I've come to respect Dilfers analysis, I think he does the work, and is the best analyst on that network, works with a lot of young qbs studying them. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...o-49ers-turnaround-should-provide-hope/nTQhp/ “I like what the Dolphins are doing. I’m a big outsider fan of the Dolphins,” said former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer, now an ESPN analyst who lives in the Bay Area. “I think Ireland’s done a better job, and I really like (Joe) Philbin, I think he’s a fantastic coach.” “They’re not nearly as quick a turnaround as maybe the Niners were, although you get the QB – and they hit on the QB – it makes it easier.” Until a month ago, the 49ers relied on quarterback Alex Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in 2005 who found success last season under coach Jim Harbaugh. But Smith suffered a concussion Nov. 11 against St. Louis and Harbaugh has turned to the more dynamic Kaepernick. Tannehill, No. 8 overall pick this spring, won his job in training camp. Dilfer thinks Tannehill is the key to a turnaround. “He’s a fantastic player. I think he’s going to be an absolute rock star in this league,” Dilfer said. “When you have a quarterback like they have in Tannehill, they can mask some flaws for a while while you rebuild the roster.”
That's what I was thinking, but it seems like a pretty poor attempt to me considering we were better off not drafting those QBs as he suggested. None would've started from day 1 over Henne, and Moore ended up being the best QB option outside of Cam Newton.... and by passing on them we're left with Tannehill who trumps that entire group.
I like Tanny as well. But Colin is no slouch, and am I the only one who expected RT to be a tad bit faster??
Trent. ****ing. Dilfer. Is going to look at this... He's THE most cheeze-ball QB to win a SB. He will never even smell the urine from the urinals of the HoF, yet he's an expert. Take your ring you rode from your D and gtfo.
Nope, not really impressed. I don't see that "it" factor. I hope I am wrong but Tannehill most likely will evolve into a Trent Dilfer, Carson Palmer type QB. Good but not great. Lets just hope this doesn't make the team good but not great for another 10 years
LOL Dilfer is disqualified because he wasnt a top 5 all time qb? I guess under your thinking Shula sucked as a coach cause he wasnt a top 5 all time player. What the hell does his not being Marino makes him unqualified to speak on the qb poasition? I guarentee Dilfer knows more about the qb position than anyone on this board
Trent Dilfer shouldn't be knocked because he wasn't a good player, but he isn't a very good analyst either. My favorite anecdote about Trent Dilfer is that he was pretty delusion about his performance in Super Bowl XXXV, and his daughters had to sit him down and show him the game again before he admitted he wasn't very good.
lol..did he really analyze himself on tv and say he played well.? I think he shows some good qualities as an analyst, I don't know his record but I've know him to be right on certain things which got my attention, I knows he works a ton with Qbs in helping them, and I know he watches a lot of film before he speaks on an individual player. I posted this because I hope he's right.
I find it funny that people here actually. Thin they know more than a guy that played in the league. Not saying many arent smart but. He jas the perspective off seeing on the field watching game film rec'd coaching etc. His. Knowledge base is much more extensive. But since hee disagrees with a pos he isnt as smart or was wronng in past so must be wrong now
one common denominator with retired qbs as broadcasters and such they are way more optimistic about the qbs than anyone else.i have never heard a retired qb say this or that qb is terrible ,they are maddeningly optimistic.
Clearly he's not as astute as the geniuses on this forum. If he had any fraction of a clue he'd already see that Tannehill is a bust.
This is why you show Dilfer's fallibility by using his own track record in this area, which I did above, rather than trying to position yourself as some sort of greater authority on the matter, which neither I nor anyone else here is.
....... and which one of your numerous fallibilities should we use to show your track record?... if we're being fair here.... since you brought it up and all.
The 49er turnaround comment is kind of funny. We only need another dominating pass rush DL; two monster LB's; a revamped D-backfield; An OT and a monster LG like Iupati; and then a big strong WR .... and, Bob's your uncle, the 49ers! That should tell you how great a job Ireland has done in 4 years. That, and Danario Alexander.
LOL now thats funny. Not knocking anyone but not playing the game not being part of that process, not having that coaching then cant get that perspective. He also coaches/teaches position.. So as many pointed out numerous other times just because it doesnt fit your opinion doesnt mmean he is wrong
Uhm, Tannehill is not very good folks, screw Dilfer, go with what you see during games. 80% of "Analysis" is utter pablum.
Tannehill has not been great but the question is how much can he improve. I thought he played well yesterday. There is only so much eh can do when we are forced to throw deep to the collection of receivers we have now. No turnovers on the road against that defense is a pretty good day. Will he ever be Luck or RGIII? I doubt it, but that doesn't mean he can't or won't be a franchise QB in the Matt Ryan/Phil Rivers vein; really good QBs who are just below elite status that can certainly win a Super Bowl. He is already better then the likes of Ponder/Gabbert/Locker and that dumpster fire of a qB class two years ago (sans Newton)
Now matt moore hes a franchise qb forget what you see in this case. Go with whattever fits yyour argument
Throw..the ball...in the air...for Td's Not that hard really, for Tannehill he just is not good at it.
Not at all relevant. Attempting to use Dilfer's past viewpoint prior to their draft, the new coaching staff and new direction of the team now that they DID draft a QB to dismiss his altered view of the team now is pointless. Some posts on here get to the point where it seems more like a debating game for people who like to throw wrenches in things and see where everything goes rather than an actual discussion of issues. Posting games. Bottom line is that were at an early juncture with Tannehill and the team overall. Pieces are missing and other pieces need developing. Whether they do or not only time will tell.
