Interesting. I almost think he's a bit old. The guy who played Prince Caspian seemed a natural fit to me, but he's probably tied up.
Are you serious!?!?! WTF!!!! He's called the Prince of Persia, not the Prince of Sleepy-Eyed Caucasian Wusiness. Booooooo!! I knew in the back of my mind they would find a way to screw the pooch on this one....
that was what i thought... i mean he is supposed to be persian... gyllenhall is not a good cast... i'd like to nominate jason taylor
Right?? At the very least, get some unknown Middle Eastern actor and see how he does; he doesn't even have to be Iranian (since that is who the current day Persians are.) Gyllenhaal is the epitome of upper-crust white America. What next? They cast Jolie as the Indian princess?? I had such high hopes for this movie...it really is a good story, especially the first part of the trilogy. *BTW Q, if you haven't read it yet, David Mamet's new book is well worth a look at. I posted about it in another thread, but no one replied to it.
Yeah, that one (it was 'new' to me ). I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't put it down. Problem is, I have no one to corroborate/confirm/deny or even discuss the book with. No one I know has/would read it. But, compared to Jake 'Brokeback' Gyllenhaal being cast as the PoP*, I can deal with a few unanswered questions. *That crap still burns me...even Bollywood would have done a better job IMO. At the very least, they would have had an Indian princess. (Even if it did turn into a musical.)
There are at least 20 other actors Id goto before "Brokeback Boy". The bad guy from SWAT (also the dude Richard Gere kills in 'Unfaithful') might be my top choice.
YEah Mamet has an awesome ability to approach filmmaking in a sort of grouchy artistic way. I sometimes love it, sometimes hate it... It does confirm my ever growing theory that maybe film school was a waste of money.
Kingsley Is Persia's Villain Ben Kingsley will play the villain in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's big-screen adaptation of the Ubisoft video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Variety reported. In the fantasy action movie, Kingsley portrays Nizam, who plots to kill his brother, King Shahrman, and blame it on Prince Dastan so he can take the throne. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the prince, while Gemma Arterton and Alfred Molina round out the leads. http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=3&id=55492
Since this hasn't been updated in awhile I thought I'd post the trailer that I just saw. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8EA7EbFX4k"]YouTube- Prince of Persia Film Official Movie Trailer HD[/ame] It looks like they really stay close to the story, and when he activates the sand it looks a lot like the game animation. It also seems that they stay very true to the free running on the wall and the bickering love story between the prince and princess. It seems like it could be a good movie and Bruckheimer usually makes good stuff but I agree with other that I don't know about Jake as the Prince.
