empty table

Oh and also, a huge *** nuclear bomb doesn't create a massive tidal wave exploding just feet over the surface of the ocean? c'mon.

I actually saw the movie for a 3rd and probably final time over the weekend myself, since I figured it wouldn't be in theaters much longer. Still loved the movie and still finding things I missed during the previous 2 viewings. I really need to go back and watch all 3 movies so I can truly gauge which one I like the best out of the 3.

As far as your "endings" I think it was important for the audience to actually see Bruce Wayne at the end, so there isn't any kind of "is he or isn't he alive" questions (although I still have heard people think he's really dead and Alfred is dreaming it or tricking himself into thinking he sees Bruce). Plus we see Bruce with Selina so we know he has that happy ending.

If I were to change something about the ending I would have liked to see Gordon get a happy ending as well, we know from the beginning of the film his wife and kids are in Cleveland, it would have been nice to hear a throwaway line at the end after he sees the new Bat signal something like "Hey Jim, your wife and kids just arrived".

I wouldn't believe all of these TDKR Director's Cut DVD/BluRay rumors. Nolan is very particular about his movies, especially DVD releases. He doesn't even include deleted scenes, alternative takes, outtakes or director's commentary. He says he feels what people see in the theater is what they're suppose to see.

But hey it would be great if there was an extended addition but I just think it's wishful thinking.

EDIT: This "rumor" turns out to be completely false according to people with direct knowledge to Nolan and WB.

On WB's YouTube Channel there's a trailer for TDKR Blu-Ray. Says the release date is December 3rd. So there you have it, can't wait to buy it and rewatch it again. I think it's one of those movies that just gets better each time you view it as there's so much going on you keep picking up little things, which is true for all Nolan films really.

EDIT: Now it doesn't say it anymore. Weird.

It's official, WB announced yesterday that TDKR will be available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Copy on 12/4! They will also be releasing a DVD and BluRay Trilogy box set. And they have also announced another "Ultimate Edition" trilogy set will be released sometime in 2013.

My advice is to get the DVD/BluRay/Digital Copy combo pack and wait until 2013 to get the Ultimate Edition set as the trilogy box set released in December will likely have the same special features the previous BB and TDK dvds/blurays already have.

Anyway can't wait for the 4th so I can rewatch TDKR in HD and be able to pause and slow the movie down to catch anything I might have missed the 3 previous viewings.

Not sure if you're talking about the one being released in Dec '12 or the one in 2013 but I would wait for the 2013 one. My guess is it will be loaded with new extras and materials. Perhaps director commentary and deleted scenes, something Nolan doesn't like to include. There has to be something new/different for the 2013 set. Otherwise you can also get the Dec 2012 set, probably at a cheaper price if the 2013 set turns out to be a dud or at most the same set.

My guess is the 2013 set will have director commentary and also some documentaries on each movie, perhaps the making of, decisions, back stories from Nolan, the writers and actors themselves. Again just a guess but it has to be different than the 2012 set or it won't make any sense why they would even release it.

I'm honestly not big on bonus features and such, I can find that elsewhere. Just want the movies in Blu-Ray (I have the first 2 on DVD), so I might as well get all in one.

Just went to Target and picked up the DVD/Blu Ray/UltraViolet combo pack (I'm waiting for the Ultimate Edition to come out next year or I would have been all over The Dark Knight Trilogy one), stinks I have to wait to watch it until tonight. Also stinks that it's an Ultraviolet instead of just a digital copy.

Very excited to finally see this movie at my house where I can stop and replay things I might have missed.

So what kind of extras are there?

Just watched it again (3rd time now) and I have a lower opinion of the film now. It's still good, but could have been so much better. This time I hated Bane, mostly because of his ******ed voice.

I dont like the ending. It's still open for Bruce Wayne to return from the dead (wouldn't be the first time), but just seems to me that the end could have been better.

Maybe I have that opinion because of Nolan saying that he was done with the franchise. I'm sure if he was open to do a 4th then it is set up VERY WELL, but knowing that its probably going to be reboot, it just feels incomplete.

They left it wide open for Robin to take over the cowl, but I really wish they would have shown him either try it on, or come up with a Beyond costume, with Alfred in the mix. It probably will never happen but I'd love to see a 4th movie with Bats coming back and teaching Robin, and letting him become Nightwing. JGL would make the perfect Nightwing IMO.

I think we are to assume she got it while training or on a mission for the League of Shadows. I don't think the scar itself as far as how or why she had it is really important. I think it's just there for the viewer watching for the 1st time to question it but then forget about it until she reveals herself at the end.
