I am seeing a lot of that myself around the draft sites. Frank Coyle & Scouts Inc. have him as the 7th rated TE on their boards.
Fauria had 10 receptions in the redzone that went for 9TD this year, I really would love us to draft him along with Steadman Bailey with both our 2nd round picks
I like Fauria - great body; great hands; great Red Zone target. My question is his speed and ability to get open against NFL players. But, he could be a great target for Tanny.
I would gladly take Stedman Bailey with our late second, and take Fauria with our early third. Damn, that'd be nice.
Where I get concerned about Fauria is catching balls below his shoulder pads and inside the frame of his body. Those long arms give him trouble catching in close to his body. Also, like many TEs, could use more leg power and drive block better... but in our zone blocking system how much will that be a factor? Anyways, he'd be a nice pickup in the 3rd.
For a guy that should be one of the best red zone threats outside of Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham, I imagine a 3rd round pick is a little understated.
Fair enough. Hypothetically, though, if we take our TE in the 2nd round, that only leaves one other pick in the 2nd. The second round is where the WR value sits, imo. So that forces our hand to go TE and WR in the second round. Which is fine, but I feel like there will be some Safeties to be had there too. I'm fine Going DE in the 1st, WR and TE in the 2nd, Safety or CB in the 3rd if the value is there. Again, I have no clue what the third round looks like yet as I'm only still watching games by the top 50-80 players at positions you can actually get film on. (someone let me know when they start posting draft cutups of o-linemen on YouTube). p.s. - Fauria is nowhere near as powerful a blocker as Gronkowski was. That said, Gronkowski's health questions are the only reason he went in the second, not the first. Fauria has no health question marks, so you are probably right that he will go in the second... maybe shock me and go late first.
Right now if you really want to make an impact on this offense's touchdown scoring capabilities then I think you look at both Stedman Bailey and Joseph Fauria, as I've said before. They're both touchdown kings and touchdowns are how you win in the NFL. Prevent them. Create them. The fact that there's a halfway decent chance you could come out of the 2nd round with both Stedman Bailey AND Joseph Fauria, sounds a little too good to be true. And so, by Draft day, I suspect it won't be possible. But for now everyone is calling Stedman Bailey a 3rd round pick or maybe late 2nd, and they're calling Joseph Fauria the same. And so my mock drafts are going to consistently have Stedman Bailey with our top pick in the 2nd round and Joseph Fauria with the bottom pick in the 2nd round...until I get a sense that I'm not on an island with those two. At #12-13 overall which is where I have a feeling we'll be picking this year (could be wrong), obviously you're looking at the Best Player Available thing. In some post-apocalyptic scenarios (for an apocalypse is what it'll take for this to happen), that could perhaps be Manti Te'o or Bjoern Werner. But I seriously doubt it. It could be Johnathan Banks or Dee Milliner which would make all too much sense (especially Milliner, IMO). The Dolphins lost Vontae Davis of their own choice. They may have found a nickel corner in Dimitri Patterson that they like better than Richard Marshall, but the contract comparisons of the two seem to lend more toward an either-or thought process. Even re-signing Sean Smith, they need to think about that starting spot opposite him. It could be Dion Jordan, Damontre Moore or Zeke Ansah. I imagine Jeff Ireland is feeling pretty good about heeding Mike Sherman's recommendation of Ryan Tannehill. And the recommendation of Jorvorskie Lane hasn't been half-bad either. What if Mike Sherman comes to Jeff Ireland singing Damontre Moore's praises? On the other hand, Dion Jordan is in my estimation a prototypical player that Jeff Ireland would like. But Zeke Ansah could be the guy. I think Kevin Coyle would like him. He's big and has a great frame which would appeal to Jeff Ireland. With Coyle's preference for Jared Odrick at end, I think he's signaling things that are important to him at that spot opposite Cam Wake. Yet, the Dolphins don't appear all that serious about retaining Randy Starks. So whenever you hear them sing of the wisdom of having Odrick at end, take it with a big grain of salt, because if they let Starks go then Odrick is moving inside. Yet that would create holes in the lineup. Jared Odrick's role as end in base packages and interior in nickel packages would open up. Zeke Ansah and Datone Jones seem like two guys that could probably fit that particular hole. I'm not saying this is what I would do but these are the options you'll likely see Miami exploring.
I don't see Ansah as a fit at all. The defense has good players and big boys- what it needs is speed, explosion and playmaking ability. For all the grief that Odrick has received, I see more explosion in his game than Ansah's. I would take Jordan or Moore in a second over Ansah, jmo.
I would love the first 4 rounds to go: 1. Dion Jordan/Ezekial Ansah 2A. Whoever falls maybe Gio Bernard/Phillip Thomas/Matt Elam/Xavier Rhodes/Cooper/Patterson/Hopkins/Barrett Jones 2B. Stedman Bailey 3A. Joseph Fauria 3B. Arthur Brown/Sean Porter/Shayne Skov/Andre Ellington/Joseph Randle 4. Darius Slay/Tyrann Mathieu/Omeregie Uzzi
UCLA's offense as dysfunctional as I've seen it all year, yet you still can't stop the ball from getting to Fauria in the end zone. He's been open all night.
