" to be the kind of team that were gonna be here, you gotta play well at home." Great job posting best record since 08" And he said it all while " oozing competence " as Section would say. Lets hope the fans get behind this guy, buy their season tickets, and give them the support he needs to make a champion, cause if we don't, it only makes it harder on him.
Boy a victory in New England next week with nothing to play for would be quite the springboard for next season.
New England has plenty to play for. Theyre probably playing for the #2 seed, playoff bye, and a home playoff game. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It could be a really good game. The Pats have a ton riding on this game, and I hope we stick it to them.
The Tony Sparano speech would be like "We owe it to our special teams unit to kick more FG's than we've ever kicked before!"
Momentum does not carry over from one season to another. Otherwise, all of those winning Decembers Sparano had would have translated to winning Septembers.
When Tony have a winning December other than 2008? We always collapsed in December under Tony. We were ok under Bowles last year, 2-2 I believe. Nevertheless, I agree that momentum doesn't carry over an offseason to the following year.
I don't necessarily believe this, only because of the unique situation. This win breaking us a 500 team, beating the hardest team in our division at their house to close our season that most thought we wouldnt win a game, then heading into an offseason with that 'do or die playoffs next season hungry' momentum. Now it's obviously not the same momentum week to week from a big win and so on, but i think it's big. for sure, and its all pieces that would be stacked on top of eachother to represent what i would call 'momentum' moving forward in the offseason of power acquisitions. just how i feel
Yep, you're right. Memory failed me on this one. I could have sworn that Sparano had a winning record in December, but he does not.
in 2005, we won 6 straight to finish the season. 2006 we started something like 0-6 Put me in the category of those that doesn't believe momentum carries over into another season
I'll fix it for you "UMMM We owe it to our special teams unit OK to kick more FG's OK than we've ever kicked before!"
I typically would agree 100%, and kind of do, but, I just see this as a little bit different, with the situation at hand if they pulled off this win and got some major weapon upgrades this offseason, I would see the momentum from the last game move into the offseason, and then develop into crazy hype to move forward with and play off of. I mean if everything falls into place like we hope it will (during offseason into next season) you might almost look back at the pats game making us 8-8 as a partial catalyst. A man can dream.
Kind of feel sorry for Cam Cameron and Sporano... They were offered jobs that payed them millions.... Would any of you really turn down a HC job and say that you are not interested??? The only thing that they did wrong, was accept the job without the mindset and skillset that it is entitled to the job...
We've had ample oppurtunities to go into a season hungry, I mean all of the teams over the past two decades should of been hungry as well, they haven't won sh$$... It happened this season again, a team that hadn't won sh$$ got full of themselves and lost their edge. Maybe it's all about the head coach inspiring them, idk, but it sure does piss me off.. Having a poor culture doesn't help.
I don't think I could possibly agree more, and its been the same thing over and over and over, I know. Coming from someone who predicted a 3 win season, I'd just imagine closing out 8-8 AT the pats would just be un-****in-believable in my book. Its obvious Philbin wants to change the culture, Thank god. hopefully we get some legit momentum and crazy realistic-hype this offseaon and pull off some kinda saints-esque blowing out of the water season.
A victory would mean little next week. And it is possible the Pats will shut it down. First, Houston plays early against the Colts (who also have nothing to play for - they are in the playoffs; they can't improve their situation in any meaningful way - and will be playing the following week. Rest is key for them). It's likely Houston, playing for home field and a bye, will go all out. Second, the Broncos, who play simultaneously, will be at KC. If they put that game away early the Pats won't take a big risk, imo. The odds of the Pats getting a 1st round bye are slim. But, ultimately, momentum does not carry over. It will all be about Tannehill's development in the off-season and whether he really has it in him to be an NFL QB - along with an improved receiving core and OL play. That will all come in the off-season.
Although everything else is trivial at best, I highly disagree and think this is a very big game for this team. We lost to the jets and blew them out in a comedic defensive/special teams showing in game two. Got embarassed by the bills and spanked em in game two. Lost to the pats and ???? (especially considering it was a 1 score game and they are the pats.) I think this game would be very big if it was pulled off. ESPECIALLY in NE. This is going to further prove how decent philbin has been at his game 'adjustments', atleast somewhat, which was spoken of as his 'forte' by many people coming into this. and I just flat out think this is a very important game for the team, the moral, and the staff. even the VERY bottom line 8-8 looks a helluva lot better than 7-9. I wont argue whether or not momentum will carry over next season, its pretty silly and it probably won't, but the game itself is pretty big in my eyes, and i'll watch it as such
Their not gonna be at the best unless a win gets them a home game...I don't see them emotionally investing..
If NE wins and either DEN or HOU lose, they get the number 2 seed. If DEN and HOU lose then NE would get the number 1 seed if they beat us. If we beat NE the best they can get, period, is the number 3 seed. I think they will be coming to play. Also, if BAL wins and we beat NE and that puts them at the number 4 seed regardless of the DEN and HOU outcomes. EDIT: I also forgot that our game got moved to the 4:25 but DEN also has a 4:25 games so NE won't know the outcome of that one. IMO they will be bringing their A game.
those are good points, but I'm just not sure any team can be at their emotional best when they know their in..
Playing a rival is usually up there. I know it was for me, records didn't matter when I was on the field vs another school I despised.
